Hoping someone on here will be able to help me with this problem.

About a week ago I started getting this error message when I logged in to my computer

"This system is shutting down. Shutdown initiated by NT Authority/System
C:\Windows\System 32\services.exe
terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819. The system will now shut down and restart."

Then it has a countdown of 60 seconds before it reboots...which mine doesn't even do. Mine just freezes for about 3minutes or so then it all appears to be normal again, but I cant log off, switch users, or even turn off my computer - it just freezes. Since then I've been running my computer in safe mode, where I don't get the error, and everything works fine.
Any ideas as to why this message has suddenly appeared, and how to get rid of it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, its driving me mental. mad.gif

First thought would be some badly written malware has f*cked your winsock config. Can't say that for sure without seeing the machine mind.

While you are in safe mode, can you run things like AdAware or/and SpyBot, or virus check your system?

Have you installed anything recently that uses networking? P2P app, or the like?

I take it you never 'clicked here' over any "click here to enlarge your penis" adverts.. wink.gif

I've tried so many anti virus programs that I cant remember the name of any of them laugh.gif Some run in safe mode, some don't, some will install in safe mode, some will not. dry.gif The message actually started appearing after I used some program to remove a file called 'xpds.sys', which had been identified as a rootkit by a program called 'Prevx CSI'. Starting to wish I hadn't bothered removing it laugh.gif

I've not installed anything lately apart from anti virus programs, and I've not clicked any dodgy adverts tongue.gif

To stop the machine from rebooting in normal mode, open the CLI by going to [start]>[run] and at the prompt type cmd then press return. Once open, enter shutdown -a. This should disable the shutdown process.

I would then give the main anti virus/malware apps a run again.

The only two references to xpds.sys I could find were..

One of the problems is, that it doesn't reboot when it says it will laugh.gif

But I'll give that a go, managed to get SpyBot running in Safe Mode, so will see what happens with that.

Cheers for the help.

Found 26 problems, fixed them, and its still cunted. Done a system restore - still cunted. Might fork out some cash on just getting a new one, this one's getting on a bit anyway. smile.gif
