Does anyone know roughly what sort of wages their teams players are on? Top earners, reserve players etc. and whether or not any clubs offer a car as part of a players contract.

It's just to help me with an article I'm doing for the BBC about Gretna FC, remember us smile.gif

We remember you as our most recent feeder club. Morton's wage structure was altered significantly in January so I doubt the current figures are of much use tbh.

Mcguffie is on at least £1000 a week and is one of our highest earners. Cuthbert and Stewart are on less than that.

thats all you're getting from me.

Nonsense, McGuffie is paid in a combination of wheat bushels and Kentucky bourbon, worth approximately £300 a week according to the strength of the pound.
Colin Stewart is paid in Congolese blood diamonds.

Why on earth would you ask people on a website? The next time I see an accurate figure quoted on a messageboard will probably be the first time.

And the accounts won't tell you either.
PTFC27
Probably about £600 a week.
Scott_L
There are a lot of idiots Skyline who will give me ridiculous/wrong figures but equally there's a few in the know and I've already been told some of the figures at Queens by a Queens player. I have a source who's given me figures from Morton and they're scary when you look at their league position.

You CAN buy success, but you can't buy sustainability and self sufficiency. It's time some clubs got out of the clouds and took notice of what happened to Gretna. Sadly we wont be the last club to go that way sad.gif

Darren Young is our highest earner and I estimate that at around £1100-£1200 which is scary considering he doesn't play and isn't injured Colin Cameron must be on about £1000 (still not started a game) and he also got a £10,000 signing on fee. On average our players are on £600-£700 per week with some on no more than £300-£400 per week we don't offer a car as part of a contract - foreign players usually request this sort of thing but I don't think any of our foreigners over the last two years have got a car.

But how would you know the people who are in the know from the idiots?

To be honest I'd be pretty surprised if anyone who genuinely "knows" posted it on a website. I would presume anything you read here is a guess. Some of them might be intelligent guesses but they'll mostly be wrong. If you are going to rely on intelligent guesses then you may as well just guess it yourself. And in reality that would undermine the credibility of anything you could write based on it.

I wouldn't necessarily bet that any player knows for sure what his team mates earn either. They may talk to one another but they won't always be entirely truthful about it.

Another interesting point is how much sponsership has dropped. How many players in Scotland let alone the first division are still sponsered by sports companies?? And do they make any money out of it or just get free stuff?

Innes is our clubs top earner allegedly on between 1500 and 2000 per week.

Livi have a 7 million pound sponsorship deal with Brylcream, Pizza Express and extremely poor lawyers.

Allegedly.

You're right about Innes, £1500 p/w as he did at Gretna although he got a Jeep worth £30K with us. Do you know what happened to the car he had from Gretna as I heard a story that he wouldn't give it back after his contract was cancelled. What are his wheels these days?

I didn't see Craig's goal wink.gif

And I know exactly why he was let go. He isn't good enough for the SPL, as you may find out next season biggrin.gif

Young player, still improving. If he is part of the side that wins promotion this season, he'll be fine next year I'm sure.

Liam Craig sinks the Pars (01:25)

I can only imagine that's the sort of thing John Stewart does in training every day!

I had forgotten all about him actually. Don't think he will be seen in public again in a Falkirk shirt.

Still, at least getting half the Stewart fee back for Craig was a Brucie bonus. Minimises that particular f**k up.

He must only have another five years on his contract too! He'll be an Albion Rovers player by 2013!

Whilst I can accept there is a step up to the SPL, I'm not buying the notion that guys like Craig can't succeed when duds like Steven McGarry turn out for their clubs on a regular basis.

Depends how you use him I suppose. He just didn't fit into our style of play.

I'll give you number 4, and number 2 is perhaps arguably true, but I don't think his mum would tell you he is a good passer of the ball or creative.

Have to say I think he passes the ball well enough. Not going to make telling through passes so not sure I'd agree with Kyle's assessment that he's creative but in the left of midfield, he offers good balance to the midfield. Protects the full back, works hard, can find a teammate and offers a goal threat.

I'm not sold in his abilities as a full back though. Last Saturday was the first time he was tested (by Harper) and I don't think he blocked a cross all day. Saw when he moved into midfield how much more comfortable he is there.

Yes, he is definitely a worker, and will always do a job defensively. He never really looked comfortable in our midfield as we have the ball a lot and rely on a lot of one touch stuff, rather than playing the ball into channels.

Hughes clearly didn't fancy him from quite early on, for whatever reason. Few, if any, of the players we have let go have come back to haunt us so far, so I am happy enough with that.

As I said in a Liam Craig post, Id thought we had just let him go for nothing and Id had no complaints in doing so, yes a goal threat, yes committed....but positional sense and passing let him down in the SPL.

Ive also seen some donkeys score wonder goals, not saying Craig is a donkey....he is a trier tho....

On to topic, some of the wages quoted here if true are crazy. Not in the knowledge of our wages but I would be surprised if many of our players were topping some of figures quoted, Lovell I reckon will be our highest earner but I reckon there will be a big step down from his wage under some of the £1500 or so quoted in the post. All I can think is that the 1st div needs another promotion place or there will be another Gretna/Airdrie mk2 around the corner, in which I think there should be for the sake of both the SPL and 1st div

edit to add.....downloaded Craig goal, decent , but would be surprised if it was quoted as your best of the season, Mark Treanor scored better goals against us many moons ago for ST J and he was pish......

Falkirk got Treanor at the wrong end of his career. He was a tremendous full back for us in the side that won promotion. I remember when Totten signed him, he was Clydebank's captain and they'd been a Premier Division side whilst we'd been languishing in the Second Division. It was another of those Totten signings that illustrated the club was moving the right direction. Treanor has a good claim to being our best left back in the past 25 years. I remember the goal he scored against Falkirk having come off the bench in the Premier Division. I think we won that won 3-2 a season after the more famous 3-2 game where Stainrod scored from something fancy like 20 yards!

Going back to HB's point, I'd have thought a front pairing of Higdon and Lovell was made for quick service on occasion? I can see why Craig wasn't comfortable in the Falkirk midfield but at the same time, that doesn't make him a bad player.
