After seeing Chris Iwelumo make his Scotland debut, I was just wondering if there are any other black footballers that were born in this country.

I think one of the members of the first Scotland team was black, or maybe I dreamed that?

Andrew Watson. He wasnt born in Scotland though and neither was Nigel Quashie so Im thinking Iwelumo was maybe the first Scottish born black player to represent the national team. Hopefully he gets another chance to prove himself, did ok overall except that rather unfortunate sitter .

Kevin Harper is obviously another black Scottish player but he never got a full cap.

I'm sure Iwelumo is the 3rd. I remember someone on TV sayin Quashie was the 2nd but no idea who the 1st was.

Scotland's 'ethnic minorities' will probably produce world-class cricketers before they produce world-class footballers.

I had a conversation about this with a mate at work who is from Cameroon. We both came to the conclusion that the reason is that there just aren't that many black people in scotland. The number is definitely increasing and I think in about 10-15 years there will probably be at least a couple of black players in the scotland team. IMHO this will be a very good development. Scotland really lack both pace and power and black players (not all i might add) tend to have more of both (yes I know that is a bit of a generalisation but it's also fairly accurate).

Yeah it certainly seemed to give us a more modern look if you like , if thats the right way to say it. I was impressed with Iwelumo apart from the miss , he was very strong and had alot of pace for a big fellow , reminded me of Carew to be honest.

Wasn't there a documentary on the BBC about a year back about Scotlands first black footballer to be capped?

Kevin Harper was born in England but raised in Edinburgh.

Black Scottish-born footballers include Chris Mackie (ex Alloa), Malcolm Kpedekpo (ex Aberdeen), Chris Ogboke (ex Montrose). Callum McRobbie of Aberdeen's U19s could be mixed race?

Cowdenbeath's Joe Mbu has played for Junior Scotland but he was born in London as far as I know. Gordon Lennon of Dumbarton was born in Northern Ireland but I've no idea how long he's been over here - he joined Albion Rovers from Govan juvenile side Harmony Row.

There are a few other black players in the non-leagues such as Dan Gerrard and Max Asante but I don't know if they were born in Scotland either. I think Arniston's Ubong Umatong came up from England and I've no idea where Albion Rovers signed Abou Mansare from - he's now at St Anthony's. East Craigie have a black forward called Josh Perera.

Not born in Scotland though, British Guyana.

He was from Guinea - born in Conakry - and was studying in Scotland. Rovers signed him from a juvenile side; possibly St Peters in Paisley, but I can't be 100% certain. My memory is a bit hazy.
Abou missed half the season until his passport was sorted, and only made a couple of appearances from the bench, which was a shame as he looked very impressive in the pre-season friendlies.

The Scotsman at the time claimed he was a Guinean international. He wasn't - though I can't envisage a scarier or more physically intimidating centre-half pairing than Abou and Bobo Balde.

I'm 99% sure that he's english.
Ex-Dundee Utd (not sure where he is now) player Danier Ogunmade went to school in Coatbridge. Not sure where he was born though.

Danny Ogunmade was born in Glasgow and to confirm the Lanarkshire connection,briefly played Junior with Bellshill in 2004-05.

Vic Kasule was born in Glasgow on 28/5/65, joining Albion Rovers during the 82-83 season from Motherwell Miners Ams.
