I see Dermot Desmond has kept up the Celtic FC tradition of charity for the needy by flinging the Tory Party £50,000. This entitles him to personal meetings with David Cameron to discuss policy. Both Old Firm clubs now appear to be controlled by Tory supporting millionaires, maybe Dangerous Dave can up his donations and we can have an Old Firm summit in the Garrick with Call Me Dave in the chair?

What do Celtic fans think of Desmond anyway? Never really hear him criticised, except by mouth-breathers on Yoru Call asking for him to 'put his hand in his pocket'.

Think he can pretty much do with his dosh what he likes.

Guess he must have found the £50k down the back of his couch.

On the other issue of whether I or other Celtic fans like him or not? Doesn't matter too much to me whos in his particular role as long as it's not detremental to Celtic.

Well the man does list Adams and McGuiness as close personal friends and McGuiness at least has been across to play golf with him in Bermuda or somewhere like that. We all know where himself and J P actually got their money.

He has a fortune of over 1billion, his investement in celtic over the past 3 years has turned over big profits and yet he doesn't give out any substantial cash to reinvest in the team.

think that sums him up
seamus
Negative: I wish he would plough into his fortune and take Celtic to a higher level.

Positive: He said recently in an interview that Gus Hiddink would have taken the Celtic job but when Dermot looked into his eyes he never saw any passion towards the job so he never offerred him it.Next he was with Martin o'neil in the Royal Dorchester in London and looked into his eyes and offered him the job within five minutes. He has good instincts and has the club in his heart.

He can't put money into the club it's a plc

i believe that for him to invest money he would have to increase his percentage holdings and to do this he would have to declare to the stockmarket he planned to take over the club

something he seems unwilling to do

hence no personnel investment from Desmond

GN for this sh*te, it has nothing to do with football thanks very much.

You could really have started a topic basically on this, as the other has no relevance to the football club and hence should not be in this part. All it does is clutter the place with needless non-football debate, and we have enough of that.

I'm actually not a fan of sugar daddies as witnessed by the Gretna experience, and some of our biggesr clubs years ago. Teams like Gretna, Rangers artificially gain success on the basis of someone throwing money at them then writing it off, or moving the debt elsewhere. Football is rapidly going to a place I'd rather it not, but it's inexorable given the success of the "Champions" league that the big clubs do whatever they need to in order to tie up even more of the finance on offer

I agree with this. Certainly a team with the fanbase of Celtic don't need a billionaire to pour cash in to be competitive.
The Dog
Remember DD put circa £10m in our last rights issue for Lennoxtown.

His only fault is publicly saying WGS can stay as long as he like

Is this another thread involving people going out of there way to find any way to discredit the best football club in Scotland.

Agree with this 100%. It annoys me how clubs in England can be allowed to carry such large amounts of debt. Man Utd have around £700m of debt and yet nip out and spend £30m on Berbatov!

Most of the other big Inglish clubs are the same although I think Arsenal are working very much to a budget and deserve immense credit for this in the current climate in the Premiership.

I know this sort of thing pisses Blatter off hugely and wouldn't be surprised to see him push for some sort of regulations in future about debt ridden teams playing in Champs League with mountains of debt and showing no urgency to try and reduce it.

As long as a club can service their debt then there isn't a problem. Debt is a fact of life when it comes to running businesses - if it wasn't no-one would be worrying about the credit crunch. Manchester Utd can afford to meet their obligations and spend money on Berbatov.

Arsenal have hundreds of millions of pounds of debt as well from building their new ground. The problem is with clubs like Dundee who ran up huge debts that they couldn't possibly pay.

the top 4 in England, combined, have a debt of £1b.

Manchester Utd and Chelsea have the majority of this.

England's football clubs, as a whole, are in £3b debt.

McGuiness is a keen golfer! I believe he is also very keen on dressage and clay pidgeon shooting as well, he needs an excuse to keep his shotgun. wink.gif
