Be prepared, if you are coming down from the North on Sat by bus, apparently the Police are having a crack down on drink on the buses. I think it is Grampian and possibly Tayside that are going to be stopping buses and checking coke bottles etc with swabs. Seems they are serious this time and it's not just the usual sound bite the put out from time to time, looks like it will have to be on the soft stuff...

They're all doing it so we've sadly had to write to all our members telling them it's a 100% DRY bus
Luckily we're only 40-50 minutes

Am I right in thinking that the police don't have the right to search the passengers on the bus, only the bus? (Bottles up the kilts)

Police have stop and search powers on any member of the public.

In Scotland they have no general power to stop and search. They can however search your persons if they suspect you have alcohol on you, while traveling to the game on public transport. I suppose it's a case of whether your bus is classed as public transport or its privately hired.

I believe it's illegal to have an open alcoholic drinks container on any bus in Scotland not just football buses and has been like this for at least 20 years, so you can't say you were not warned.
