Clach today reached the Scottish Cup 3rd round for the first time in what must be ages. Out of curiosity, does anybody know when the Merkinchers last achieved this?

Did they not get there about seven years ago and lose to Stranraer?

Also a different style of cup so it's hard to compare to 2006-07 and before.

Anyway to answer your qq, my records go back to 1981 and they've not done it in that time. The Stranraer games were R1 and R2.

I went to Clach's cup tie last season against Edinburgh City along with P&Ber Caleyking and the moderator of the Caley Nostalgia website Mantis.

It was the worst game I have ever seen.

Their cup tie today was excellent. Suppose though as cmontheloknow says reaching the Third Round thesedays isnt the same as in the old format under which Clach would have needed to qualify for the Cup proper first then win 1 or 2 matches to reach this stage. I like the new format though, makes the cup much more interesting.

I found 1974-75

Rd 1 - Clach 8-1 Gala Fairydean
Rd 2 - Clach 4-3 Stirling Albion
Rd 3 - Dumbarton 2-1 Clach

That is in effect at least one and possibly two rounds further than they are at the moment though.

Personally I'd consider the new 4th round to be the equivalent of the old 3rd round as that's when the biggest sides come in. I accept the earlier rounds don't run to format but I think that fits. The 1st round now has no SFL sides in it so equates to a qualifying cup tourney in effect. So for me the new 2nd and 3rd rounds are the equivalent of the old 1st and 2nd rounds, thoguh certainly I'd accept new 3rd round is stronger than old 2nd round as it contains six first division sides.

Clach have done no more so far than they did in 75 by beating Gala to reach the second round.

True, and that was the last truly great Clach side, including a certain Peter Corbett, who was soon to defect to Caley, and achieve great things.

The cup tie today was really entertaining, and rumour has it Polworth and Skinner have really organised the Clach training regime. Interesting times.

Clach got to the third round in each of the following seasons (links to the Scottish Football Archive site):

During the years when the Qualifying Cup wasn't played, Clach reached the 4th Round twice and the 3rd Round once:

The second round of the Scottish Cup season 74-75 saw all three Inverness Clubs play in the Highland Capital on the same day. As Clach were claiming Stirling Albions scalp at Grant Street, little more than half a mile away, Caley were dealing out a football lesson to the Jags as two Johnny Wood goals saw them progress to the next round. Combined attendances at these matches was over 4000, just a wee bit more than ICT gets for most matches, oh and Inverness had little more than half the population it now has.

You could have gone here (http://scottishfootballarchive.co.uk/clubs...din/history/cup) and seen this...

I need to improve these pages, always open for ideas - they are linked off the main club pages, so work for all teams.

I use your site a lot but there are a fair few errors though Degsy when it comes to the Scottish Cup, particularly early on.

One result I noticed was 1880-81 Scottish Cup 6th Round - Queen's Park beat Campsie Central 10-1 but you have it as 10-0 to CC.

The data is completely editable by anybody who wants to, I bought most of the data in Excel format from 442data (who went bust about a year later), I've been spending time opening up access to the site so that it can be improved - in a wikipedia style, but not many people take me up on the offer.

I've also recently got lineup data from footballdatabase.eu, which I'm checking through and have tried to make it easy for people to assist there too.

I have many Excel spreadsheets of data, and many, many books - but the data is only as good as the people putting it in - I need people to check and help out too, so pointing out any errors would be great.

Would love to have people helping, trying to make the site as "easy" as wikipedia to edit for those who wish to, and for those like yourself who can really help out.

Timewise, ideally it's that simple to use that you can use it in whenever and it doesn't feel time consuming, message me via the site and I can send you my email and we can talk more?
