As much negative talk dundee fans are giving. Well done Rae on your last 2 seasons. Enjoy your career.

I suppose the question is how much do Dundee want Chisholm and does he want to go?
He signed a new contract in August so compensation will be needed.

Finances maybe? Billy Stark was effectively forced to take Billy Kirkwood as his assistant when we punted Clark, despite being probably as equally culpable as the manager.

They've got nae money. What sort of comp are they gonna offer. A copy of last nights Tully, two jars of finest Robertsons strawberry jam, a couple of complimentary tickets to the Discovery and a bag of out of date jute.Maybe the fans will have a whip roond and you can add half a pound of low grade heroin......

If true, which it seems, I would like to say a massive thanks to Alex Rae for the work he has put into the job. His record speaks for itself, barring this season, after taking us from the shambles of Kernaghan to championship contenders. We would have won the league last season with the points tally we accumulated, had it been any other season. Well done Alex, and good-luck for the rest of your career. You've did a very good job in what was an extremely difficult job. Thanks. wink.gif

We shouldn't mock them at this time. They may well get a manager who does the bizz and they will then rip the piss out of us for the rest of the season.

I don't follow you there, Muggy? Hibs won the league with 89 points for example, so you wouldn't have won it that season either. I'm probably misunderstanding your point.

I think Alex Rae did ok with Dundee. He inherited some good players (McDonald, Robertson, Dixon) but got more out of the some of the existing squad like Swankie and a lot of his early signings (MacKenzie, McHale etc...) were excellent and even since then he's added good players on occasion (Malone, Antoine-Curier) but there seemed to be questions over his tactics and he made IMO more than his fair share of poor signings, which didn't help considering he lost so many players over his reign as well.

Exactly what part of that is "bollox". The part that we need to get behind Farrell for the weekend, why wouldn't we? Most fans will be relieved to see Rae leave, he lost the backing of the fans and the manager and it's time to move on. You can't argue with last season leading us to the brink of an SPL comeback but the club cannot be maintained in the first division. I'm sick of hearing the excuse that we're "only six points off the top" when more worryingly we're only three points off the bottom.

Why hold onto a manager who can't lead his team to a win in nine games....to go and be beaten again by a lesser team?

He means "bollox" because we're playing Morton on Saturday and generally speaking, caretaker managers often get a reaction from the players and win their first match. - he wasn't having a dig at your post laugh.gif

We're Dundee supporters, we're due to NO reaction but the players now need to show what they're worth and prove themselves.

Rae had a tough job on his hands this season really, trying to replace talent like Robertson and MacDonald. Still, he has departed a side only six points behind the league leaders despite the poor form suffered.

Goes to show the difference in mentality between those associated with Dundee and those with Saints. We watched some pretty inept performances as well as crushing defeats - Thistle 4-0 Saints, Saints 0-3 Dunfermline, Saints 2-3 Clyde. Derek McInnes remains and things have started to improve.

Don't think our situation was nearly as bad to be honest. We suffered three bad defeats and performances on the bounce but from our 13 matches this season, that's really the only times we've been well off the pace. Dundee are currently 1 win in 9 games and even that was against the side at the bottom of the league. I also think our defensive problems were always something that could be worked on with the players already at the club but how do you solve the problem of only 4 goals in 9 games when you have a total lack of creativity in the side?

For all I said Rae did well over the piece, I think if we were on a similar run, McInnes would be under the same level of pressure that Rae has found placed on him.
Captain_Sensible
Dundee are only 6 points off top spot. Had Dundee won on Saturday they would only have been 3 points of top spot.

To sack the manager is incredibly stupid. This is an utterly ridiculous decision.

I doubt it. It will be to confirm Rae's departure. I wouldn't say no to a certain Chisolm, however, but if it meant lots of cash, then no.

This will probably come back and bite me on the arse, but I have a feeling, Mr Bennett is rekindling his desire to take over the club. Why would we sack a manager, with no money to pay him off or bring in another manager.

This press conference may provide yet another orgasmic climax. ph34r.gif

I think Dundee's poor form is slightly more understandable than ours was though. Bar the left back position, we only really strengthened an already good squad in the summer. So when we started to play poorly, there was always a belief that we had the players in all positions to eventually pulls us out of the mess we were in. They lost the players that arguably made their team and couldn't replace them. You could argue that has to lie at the door of Alex Rae but how do you replace players like that?
Radford
QUOTE (Captain_Sensible @ Oct 20 2008, 20:59) *

As I've pointed out in other threads, they are in eighth position though and are 6 points behind three teams. In a ten team league, there is always the likelihood that any week Dundee drop points, at least one of those three sides will pull away from them. 6 points is nothing if you are in second or third position but it's a much bigger gap than it seems when there are seven teams above you.

QUOTE (SaintSam @ Oct 20 2008, 21:07) *

You at least need to bring in the right type of player. Rae clearly identified some good players (Snodgrass etc...) in the summer but whilst he was faffing around being unrealistic, other teams were snapping up the good players. McDonald and Robertson were about drive and energy yet Rae made no attempt to bring in players in that mould, instead opting for Young and Cameron, which was always going to mean a change in style, something that carries a big risk and can take time to get right. He got things badly wrong this summer, no matter how unfortunate he was so lose so many players.
