Bennett puts end to speculation

QUOTE
“I have had some very amicable discussions with Bob Brannan,” said Bennett.

“I have no intention of buying the club.

“I am not taking the club over.

“I am taking no shares in Dundee. That’s it—end of story.

Don't think many QoS fans were believing it anyway. A few Dee fans will be red in the face mind.

Always thought those rumoursa about Chisholm had a distinct air of shite about them. A couple of guys speculating on an internet messageboard. Nothing more.

I'll be the first to admit I'm very disappointed. We badly need investment and fresh impetus, and the prospect of Bennett taking control seemed to come along at just the right time. I shudder to think where or whom we turn to next.

The positive aspect from this morning is that all the shite that has been spouted about a change of manager can be put to one side, and the whole club can focus on the best way to solve our financial troubles - winning this bloody league.

I am confuddled and befused!

When several of us said pre season that Dundee were gambling again with a wage bill beyond their income, we were told we didn't know what we were talking about, and that investment had been secured to cover any losses which would be incurred from another failed promotion bid (as this season is going to be).

What's this I hearr now? The distant drums of a financial problem? But that cannot be!! Can it? Surely not...

Debt will haunt them in the very near future.Instead of cutting their cloth accordingly. They have bought the full tweed suit, shoes, and silly cravat.

But they are debt free ohmy.gif We have been told this on several occasions - the club cannot take on debt!

And any overspend in the playing budget was accounted for pre season, so no risk involved!

Unless that wasn't true sad.gif

So was I right or wrong pre season?

Were the Dundee fans totally and utterly incorrect when they denied that their board was taking a financial gamble to secure an unlikely promotion and that everything was going to be fine no matter what?

What has changed in this master plan?

That's quite sad really. It really is incredible how many times this needs to happen for clubs to learn.

It's difficult as a fan to get used to the First division, but after a couple of seasons, for the larger clubs they settle into a position where they can survive with a reasonable playing squad and maybe get lucky with either a good manager or some good young players.

Serious questions should be asked of MacKinnon and the other jokers in charge. From the outside looking in, this was a disaster just waiting to happen. It sounds like they clearly speculated on too high a level of gate receipts also - another classic mistake.

Someone from our playing staff that's on a fair wage won't be on it for long anyway. biggrin.gif Bennett isn't taken over Dundee but he will be investing some money, I was told 300k maybe it won't be as much as that but relying on investment to keep the club alive is a joke and it was only last week I said someone put in money to keep the club ticking over but that someone doesn't want the publicity - it's not the first time he's invested and he said no more, now what do we do? Stop relying on investment for a start.
Szamo's_Ammo
I was surprised anyway when I heard about Bennett possibly taking over Dundee, as I don't think he has that much money. I certainly couldn't see him investing loads of money but possibly he could have made up the 40% shortfall, not going about signing the Queen of the South coaching and playing staff. How much are shares in Dundee?

I doubt he was unaware of the months of speculation so perhaps he could have let you know a little earlier. Or maybe he was going to takeover but his wife told him not to again.

He has enough to take over Dundee. I'm sure a 1% stake was only about £7500.

Dee4Life have 26%
Capital Dark Blues have 1%

So if there is 73% available would cost close to £550,000.

EDIT: He did have talks but it became apparent over a week ago that we wasn't going to take over the club but I still expect him to invest some money.

If we use the gap in managerial quality between Alex Rae and Gordon Chisholm as a yard stick, we just about cover the difference in post quality of the two Dundee posters Muggy, and VitalDees!

Meh, who am I to judge, I'm sure when my club is on the edge of going down the Suwannee I'll be far too busy making jealous inaccurate digs at rival teams to care about small matters like that. huh.gif

Try reading back everything that you posted on the "Chisholm To Be Dundee Boss Before Ross County Match" and then get back to me if you still disagree with me.

:hint: Try starting at the "Queens aren't a proper club" bit. As a Dundee fan that is the bit that should particularly worry you if true, because if we aren't a proper club, you're FUCKED!

Sounds fairly reasonable.

Presumably said business plan won't involve dishing out compensation left, right, and centre removing and then installing new managerial and playing staff?

No we will have a long term management team and the player that won't be at Dens for long shouldn't need compensation. The player will only stay if he overcomes his problem very soon.

Also, Dave Forbes in the Evening Telegraph is absolutely spot on, Bob Brannan should invest in the club and take over, I would very much welcome Bob as the majority shareholder he has done so much for the club but most people don't know what he's done as a lot of it has been behind closed doors and he's probably done more than anyone could imagine he's a top man. cool.gif

I don't want Dundee to get promotion this year. Mainly because it would be funny to see them stuck here for another season.. But it won't be so amusing if they go out of business. I wouldn't wish that on anyone... Except the old firm.

I've not been too regular on here lately, But one thing has got to me.....

Since when did Mr. Rae turn from the man who would get you SPL fitbaw then ( if my memory serves me correctly ) establish Dundee as in SPL club to the man who will lead you to 2nd Division football?

That would be the comments of some of the deluded followers of Dundee FC. Alex Rae deserves time to turn our season around. We are 6 points of top place, and had to deal with injuries to key players all season. Nobody should be writing us off just yet.

It's not like that at all. It has slowly built up if you look at our performances since Rae came in how many of them can you say we were outstanding in? It's not near double figures, the fans believe that we have rode our luck many times - which is true. The major factor is his tactical ability, it is non existent, simple as. He has signed terrible players on numerous occasions.

A very negative post yes but it is true, the funny thing is I've changed my mind and I'm willing to give Rae a little bit more time but if things don't start going our way soon then he has to go. Injuries in just another excuse. We're still in with a chance now but I wouldn't put a penny on Dundee because Queen of the South are better than us and most other teams in the league, St Johnstone look OK after their poor spell and Livingston although beat us 3-0 at home looked poor. Despite all of this I think the three teams mentioned are better than Dundee and Dunfermline could probably be added to that too.

We're simply not good enough to win the league.

Why do we keep hearing the phrase " INVESTING MONEY".Surely an investment is supposed to give you some sort of return on your candy.

It should be labled throwing cash away, as their aint a chance of even getting the cash back never mind making a small profit.

It,s not fucking investment, it's philanthropy.

How can the teams performances get any worse? We don't score and have barely made any chances in the past weeks.
