Obviously he'll play, not many other options, but IMO he more often than not under performs for Scotland.

So where should he play?

For me he doesn't control the game from the middle of the park, his passing is sloppy, particuarly for someone who plays for MU. Makes the odd good challenge & works hard but we rely on him to be our star man.

Out wide he drifts in & out the game and hes certainly not got the pace or skill to do any damage to a defence.

Any views?

The last few international games, Fletcher has pretty woeful, but for United hes a completely different player. I can't remember the last time he had a bad game for United. I think he will start in the middle of midfield with Hartley.

If Fletcher could players aswell for Scotland as he does for United we don't have to worry. He always gives 100% for United. His performances started going downhill for Scotland after the Italy game.

I just hope he can regain his form in time for Norway next sat

I have always liked Fletcher, but even I cannot deny how poor he has been in the last few games for us. Ideally he should be rested but in the realworld that wont happen

On the right. Brown in the middle, Fletcher on the right please George.

I think he might start

Gordon
Broadfoot Weir Caldwell Naysmith
Morrison Fletcher Hartley Commons
Miller McFadden

Thats prob the strongest team we could put out next sat however i would rather boyd started than miller biggrin.gif

Not thrilled about the ones in bold to be honest. I've not really seen anything of Morrison, so I'll give him a chance.

For me where Fletcher plays all depends on who we're playing and whereabouts.

Generally speaking, Fletch's energy is put to best use in the middle of the park against the better quality sides. He'll work hard, run all day, get in faces, break it up and retain it from there etc. Or in other words, in games where we're unlikely to see an awful lot of the ball Fletcher is best deployed in the engine room.

Against sides who we're considerably better than or sides who we're really looking to win comfortably against at home perhaps, I wouldn't be opposed to fielding Fletcher wide right.

He'll play as one of a central midfield three. which is his best position, given the absence of Barry Ferguson.

I think think Fletcher gets more involved in the game when he plays right midfield. Don't think he has played well for Scotland for I while now. Don't know if he's trying too hard because Ferguson is not playing.

Agreed, but with Hartley not playing well either and Fletcher or Brown likely to be on the right, we're likely to see him in the team.

Robson in the centre is the only one I'd definitely have in midfield at the moment. All the other places are up for grabs.

No chance, Robson has been poor the last few weeks.

And he's a left midfielder.
And every tackle he makes is a foul.
And he runs about like a daftie.
And he's ginger.

There's the point. Ferguson improves every single one of his midfield colleagues. We have seen just how much Scotland are missing him, and indeed Rangers had to spend 3 million and 32k a week to replace him.

Once Ferguson gets back, it'll be

McFadden Maloney

Brown Fletcher

Ferguson

Are we playing the famous 5-1-2-2 formation?

That'll be the midfield, it looked a lot better when I typed it out on here.

Broadfoot has been brilliant for Rangers this season and done well against Iceland away, i see not reason why he shouldn't start

I see. I'd be quite content with that. I'd imagine the other spot would be either of our on form strikers: Miller or Iwelumo.
Virtual Insanity
Gordon

Broadfoot Weir Caldwell Naysmith

Fletcher Brown Robson

Maloney Miller McFadden

I'd like to see us line up like that with possibly Commons and Hartley coming in instead, but that defence looks scarily weak.

now come on. We arent supposed to pick players if they werent born, bred and lived in Scotland their whole lives and trace their antecedents back to Culloden and now we cant pick ginners. We wont have a team at this rate laugh.gif

He's been the best midfielder in the Scotland team since Burley took over IMO and it'd be harsh to drop him.

On the bench. tongue.gif
central staggie
Center Midfield. Needs to cut out the 40-yard wonder passes he tries every game he plays for Scotland. Keep it simple and leave the 40 yarders to McFadden wink.gif
diamonds2002
He has just signed a contract extension at Man U to keep hime there until 2012
