We simply cannot finish the first quarter of the season without a league win. We've improved in recent games, but still haven't had enough to merit any victories.
I can only hope that the team go out with their mentality and attitude spot on against County, otherwise we'll be in real bother.
Going for 1-0 Morton, more in hope than expectation.

Must win game... An early six pointer...
We've used this term on a couple of occasions already this season, but they fit the bill again this weekend.
It's the first of a double header of course, with the two teams meeting again the following week in the Challenge cup.
It's always a bit of a trouble when you come up against a team like Morton who are looking for their first win, as that usually means we give them it.. we're charitable like that for some reason !
I've not seen Morton play yet, and score would suggest that County should win, but looking at the scores from last week you drew with Dunfermline, while we were well beaten byt them the week before.
I think County could just edge this game, but I don't see it being a high scoring game.

I'm actually really looking forward to my trip to Dingwall, it's been a while since we've been up that neck of the woods, but I shall take some comfort from the last 2 trips up there, which resulted in Morton wins. I didn't make the Dunfermline game, but I understand that we made some positive steps forward in terms of performance. Massively frustrating that we couldn't build on our 1 goal lead when we had it, which ultimately came back to bite us firmly on the arse, but it appears we played relatively well.
If we play with a similar system this weekend, maybe sacrificing one of the 2 strikers for another midfield player, then I think we could be pretty effective on the break with McAlister and Russell on the flanks. I would maybe play something like this
Cuthbert
Walker - Shimmin - Harding - Smith
Paartalu
Russell - McGuffie - Masterton - McAlister
Weatherson

This is the proverbial "6 pointer". Not sure how it really constitutes a 'must-win' for County, given that Clyde will be in the bottom two anyway, but certainly it is a huge game for ourselves. Having convinced myself not to go I am now being lured back by the fleeting hpe of a decent performance...
Head says 3-1 County though with an 86th minute breakaway goal to tie up a previously tight match.

This Saturday should see our first win of the season. The following week will see our exit (as per) from the Alba Cup.
How does that sound ? Is it a deal?

According to the local papers up here, the Morton players are on a double win bonus to win this game.
A nice insentive I think, but it's a bit of a sad state of affairs if a group of players will play better for more cash rather then giving 100% for their personal pride !

Not one I've heard, but I really wouldn't be surprised - it's the sort of thing our chairman does.

Morton have shown signs of improvement over the last few weeks with a win and a draw against Queen of the South and a should have won match against Dunfermline. I would not be surprised if we don't put the same team out against Ross County which is a pretty attacking formation and at some point soon we are going to gub someone.
Having said that, it all depends on the mood our players are in and what with rumours about Irons having 'lost the dressing room', anything could happen. Last week we should have beaten Dunfermline who well beat RC. On the other hand, RC beat Airdrie a team who gubbed us!!
Anything might happen on the day and I am coming up to see what does!

Its quite believeable to be perfectly honest.
It probably didn't make our rag because it suggests that even pressing the panic botton has failed.
After getting last weeks prediction spot on i am well aware that i will probebly get it spectacularly wrong but Im going for a County 3-1 win with Gardyne coming back to haunt his former employers.
If the bonus story is true it points slightly to Desperate even at this stage of the season, But with Ardrie and Clyde picking up points Morton will fear being detatched from the pack would be bad for morale but maybe getting pumped wouldnt be that bad for Ton as if they did Irons may get the chop and a fresh gaffer would come in before the drop is all but confirmed in Feb!!!
the gaffer ain't the problem.

Conditions today are not the best. It's been raining since about 3am, and the wind is starting to pick up quite a bit too..
Isn't winter football just the best !
I think the pitch should be fine though, probably quite heavy.

Time is fast running out on the DI/DC reign. Would have liked them to get more time, but it is a results business and not picking up one win in the first quarter is unacceptable.
