If the SFA decided to get rid of Burley. Who else do you think would be in the mix to replace him?
The_Num
Same old names it always is - Souness, Dalglish, Ferguson.

2 of whom don't want the job (far as I last heard anyway) and 1 who I wouldn't give the job to, altho I'm starting to wonder. What we have to remember though is the the SFA would first of all have to pay off Burley's contract then stump up a decent wage to attract a decent calibre manager so it aint gonna happen.

We're stuck with Burley for at least the next 18 months so we may as well get used to it.

yup. probably too expensive to sack him.....of course if he was given no choice but to resign that wouldn't be an issue........

I'd do it for £20,000 a year. laugh.gif

Unfortunately it would be the xact same situation it was with Vogts - too expensive to sack him (unless he really does like a tipple in which case it would be possible to fabricate a misconduct dismissal!) and he won't resign because he thinks he's doing a good job.

Someone said to me last night that yesterday will be acceptable as long as Burley learns from his mistakes. Unfortunately to do that he would have to acknowledge he'd made mistakes, and I don't believe he thinks he's made any.

Spot on. The guy thought we were "outstanding in Macedonia"; "tremendous in Iceland"; and I've not heard one thing coming out his mouth that he got his tactics and formation wrong yesterday. Yet I've not heard anybody saying he got it right yesterday...

edit - spelling.

Souness or George Graham for me. Burley is way out of his depth and he certainly doesn't inspire confidence with drivel he spouts after every game. It's high time him and Gordon Smith were given the boot.

Ferguson? Alex Ferguson??? Can't say I've ever heard of him being seriously touted as a candidate, but it actually might not be the worst shout ever. Surely he will be looking to retire from Man U soon, and what better way to ease into full retirement than a few years as Scotland boss? Some might say we don't want someone who's easing into retirement, but would they really turn their nose up at Alex Ferguson?

Souness. At international level you need someone who commands respect as you have to be able to deal with the prima donnas. Burley doesn't do this, Souness certainly would.

Steve Staunton, the man is a genuis..he makes people really believe he is a football coach and manager, when he is no better a coach or manager than the local toilet attendant.
Give him a go I say, at least the Scottish fans (fecking hate Tartan Army shite) will see what a really bad manager is like, he makes Vogts look good! ohmy.gif
Seriously, I would think Jim Jeffries is a manager who could make Scotland a better team to watch and get results, he would also get the respect of the players. He is media friendly and appears to be respected in football circles.

Souness

souness should have got it in the first place. yes, his record is far from brilliant, but he will motivate the players. I fear Burley is losing the dressing room already but he deserves more than 3 competative games to prove himself, even if it does cost us a place in 2010.
BadgersNadgers
I don't know if Souness will talk to the SFA after he was overlooked the last time. I hope we don't get stuck with him as he is a fanny but there is a lack of other candidates. Did Nigeria sack Berti yet?
Roscoe
First off, I don't reckon Burley is going anywhere just yet. But it looks like he's losing the dressing room and if that carries on then he's gone.

Its not been a seamless takeover for Burley (unlike McLeish from Smith) as he is trying to implement a more attacking style of play. Unfortunately for him it's at a time where Scotland expects more having gone so close in the Euro qualifiers. With expectations so high, there just isn't the tolerance for new systems.

He deserves more time but I don't think the media will afford him that, which is unfortunate.

Worth a shout I reckon.

It's not so much that he's seriously considered as a candidate so much as whenever the Scotland job is mentioned he's always high on the wishlist of a lot of supporters.

Souness worries me TBH. You say he will motivate players but did he not have problems with that at Newcastle and Blackburn? He also walked out on both.

For me, not a good Scottish manager available.

Jim Jeffries isn't the worst shout however.

Out of the choices I'd go for McGhee or Yogi.

Souness is a loose cannon, if mild mannered Burley can lose Boyd & McFadden, how many would quit under Souness?

Johnny van Axeldongen
I wonder if wee Broon has dusted off his old Scotland sweatshirt and trackie bottoms yet? Checking himself out in the mirror whilst giving an imaginary interview to Chick Young........sneaky wee b*****d!

get this pished moved to the bedwetters thread!
BadgersNadgers
Mark McGhee has got a decent gig at Motherwell, I wonder whether he'd be keen to put himself at the mercy of the boo boys in the media and internet.
Jamie Stewart
I think if Burley goes scotland should appoint David Moyes as the next Scotland Manager
IXI THE ONE IXI
I'm sure Moyes wants to renege on his £17 million pound, 5 year contract at Everton to manage that gash International team. wink.gif
doulikefish
i think the mass hysteria over burley is laughable!!
smith and mcliesh both had shit starts yet no-one was calling for there heid after 3 competetive games in charge
north_west_L52
Id have Mark McGhee in a second! Always said since Volts left i wanted him
