Lets face it, they're shite and their fans are a drunken skirt wearing disgrace.

Surely it's time for the NT to go? What purpose does it serve?
I can't watch Ayr United this saturday thanks to this pish. dry.gif

you re just basing that off

1. the newspapers exaggerating their behaviour
2. the fact that is it only a minorty of people that act like this and shouldnt be allowed anywhere near a scotland match.

boo hoo you can watch ayr this week when there are 35 other weekends that you can watch them play

Erm...national teams already do play midweek

Indeed. I get to see Scotland and County this weekend. It's a win win situation... or maybe a lose lose, I'd certainly settle for a win lose though, in fact I'd prefer that over a lose win.

International weekends are in fact often amongst the most varied for club football in Scotland. Last season, on the weekend of the Scotland v Lithuania game (I think...), there were East of Scotland senior matches on Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday 12noon, Saturday 2:30pm, and on Sunday.

Similarly this weekend, people could see 3 or 4 club games if they want, in the one area. Fantastic.

Is there any need for the third and second division clubs not to play. I presume there are no players called up so why not get them to play at noon on the Saturda or maybe on the Sunday. No?

If no games have been cancelled how come the vast majority of SFL clubs are not playing? We should be playing games now instead of December 27th.

Ordinarily if it was just based on players that are involved in international's then yes, but as there are four 1st div teams in the challenge cup semi's on Sunday you can't include them.

Same for the 1st division as well. Its got nothing do do with how many players in your team would make the national side. Its for us fans that want to support our country. I would hate to see Clyde playin the same day as Scotland. As I would miss out on the clyde game which I would not want to do

We'd lose valuable money. Fans like myself would have to pick between Scotland or their club team.. hard choice.

And if it was on Sunday, they'd still lose out on gate money - not everyone can afford to pay £25 plus travel, food and drink to go to a Scotland match then £14 the next day to watch their club.

It's fine as it is.

Im pretty sure fifa and uefa will be happy to re-jig the champions league and uefa cup schedules, and the SFA and EFA re-jig domestic cup schedules to accommodate midweek international fixtures just so those who choose not to follow their country can have their petty way.

Its fine the way it is.

So being part of the majority is petty is it?

In what way, club comes before country for nearly every football fan.

No games were scheduled. Therefore they have cancelled 100% of 0. And as has been previously stated, there wouldn't have been games on anyway - because it is Challenge Cup Semi-Final day.

SFL simply killed 2 birds with 1 stone, by placing the later Challenge Cup rounds on the internationals. Plus there's only 1 midweek round in the entire SFL this season - in March, and for First Division only.

QUOTE (drs @ Oct 8 2008, 10:30) *
We should be playing games now instead of December 27th.

The matches on December 27th may well be some of the highest-earners of the entire season, as people on Christmas holidays or even weekend leave (that wouldn't usually get it) will go. The clubs love festive games, why do you think they play Saturday-Monday or Saturday-Tuesday whenever the dates fit? In England, they are so desperate to do this they are playing Friday-Sunday this year.

And I agree with club coming before country, but that still doesn't get my knickers in a twist over them playing all their games midweek.

Re the club v country thing, whilst I am club first in that if Thistle or Scotland were to cease playing I would easily rather Scotland went down, if Thistle were playing a run of the mill league game at Firhill this Saturday at 3pm I would be at Hampden because of the two events on this individual Saturday the Scotland qualifier would be a bigger one for me, the reverse being the case if it was an international friendly. I suspect a few folk fall into this category.

Often said, get rid of the international game, it only leads to nationalism and violence.
I would always pick my club before my country.
I hate the tartan wearing nobodies at Scotland games, singing Floor of Scholtland, after drinking their usual ten pints, don't tell me it's about supporting Scotland, it ain't, it's really about yet another excuse to go drinking with people! wacko.gif The amount of blokes in their late 30's to late 50's who are in hospital with damaged livers, diabetes, hemophilia, high blood pressure etc, who tell you their main thing in life was watching their football team, especially Scotland is quite staggering. Football was the main excuse, but really it was the drinking that people wanted.
International football breads this kind of shite, especially with regards to violence, any excuse to show how hard your nation is!

Check the attendance at Hampden and check the telly viewing figures and you'll see that Scotland games are only watched by around 15% of the population of Scotland so I'm in the majority of over 80% of the population of Scotland who have something better to do than watch an international.

Well if it really is true that "the majority" of Scottish football fans don't care about the National team then they should be fucking ashamed of themselves. Has nobody else seen the scenes of absolute unbridled joy in other nations when they do well? Does nobody remember the streets of Buenos Aires being mobbed in 1978. Did no-one see Athens 4 years ago? Am I alone in thinking that, far from causing Xenophobia and violence, International football is a chance to welcome people from other nations and to explore foreign cultures?

Besides, when was the last time a Scotland game descended into violence among the supporters? Scotland fans went to Wembley in their droves in 1996 and 1999 and both games passed without major incident. Manchester 2008 anybody?

And if it is true that these people don't care, if Scotland do well and there happens to be any sort of celebration will you all f**k off and leave those of us that DO care to enjoy the moment.

Your dummy is lying on the floor - feel free to pick it up anytime.
I couldn't really give a flying f**k about teams decided (or often, not) by which side of a border they or their grandparents were born. It is as reflective of a nation to me as Tartan Day or any other cheap patriotic tat. I'll be watching the game tomorrow in a pub solely for the objective of getting drunk with mates rather than any support for either side - and I'd much, much rather be at Cappielow or at an unspecified away ground.
You are of course welcome to celebrate when the team you support does well - I'll be finding something more useful to do with my time and my interests.

Reading this crap makes me sad, but I'll add to it anyway.

Club Vs Country is a stupid debate, which we're spared by not having to choose as the games, rather sensibly, don't clash.

As for the idea of international football, I'm a big fan as it's top level football, which has at least some semblence of competition, unlike the club game where the concentration of talent at a small number of clubs renders it all pretty meaningless for me until you look down a level or two. For that reason, International football still carries an air of unpredictability which the Champions' League and the Premier League in England said goodbye to a long time ago - entirely on purpose of course.
