The ghost of Jim Morton
An update for any Saints fans not on WAP regarding the march of the massive St.Johnstone army on Dunfermlines Eastend Park a week next Saturday. The 208 have put on extra buses and the cost has been pegged at £6. For details check out the 208 page on WAP.Buses also running from Muirton Park travel club & Kinnears in Scone. The Edinburgh Saintees are using the train( Times and details on the Edinburgh Saints thread on WAP).Also a contingent of Saintees going from Perth on the choo-choo, led by the train spotter SLF. Many more travelling through by car and we are trying to get someone with a tractor to drive through in response to a comment on DAFC.NET. Most ridiculous comment came from LOYALPAR who claims we will only bring 300 maximum.Well lets show him and anyother doubters how wrong they are.
Dunfermline F.C. have also assisted by dropping the prices for the match. More detail will be available in the match programme for the Partick game on the 25th.The P.A. is also promoting the day in the paper. So lets all get of our arses on the 1st and lets get all our saintees friends off their arses and make it an amazing blue and white day out.

See you all there......Come on you saints wink.gif

It's not what you said, it's the way you said it!!! mad.gif crying.gif

Seriously though, the ratio to posts on the topic to farmer jokes is possibly the highest ever recorded! As a few folk have already said on WAP, it might actually spur a few more folk into coming to show the pars fans we can travel in numbers, which in turn is more money in Dunfermline's pocket if a few more Saintees do turn up. Everyone's a winner baby!

Why the hell not just encourage this so-called blue and white army of ours to jam-pack McDiarmid instead? I for one would rather see the extra revenue generated from this gimmick invested back into the club.

I always find it funny when a club with a massive support gets smashed.

I for one hope this is such an occasion

Frankly you Savo are getting to be a miserable c unt.Trying to encourage bigger crowds at McD is an ongoing thing but everybody enjoys an away day.If we can get a good few at this game who don't always go to McD and we perform well they may start attending more home matches as well. What everyou think about this GIMMICK, it,s being done by Saints fans for Saints fans. So if you aint got anything positive to say on the matter then you would maybe be best to shut the f**k up. mad.gif

I expect them to have a decent number, as they have had a few decent crowds with them at EEP for certain games in the last 15 years. They also had what looked like the biggest away support last season at East End the first time they were down (something that I predicted before the start of last season, to be told by a Queen of the South fan that that showed that I knew nothing about the first division). 1000 to 1200 would be pretty decent going, but with the extra money that would bring obviously I'd be quite happy if there was even more than that.

Well done to those trying to organise this - I'm sure it takes a bit of time, and hopefully it works out well for you in every way apart from the result.

Was there ever an official count on the Livi fans that went to EEP? That must have been your highest so far, right?

It probably was the highest away support so far considering we have yet to play Dundee, Partick and St Johnstone at home.

Thanks for your positive comments. smile.gif Maybe if this does work your guys could organise something similar for the 24th of January next year at McD. There's nothing better at a game than a great atmosphere. Plenty noise just adds to the excitement.

Its a win-win for everyone involved. A better atmosphere will be created, and we will gain some extra money from it.

You're right, Ghost, there is nothing better at a game than a great atmosphere. The thing is, if we've got to feel the need to try and get everyone to turn up and create one then something is lost in the process. I've stood in some crowds of Saints' fans in the past that I won't forget - hundreds of like-minded souls turning up and it just happened. You knew there was going to be a great atmosphere from the minute you tied your Saintees scarf around your neck on a Saturday morning, be it a juicy fixture against our rivals (whoever they might be at the time) or a cup/relegation/promotion match. If you get all the ingredients then a great atmosphere will happen on its own. A manufactured one will never be the same. Sorry to be an old misery guts.

I totally agree with what your saying.
I think what's being touted here though, is trying to get more people to regularly come out and give their support. We have to start somewhere and if we can pick up another 200 or so lapsed or new Saints fans who will start to go to most or all of our matches on the back of this campaign then surely it's a great idea.( plus of course the added financial bonus to the club)
At the moment our crowds are piss poor and anything that can get them has got to be good.
SaintSam
It's a nice sentiment but I think it should've been directed towards a home game as all we are doing is putting money into another club. I think we took decent crowds to EEP last season anyway. I don't see the point of posting this on P and B either to be honest, especially if you are not willing to accept any opinions that differ to your own.

To be fair, the saintees never bring hoards to Palmerston because of the distance involved.

Shows the state of the saintee's away support when individual fans are trying to drum up a big away support. The only thing that will encourage the Perth fans to travel in big numbers is a decent attractive team competing at the top of the league surely?

I'm not the person incapable of having a reasoned debate with people without resorting to insults and swearing. That is the real sign of someone lacking in intelligence, Ghost. There's no getting away from the fact that this should have been aimed towards getting people to our home ground so that they put their money into St.Johnstone F.C, therefore a home tie should've been the obvious choice. The idea is good and well done to the man at the head of it. However, it should've been geared towards a home game and it's not going to get 200 or so lapsed fans going to all or most of our games for the remainder of the season. Only a winning side will bring new fans and those who have lost interest back to the stands.

Agreed - this whole awayday thing seems to have come out of a a bit of cock-waving on t'internet. It might bring out a few chavs who like an away day with their mates and loads of drink together with the chance to shout insults at home fans though. The old football tribal thing. I'd have thought that such an away day would have been better aimed at your next trip to Dens Park? ph34r.gif

i genuinley dont understand the negative comments to this. what the hell is wrong with some fans trying to organise an "away" day.

fair enough try to raise crowds at home, but as ghostie has said that is more of a ongoing thing.

if anyone who supports say, partick thistle or say, livignston is saying things about this day. then perhaps they are just jealous that we can actually bring a decent support to matches wink.giftongue.gifcool.gif

As I said, it's a nice sentiment and I'm sure everyone will enjoy the day. Even more so if the team performs well and we win. It's not negativity as such, it's merely a valid point being raised about the choice of game. Such a concerted effort to boost numbers would've been more beneficial to Saints if it had been aimed towards a game at our home ground. That is the place we need people to become familiar with. Don't confuse a constructive point with opposition to the idea.

I predict a turnout like any other. I also predict that a good six or seven supporters will waste a great deal of time promoting what will inevitably turn out to be a non-event. Even if you do manage to get an extra hundred or even thousand on top of what was expected, what have you actually achieved? What, you expect these folk to come back every week, do you?

What's worse, the people promoting this gimmick appear hellbent on chastising any fan who dares highlight the flaws in their grand masterplan. I'm all for getting a few more heads through the door, but to anyone who thinks this is the kind of solution that will bring long term benefits, you are off yer rocker.

TBH I'd guess we would be about that same in what we'd take to the away games despite you having 10 times the catchment area.
sandboy
If Saints lose their next 2 league games they'll bring maybe 500 to EEP. If they win their next 2 league games they might have 1000 or so. This campaign thing is a nice idea but in reality it's results that will really determine how big the away crowd is on 1st Nov.

Dunfermline won't dominate us like that again. We were going through a very poor run of form that we've come out the other side of. We are much improved.
