What are QoS doing to get 6,000 seats in place at Palmerston by 31 March so that they can take their place in the SPL?

Obviously I have a vested interest here in the unlikely event that St. Mirren finish bottom of the SPL. ph34r.gif

I suspect that if QoS did win the 1st then there would be no promotion or relegation. However seeing as DAFC are going to win the 1st its not an issue.

lol dream, on as far as im aware there are plans in place that if need be 2 tempory stands can be thrown up in 8 weeks each so that would be a short term solution biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Not if your showing today was anything to go by. Light years better than us, yes (I reckon that Maryhill Juniors would pump us right now), but you are far from the best team in the league, from what I have seen.

31st March means f**k all anyway.

It was once a 'deadline', but can become a 'guideline' at the drop of a hat depending on how the SPL buffons are feeling at the time.

Are the SPL enforcing that "deadline" now? rolleyes.gif

If the skunks look likely to go down then the es pee el will believe whatever QoS tell them.

If it looks like it'll be Aberdeen or Motherwell then expect a full inspection of Palmerston to be done and umpteen faults to be found.

Heard a rumour the other day that there are plans to be revealed within the next few weeks about getting Palmerston upgraded. Apparently the pitch is getting moved closer to the Portland Road end and the Terregles Street End is to get done up. I just yawned tbh as we've heard it all before. I'll believe it if I see it!
Mustafa Sheet
Davie Rae was on Westsound after the game today and he mentioned that plans were submitted a while back and were passed for two new stands behind the goals.

Looks like that is still the preferred option. I would to see the Portland Road cover retained and seats added to the terrace with a new stand errected at the Terregles Street end. This would help retain the character of the ground.
larchfield boy
calling all queens fans why dont we all fone into that tv show diy sos ask them to come and build us 2 new stands. it might be made of mdf and painted in ugly colours but wot the heck it will get the job done. then we could take nick knowles to chancers to say thank you SORTED tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

I reckon they could renovate the terracing behind their goal no problem.

Hmmm! Captain, how's it going to feel sitting in that new stadium in Division 1? Don't worry about Palmerston, get yer ain future sorted, man.

A letter was sent out to all SFL clubs at the start of this season and is quite clear. Its on the SPL's website along with the SPL rulebook.

Here is the letter:

SPL letter to SFL clubs re promotion criteria

Its quite clear. To gain promotion, a club's registered ground must have 6,000 seats no later than 31st March. QoS will either have to have 6,000 seats in place by the 31st March or they will have to register another ground to play at. rolleyes.gif

Well, amen to that!

Let's hope we have seen the last of clubs beggaring themselves to build big empty stands, as the Buddies, Whistle, and others had to do in the past.

Maybe common sense will break out one day. I live in hope of being able to watch fitba, standing on my feet as they do in England, Europe and the World.

C'mon Scotland! You can qualify as a European country!

That's a big common misconception about St. Mirren. We started seating our ground in 1990 - 8 years before the formation of the SPL. We had 8,000 seats in place by 1995 - long before the SPL and its rules. rolleyes.gif

Capitano, I "stand" corrected. I was thinking about the newish stand behind the goals at the south end of Love St. In my visits to Paisley I only ended up there once. I imagine most first division supports were put at the end of the touchline stand most of the time, as we tended to be.

Was there not talk of dismantling it and putting it up at the new ground a few years back?

What size is your new stadium BTW?

Just the 8000?

The SPL required 10k initially, did it not?

The stand at the south end is the Main Stand - built in the 1920s.

The big 3,000 capacity stand at the west end for visiting fans was built 3 years before the formation of the SPL.

Only from stupid people on internet forums. It would cost a fortune to do such a thing and is obviously far more economical to start from scratch.

Can neither of you read?

St. Mirren had 8,000 seats in 1995. This was 3 years BEFORE the formation of the SPL and its 10,000 seat rule. St. Mirren didn't actually get into the SPL until 2000 - when we put in the final 2,000 seats. Those final 2,000 seats were installed on re-profiled terracing with the cost (£150k) being funded by a share issue underwritten by a new director plus the last of the Football Trust money.

St. Mirren did not build any big empty white elephant stands because of SPL rules and none of our debts came as a result of any SPL rules. Our debts were all incurred before the formation of the SPL.

So St Mirren did still have to spend valuable resources in order to become SPL compliant in so far as Love Street was concerned?

I remember going to love street a couple of times while the big away stand was under construction and sitting along the side of the pitch opposite the main stand, probably 93/94?

I always wondered why St Mirren built that big stand? They were in the the 1st division at the time so it wasnt for the bigger old firm supports. It seems strange they spent money on a big shiny new stand for first division away fans?

It's entirely possible that we could go down. Don't think their is much difference fron 3rd down to 12th to be honest. If you look at all the rest of the teams outside of the old firm, not many win 3 or 4 games in a row. Still think we will stay up. We are playing better football than last year.(dunfermline game, Hearts 1st half excluded) Just not getting the rub of the green at the moment.
Need to get a couple of wins soon or confidence could be a factor

Theres no need for QOS to start worrying about sorting their stadium out just yet, lets see where they are at Christmas, of course some other promotion chasing clubs have the stadiums in place already, so no worries there wink.gif

Just highlights the utter madness of SPL rules again, I can't see any reason why QoS couldn't play in the SPL with Palmerston the way it is, I actually like the ground, oone of my favourite away grounds. 6000 seats most of which will then remain empty.

It is a requirement of SPL rules (quite rightly IMO) that stadia must be all-seater.

And the minimum of 6,000 seats is quite reasonable, because I think all away teams would take at least 500 fans - and Celtic and Rangers would take more. That would obviously be on top of the home fans.
BIGdavieT
Palmerston has hosted countless games with attendances over 6000 (mostly in the cup, some against premier league opposition) in the past few years effortlessly. The SPL rules are a complete joke, especially when a lot of fans would actually prefer to stand anyway.

Sadly though, it seems that if we want to go to the SPL we have to have 6000 seats.

Do any other queens fans have any more information on plans that may be in place should we stay at the top of division one?

Edited to add: I would fully support any plan to just bolt some seats onto the portland rd end. Then if the authorities ever do get some sense in the future, we could have our beloved terracing back again!

Why is it right to have all-seaters in Scotland when some of Germany's biggest clubs have terraces?

Alot of Geman clubs are introducing these "safe standing" terraces.

There is a growing campaign for them to be introduced in the UK. You can read more about it on here.
