Im looking into buying a new set up to give me 5.1 Surround Sound in my livingroom.
I recently bought a Panasonic Veira TV and would like the sound to equal the picture quality.

I know very little about Home Cinema systems so was hoping someone could recommend something decent.

Im eventually going to buy a PS3 which Id also like to connect up to it, but in the mean time Im happy watching upscaled DVD until I get round to getting my PS3 (for the Blueray player). So the option to connect up a PS3 would be useful.

I dont want wireless rear speakers as I already have the cables run behind the plasterboard and I dont want to have to run a power cable to rear speakers (I presume thats how theyre powered anyway tongue.gif )I also want small rear speakers (ie- not the long ones on stands) as I'd like to wall mount the rear speakers.

Any help would be appreciated. smile.gif

How much do you want to spend? Ive got the Logitech Z5500 (i think you might have these already), and they sound excellent and work for console/sky HD. £180 and you can use your existing speaker wire.

For about £700, you could get a nice onkyo (best bang for buck reciever), and a KEF 5.1 setup, which is what ill be using when i build my home cinema after xmas (garage converted, projector onto 108" screen).

I bought this for sub £200

Gives a great sound, and you can upgrade the speakers. Heard the Logitech is good too though, but I'm sure the Panasonic have a 'Viera' link with all Panasonic 5.1 surround sounds which makes it easy set up, but if you've bought the Logitech then good luck with it.

Not bad but the colour of it wouldn't suit my livingroom.
I prefer my TV's, DVD players etc to be black.
It would have looked out of place with the other stuff I have.

I'll let everyone know how I get on with the logitech system in case someone is interested. smile.gif

To be honest I hated the horrid silver phase that companies went through a few years ago.
You couldnt get a black TV or DVD player for love nor money.
It looked like what people in the 70's expected our space ships to be made out of.
Tasteless and horrible. Thats really why I dont want it in my livingroom, but I was trying to be polite tongue.gif

Are wireless speakers any good yet?
MattBairn
OK,

So my speaker system arrived today.

I have my PS3 and my Sky HD box hooked up to my TV via HDMI cables.
Would the best thing be to hook up my Speaker system from the Digital Audio Output from the TV?

If so I need to nip into town and get a lead.....

I have my sky HD and dvd player connected direct to the amp via optical audio. But then my tv doesnt have any decent audio outputs.

My thoughts were that the audio would be transmitter to the TV (from the Sky/Playstation) via the HDMI cable and then put through the amp from the DAO on the TV.
In theory it makes sense (to me at least) but Im not sure if it would work in practice.

Sounds like it would work to me.

I always get confused between which one of HDMI and DVI doesnt transmit the sound laugh.gif

I went and got an optical audio lead and connected my 5.1 set up from my TV as planned.

It works perfectly smile.gif

You bought a ps3 then i take it mad.gif

You have 4 inputs on the speakers, optical, digital, headphone, PC. Its a shame it dosent have two opticals like the 5400's have, i have my pc connected via the pc inputs, DVD via digital, and sky via optical.
