Some fellow on LiviLions said this:

"We owe no money to the Inland Revenue
The situation is the same as what Massone said six weeks ago in regards to creditors.
We owe the money to Blackburn Rovers."

(re: Blackburn Rovers, this is the sell-on money from McNamee to Coventry from 2006)

Apparently the Italians found the club's finances in a worse state that they expected, suggesting that either they are a pack of morons who didn't do their homework, or that Pearse Flynn concealed stuff. I am NOT going to back the latter view, and as the Italians did not take the opportunity to say so, either, I can only suggest that it is the former, and that the current crop of directors are not only incompetent but also extremely stupid. biggrin.gif

Apparently it's the medias fault. Bad day for scottish journalism.
He didn't say they didn't owe the Inland Rev money, just that they were paying regularly...sweep sweep
Side tracked the creditors question sweep sweep
Side tracked the resigning directors question sweep sweep.
Made a downright scandelous comment about outstanding creditors needing to wait 10 years to be paid funny funny sweep sweep
Confirmed we owe blackburn money but that lawyers were going to deal with it...I'd assume they'll get the same "Chase Mr Flynn" letter the rest of us got? sweep sweep

He then stated Livi have NO financial worries and are categorically safe...well...as safe as any other club...

Exactly. I would say around 30-50% of Sequestration are petitioned for by HMRC. They don't wait forever unlike other creditors. You don't mess with HMRC under any circumstances and it is should be the first unsecured debt you pay.

Unless you Leeds in which case you can get away with what you like, really. It helps a bit if you know how to manipulate offshore trusts.

As for Livi, I hope they sort themselves out for the sake of Scottish football generally as well as themselves and their creditors, though to be perfectly honest I can't say I'd miss the cheating b*****ds much.

EDIT: I didn't know that word got censored, must be the first time I've tried to use it on here. How about c**t and f**k?

No doubt some fans laughed at the Meadowbank Thistle fans when Blobby moved their club to Livingston and changed it's name. Thre vast majority of Livingston fans are 'first generation fans'. What comes around and all that...

I won't dance on their grave like Captain Sensible, but would not mourn their passing. File with Gretna FC. Perhaps Livingston 2009 will follow Gretna 2008?

Your first point is just pathetic, no fans deserve their club to go and you of all people should understand that.

Your second point, on the other hand, is ridiculous. Comparing Livi and Gretna is farcical. Livi have brought something to the leagues as a football team and easily have the setup to compete at this level. There debt isn't a million miles away from some other first division clubs either. They have a youth setup bringing through better players than any other in the division bar Dundee too and could certainly teach our respective clubs something in that regard.

The whole Leeds thing really screwed it up for everyone else though. HMRC now have a real grudge against football clubs and are out to get one.

Agreed and I said the exact same about Leeds United. If you go into administration once then you should get a 10 point deduction and a stern warning and you should be expelled the second time. That would force clubs to cut their cloth in a more reasonable way.

What is fair and what is right are two entirely different things. The current situation in Scottish Football is unsustainable and measures need to be put in place to ensure that things change in the future. It is for the greater good of the game and will insure that it never totally implodes at any level. Anyway there is nothing stopping the fans from setting up a new team anyway and fighting there way back to prominance.

Obviously any rule like this would have to start from the day it was insitituted. Therefore even if Livi went into administration a day after this new rule came into place they would still get one more chance. So from what you are saying then you are more than happy for clubs to be run inefficiently, with the result being that many local businesses are left out of pocket time and time again? There needs to be a strong deterrent to ensure that owners run their club in a business-like way.

Also, it gives other clubs a chance to get into the league and the entry of the new club could be partly determined on how they are run.

But it is impossible to truly punish the people that mismanage clubs, without punishing the fans as well. The only measure you could take is ban them from owning a Scottish club again, but that would have little or no effect. Strong action needs to be taken now to ensure that the game survives in this country in the long run.

Life isn't fair. Financially cheating your way up leagues isn't fair. Administration and liquidation is a just conclusion to an ill-fated business plan. It 'seems' that the owners haven't actually got much of a pot to piss in, so I can't see sanctions having that great an effect, but they shouldn't be allowed to walk away relatively intact.

We don't all have a 'sugar daddy' thats going to bail us out.

There are restrictions put in place for company directors, so why not board of football clubs that might make them think twice before mis-manging.

The SFA etc. need to do more to prevent chancers and crooks from taking clubs over in the first place.

Recent history is full of examples of financial mismanagement. There should be some bond system or greater regular checks on club finances by governing bodies.

In many European countries, clubs have to obtain a licence to operate and failure to obtain one results in relegation to an appropriate level.

Like, erm, Northern Rock. Businesses go up the shitter pretty much regardless of regulations. Particularly ones based in an overly large stadium (rented?) with gate reciept figures that would struggle to deal with a "1st division" wagebook. Flynn says he was clear when he sold that assets were significantly outweighed by liabilities. Livingston FC was fucked then barring Massone et al having a lot of cash and the stupidity to match it.

I see the early Rantic has another "exclusive" Scottish Power are demanding money or the lights, quite litererly, go out at Livi. They also said no legal action was taken over the running of the HMRC story.

They tick one of your boxes anyway... rolleyes.gif

The big issue with Livingston FC, and this goes back to the early days after the move from Edinburgh, is that everyone who has owned it has been under the delusion that we are a Premier League club.

Had the club grown organically and found it's level (which I think is the First Division) we'd have much stronger foundations.

The best thing that could happen IMHO is for us to be relegated to the Third Division after a bout of admin where we could start again with a clean slate and a sensible business plan.

Realistically, with the crowds you get , your level is a league below. Ayr and Raith are much bigger clubs that Livi. Livi are more or less the same size of a club as the likes of Stirling Albion. They will have a season or two in the first division but realistically their crowd base only supports second division and part time football.
