Seriously? If you are a naturalised citizen you are surely eligible to play for that country? I think you are being deliberately obtuse because Nacho Novo is involved.

I just saw it as on one hand urging fans to respect one man's decision to play for a country he wasn't born in, doesn't live and works in or has direct connection to through parentage...and at the same time giving his opinion that he doesn't want to see someone similar ( minus the Grandparent cop out) play for Scotland despite them having lived here 8 years.

I agree with you.
Peat said that he thought it should be limited to the grandparents and parents, and should exclude naturalised citizens.
Novo would be a naturalised citizen, while McCarthy qualified through his grandparents.
And Fëanáro, I believe Burtons might do a range of retro Scotland tops

Peat's wrong then. The notion that a grandparent makes you more linked with a country than actually living and working there is ludicrous.

To be honest, there is a whole dictionary of insults that wouldn't do it justice.

Well that would be the end of the roi national team.
Essentially what I do on these matters is to find out what George Peat thinks, and then assume the opposite to be correct. He's a walking, talking Daily Retard in that respect.
I don't think he would have a legal case to suggest a naturalised citizen does not have the same rights as someone naturalised by birthplace.

In some cases, but it's surely dependent on circumstances. It's globally accepted* that national identity can extend way beyond where a person is born and brought up.
On the thread though, Peat should just shut up.
