Now that the usual suspects are calling for the managers head it got me thinking. Why do proven managers go bad when they come to the Recs?
I don't want the manager to go but if you look at our record we've hounded out some good managers in the past like Christie who brought success and now we're hounding Maitland in the same way.
Do the fans deserve quality managers if they are to be hounded after a few bad results?
drs
Enjoy Elgin next season.

Hello, what you say is in no wat limited to the people of Alloa and it's a problem which stretches across football. Look at the situation with Dundee, Manager missed out on promotion by the skin of his teeth last season but he's had a poor start to this term and people want him sacked immediately. Even though, he can only be partly blamed for the poor form.

My own club suffers fdrom the self-same problem. There are a large number of people who wanted him sacked at the end of last season despite 2 consecutive play off appearances on a stupidly limited budget. This has got to the ridiculous stage of people on here (well, one person) claiming that he had said all along that McGlynn didn't have enough strikers at the start of the season as soon as a couple of them got injured. This was despite us having a shit load of options up front.

It's also worth noting that these people who immediately start demanding the Manager be sacked can never name a realistic candidate who is available and would doo a better job.

The short answer to your last question is that no, these fans don't deserve a better manager or results. Take Maitland for example, a bad start to this year and everyone forgets the job he's done over the last 2. IMHO Maitland deserves the season to see what he can do.

Alloa will not go down. I'd put every penny I have on that. It's only October, another 6 or 8 games before Alloa should consider punting Maitland. I could understand if he was unproven that the panic button might be pushed, but the question would have to be, is there anyone better available?

Terry Christie did a great job for us and will always be remembered for that but he IMO he left at the right time, things had gone stale and it was a time for a change.

As for Allan Maitland I have always been a fan and I still really hope he can it around. However its not unreasonable for people to get pretty p*ssed off at 4 points from the first quarter. Remember the manager himself set the target of the title or else the (promotion) play-offs for the season. He needs to start turning things around over the next few weeks.

To be fair, you've had more than a few bad results.

I've just got a feeling that Maitland will come good. Only a quarter of the season gone and Alloa have been late starters in the last couple of seasons.

That and I personally hope they survive because I've relatives up there and it's always a good away day for a huge feed!

I agree, when Alloa do get there act together, then the Queens, Stranraer and the strikerless super Lichties will be havin' an almichty scrap at the bottom.........
