The Daily Hun is laying into Burley and getting right behind Boyd. Surprise that. What a joke.

Absolute certainty. Only think surer was that if McLeish had still been in charge it would have been spun the other way round.

Not that Boyd would have treated an ex-Hun in the same manner.

I'm not a fan of the Daily Record and I loathe the Old Firm teams to an extent which is frankly unhealthy.

However, I couldn't agree more with everything Darryl King has said.

"Let's be clear on this: No player is bigger than the Scotland jersey "

"But, as Boyd proved with his decision yesterday to quit the Scotland set-up whilst Burley is manager, there are lines that can't be crossed, moments when national commitment becomes secondary to personal peace of mind."

Which is it Darryl? How clear can you make it that you think some players are bigger than the jersey?

McFadden, like Boyd, would be a loss. The other two, whoop-de-do.

Is it worth pointing out that Boyd can't quit? If Burley wants to call him up for the next squad he can, and if Boyd refuses to turn up and/or play, he would be suspended from all football. This may seem a freakish rule to you, but it has been used before, most high profile example being Makalele of France.

Not sure that is correct mate, I stand to be proved wrong though.

I'm not suggesting it's in any way a conceivable scenario - just pointing out that you cannot 'retire' unilaterally. This is accepted widely on the continent, where you find players far more likely to 'ask not to be selected in future'. Of course, that's a bit easier when they're regarded as faithful servants of the nation who are getting on a bit wink.gif ... nevertheless, my point stands: Boyd can't just 'retire'...

Would be amusing if Burley enforced this, just to piss Boyd off.

We could arrange a B international away to Azerbaijan on a freezing midweek in the middle of February, expressly for this purpose. Bring Boyd on in 88th minute... sub him for Dougie Freedman in the 89th...

The thought actually did occur o me before you posted that a player can't just retire, though obviously there really is little point in enforcing this.

Of course, with Gordon Smith in charge, who "knows the score" a Rangers player would never been confronted in this way.

No player should be anyway, a 2 match suspension for refusing a call up means the International manager has signed his own P45.

In fact, do it Burley laugh.gif
