Paradise Encore for the People’s Tenor
Tony Hamilton
JOHN Innes, the 'People's Tenor', will perform three tracks live ahead of the UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday evening against Manchester United.
The self-made Edinburgh singer was received to rapturous applause when he appeared pre-match against Hibernian and he's back for the crucial European tie to perform in front of 60,000.
Innes sang to a packed Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday evening, his first live show, after months of bringing opera to the people on the steps of the building.
Through those appearances and events at other stadiums and shopping centres he has raised £5,000 for Save the Children and in particular a project which helps vulnerable kids in Glasgow's East End.
You'll need to be in early at Celtic Park to see him sing 'You Raise Me Up', 'Nessun Dorma' and club anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. He's 'on stage' at 7.15pm on Wednesday night.

It was bloody bad enough before the game against Hibs, but before a Chumpions League game? FFS I know the make-up of our support has changed dramatically over the years but this is ripping the piss.
He’d better shut the feck up when the supporters sing YNWA.
haha "chumpions league", I see what you did there
Will there be a pressure group formed for this?

I thought "The People" went to Ibrox. With the boycotts and all, is this Celtic trying to attract some of them across the city?
"You Raise Me Up" is a shite song.
Why's he chanting that anyway?
Land of My Fathers is a great tune. He could do that for John Hartson.

I'd like to hear him do "I'd Rather Jack" by the Reynolds Girls.

Here's hoping he doesn't make an appearance at the next away Old Firm game. He could be a potent weapon, as I doubt very much whether Rooney & co will find his performance conducive to good concentration levels; nor will they find it entertaining - and I don't bloody blame them

.

fucking hate it when someone comes to sing ynwa. any one on here rememeber a few years back when some 16 year old "singing sensation" came to parkhead on a european night. she was utterly awful at it and completly ruined the song.
I like it over the tannoy when the players are in the tunnel so we can make the opposition team shit themselves before kick off. dunno if that would work with united mind you.

Source?
If United fans had sung it first they'd have spent the last 40-odd years banging on about it and they haven't. The originality of United fans is usually limited to songs about building bonfires.

I've seen him a few times belting out songs on the steps of the Concert Hall. He said 'any requests?' and some guy said 'day the Cornetto song!'

Not my type of music, I thought Celtic fans would be more receptive to their 'folk' songs before a game, not this.

I waited in a line for 10 minutes at the turnstile so I missed him
Is that a bad thing?
