I'll admit it's hardly set the heather on fire with me either, but at least it means some cash going to the (allegedly) dwindling SFA coffers. You should be more worried about is what it'll be called next season and the season after - the Scottish Government deal to name it 'after key government policies and campaigns' last for three years. Any takers for the "Alcohol Mis-Use in Scotland Act Trophy"

??

The big annojncement is at Hampden tomorrow but as well as Alex Salmond, Willie Haughey is going to be there. My guess is "The City Refridgeration Homecoming Scottish Cup"

""I think the Scottish Cup is the best club competition in the world......."

"Everybody interested in Scotland wants to know what's happening in the Scottish Cup...."

Whatever the hell it's called this is the weekend where it gets interesting for me as we will be in the draw for the next round on saturday.
I love going to new grounds and playing against so-called minnows so would love something like Lochee United away if they beat Buckie.

This man is a plum, if that were the case then how come the media coverage of the draw at Lochee a few weeks ago was virtually non-existent? Nothing on SKY or BBC TV & Radio until the following day.

In fairness, there's virtually no coverage of the FA Cup draw until the big sides come in either. The very fact the draw was made in a little clubhouse at Lochee underlines that it was never going to interest the media much. I think people foam at the month about that too much.

, That must be a severe case of PMT!!
Seriously though, the early rounds of the greatest cup competition in the world(© English F.A.) are usually very well covered in England. This should also be the case up here, a wee bit of coverage would do no harm.

That depends how you define "the early rounds".
Yes, the 1st round proper onwards get national coverage but in reality, given the size of Scotland compared to England, that equates to the 3rd round here (which I accept is under-covered by the press). The 1st and 2nd rounds of the Scottish Cup really equate to qualifying rounds of the FA Cup and there's no tv and precious little print media coverage of that.

Oct 23 2008, 20:19
I don't think the definition of the "early rounds" is debatable to be honest, it is the rounds early in the competition..
Anyway, the media coverage of the Scottish Cup is all a bit shitty, you would think they would at least appear to give a flying f**k. It took until about 7 o'clock to find out the results of the 1st Round when it was played, which is a disgrace.

Right then, if it's not debatable the FA Cup started about three months ago but I bet most national media sources haven't devoted more than an inch to it so far. And I bet you'd have taken longer than 7pm to find the results from the 1st qualifying round.

ITV.com have shown a live game from every qualifying round (including the preliminary rounds) so far. All the results have been up pretty sharpish on most sources as well. Don't think folk are asking for much (re Scottish Cup)...possibly just a highlights show of the 1st/2nd/3rd round action etc
Still, I suppose it's to be expected given that the FA Cup is a 'bigger' competition.

The draw for the 2nd round of the FA Cup is always live on TV.

I didn't know about the first...I just knew the second is always shown because it's made immediately after whatever game is shown live on the Sunday.

The point is, the early rounds of the FA Cup (i.e. those which attract less attention) aren't classed as full rounds for that very reason. They're classed as Preliminary, Qualifying and 'Proper' rounds.
If the SFA, the clubs, and the media aren't prepared to cover attendances/scorers/draws/provide some form of highlights/get FT scores up rapidly in R1 and R2, then they shouldn't be full rounds.
EastFootball
Oct 24 2008, 23:08
But the Scottish Cup has the same number of rounds as its English counterpart, so the respective First/Second/Third rounds are comparable (well, our Fourth round is like their Third round but the general point is the same).
