A strange situation but as far as I'm aware Wigtown were advised that, although Colin Stitt failed to appear, a replacement had been found and was on his way to St Mary's Park. The decision of the Wigtown players and officials to leave may be a costly one. They were away from the ground at 7.30 sharp, infact I believe that one or two of the players had left even earlier.
Whilst it is their prerogative to do so, I'm sure another 5 or 10 minutes wait would not have done anyone any harm. If the game is to be played (although I doubt that will happen) I would've thought that they (Wigtown) would've stayed to alleviate the neccessity of another midweek journey to Kirkcudbright. The cynical view would be the small matter of a televised game on Wednesday night being the reason for the prompt departure from the ground.

I heard that Wigtown left AFTER being told there was a referee on his way and would have been there by 8pm. If they were concerned about getting home late, then it was a cup semi final anyway with the possibility of extra time and penalties. So if the game had been won in 90 minutes it would still have finished at same time as it would have done had it went to extra time !
