Queens have a huge floating support, so it is possible.
A couple of years ago we went top of the league by beating Inverness at Palmerston in front of more than 4,000 fans.
No, we didn't. Though every single time someone posts on the subject of that game they claim we did.
The crowd v Inverness on 18th October 2003 was 3,547.
Since that day we've had the following crowds of over 3,500 in League games:
16/11/03 Ayr United 3,555
27/12/03 Falkirk 4,075 (850 Falkirk fans)
27/08/06 Gretna 5,481 (1,465 Gretna fans)
02/01/07 Gretna 3,714 (900 Gretna fans)
We were still top of the first division when we met Ayr and that was a Sunday game which probably helped the derby crowd. The Falkirk crowd was a seasonal one and massively boosted by Falkirk's travelling support as both teams were within striking distance of the top. And then the two Gretna games had their unique D&G derby status going for them.
Bad weather always makes crowds look bigger than they usually do. More people head for the stands and those that remain on the terracing tend to bunch together at the back. I do think the fact it poured all day today probably cost us a 3,500 crowd today. That and the fact Livi's travelling support for a team top of the table was pretty disappointing (285).
