Hey guys. I'm having a problem with the CD drive on my laptop and was wondering if anybody had an suggestions.

Basically my drive isn't reading CDs or CD-roms yet can still read DVDs. My computer reports that there is no problem with the drive and I have went through the Windows troubleshooter which provides no solution. I have looked for updated drivers as well as un-installing and re-installing the drivers and now I can't think of what else to do. It just seems strange since it was working fine one day and then just stopped working.

Anybody have any ideas/advice?

My laptop is an Acer if that helps.

Cheers.

Odd that it only affects CD's and not DVD's... Are you sure the CD's aren't scratched or anything, do they work in other PC's?

Try having a peak at Device Manager...

Click Start and right click on My Computer and select Manage. Select Device Manager in the pane on the left and expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives if it isn't already done. Are there any marks over the device, an exclamation mark on a yellow background or anything?
