Dear Scotland Supporters Club Member

Please find below details of a Press Release issued today by the Scottish FA.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Kind regards
Scotland Supporters Club

The Scottish FA today confirmed that they have secured a deal to play Argentina at Hampden in a Tennent's International Challenge match on Wednesday November 19th this year. Following extensive negotiations between the two parties, the ticket prices have been set at the same level as the forthcoming World Cup Qualifying Match against Norway. This being a significant improvement on the prices that were suggested when the prospect of the match was first discussed earlier this year.

The prices are:- Adults £25, £30 and £35. Family £18/£10.

Details of how supporters will be able to purchase tickets will be made available in due course.

Scottish FA Chief Executive Gordon Smith said today:-

"I am delighted that we have managed to strike a deal to bring Argentina to Scotland. When we were speaking to the representatives, it was clear that the Argentinians wanted to play us and were just as excited as we were about a match at Hampden. We are very pleased that we will be able to put on the game at a pricing structure that will appeal to fans.

"We want Scotland fans to see the players pit themselves against the best in the world and there are few teams better than Argentina. This is going to be a great match and a fantastic occasion and I know that George and the team will put on a show that will do the country proud.

National Coach George Burley said:-

"We cannot wait to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the world and look forward to our fans giving the Argentinians a great Scottish Hampden welcome when they come here in November."

Does anyone know if we're planning a fixture on October 15th? Or is it just another 'training camp'...?

EDIT TO ADD: and also... because it is an issue for many people... at a time when the SFA have no sponsor for Scottish Cup, has delays with youth centres, and is making punitive cut-backs elsewhere: how much are we paying the Argentinians to play this game? And is it all coming from gate receipts?
Vialoran
I can't wait for this game. Hopefully, Smith has struck the deal where the likes of Messi and Maxi Rodriguez make appearances.

However, what are the bets that Traynor et al will be slating Smith for originally proposing the ticket prices at £40 when they have now came down to £25?

I agree with your sentiments regarding the money, but Scotland need to play the big teams in friendlies in order to prepare for big matches. Our players will all learn by playing that sort of opposition - even if we lose 5-0.

Argentina play a fairly similar style to Holland in terms of their pace, passing and movement, and it will be an ideal work-out before our 2 games against Holland.

Quite agree, but there must be a 'fair price' - and an 'excessive price'. How much ££££?

I bet the Argentinian fans that come over will be as excited to see Kirk Broadfoot and Graham Alexander as we are in seeing Carlos Tevez and Lionel Messi cool.gif

Traynor et al will be quite correct,i'd be very surprised if this game wasnt arranged months ago with the clumsy SFA media campaign in the interim to get Argentina to Hampden being merely an attempt by the SFA to dip their hands into our pockets, assuming(as most football authorities do these days)that we are all mugs.I was well proud that the scottish public told the SFA to GTF on that occassion and the fact we are now getting the game anyway but at semi-reasonable prices is a rare triumph for the ordinary fan.

On the basis of this story Dundee Sat Morn League

Id still tell them to GTF

Lining the pockets of over-paid "stars" to make cameo appearances and a great night in for the big cheese's at Hampden while they basically shut down a 15 year old muck-about league over 4k ref fee's.....nice one SFA, great decision making once again

Those prices aren't "normal". Argentina it may be but it's still a friendly. Some people are going to pay £35 to watch the Argies in a glorified training session and in this current climate that's just scandalous.

I am really disappointed this is going ahead - I have no real desire to see the Argentine "stars".

Frankly the prospect of a friendly match on a Wednesday night in November just makes me think that I am going to freeze my bollocks off and get stung £25 for the privilege

I agree as well - I believe the way it was all managed has, yet again, highlighted Smith's inexperience for his current role.

Bring on the Argies!

Those are the same price categories as they have for the Norway game.

Didn't they initially ask people about prices of £50? Obviously they've taken the opinion of people on board and have reduced their prices accordingly.

It's not as though it's compulsory. If you don't want to go, don't go.

The Norway game is a competative fixture, the Argentina game isnt.Letsnot delude ourselves that these are reasonable prices just because they bandied about the idea of charging twenty quid more for them originally. In haggling ,opening by asking for double what you really want is the oldest trick in the book. Its sort of like the oil companies pushing prices up really high then lowering them later-would anyone last year have thought unleaded at 107ppl was a bargain? No,but a lot of people have been deluded into thinking it is now.

It's a waste of time and money.

Are Celtic not playing in the Chumps league the week after? Would expect most of the Celtic players to pull out of any squad,...then again maybe no as they`ll be out of the Chumps league by then. wink.gif Expect most of the Rangers players to pull out of any squad also...Just

As are most friendlies.
HibeeJibee
Celtic have a Champions League group-stage game the week after, I believe away to Aalborg. There is also an SPL midweek round, the midweek before. It's very possible some players will 'get knocks'...

I'm also intrigued by the SFA pushing all the 'big name Argentinian stars' like Messi, Mascherano and Riquelme. I thought the Argentine FA had struck a deal with their clubs, which meant they could go to the Olympics in return for not having to play friendlies for 2 years? So will they even be at Hampden?
FilthyMack
Even less likely to see Riquelme now with him at Boca. wink.gif

Week before a Champions League week, doesn't bode well for seeing the big stars. £25, midweek, friendly. think i'll give this one a miss.

Juan Roman Riquelme up against Paul Hartley.
