Grounds I've been in, rather then watched on telly:

1) Stadium Of Light (Mackems, not Lisbon)
2) Parkhead
3) Hampden (when full)
4) Ibrox
5) Broomfield (the old one, with 4000+ in)
GOALS!!
Full St James' Park - Newcastle

Celtic Park - European nights

Hampden when full for Internationals

Old Trafford mid 1980's with the Stretford end as standing

Nou Camp
Death warmed up
Wisla Krakow
Anywhere in Germany, Greece or Turkey

Nowhere in Scotland.

Pretty much agreed there. Germany is fantastic for Atmosphere. The fact that they always have a dedicated section for their mental fans most of the time with Standing Facilities and give the Choir Masters a Mic to get the crowd going is fuckin excellent.
With Moenchengladbach they choir master carries a Megaphone to Away games and at Borussia Park they have built in a PA at the Nordkurve for him. I've not been to the new stadium yet but they had something installed at Die Bokelberg for him as well. The atmosphere was fuckin magic!
German clubs have got it going properly. I'd move to Germany in a second just to be able to follow BMG home and away if I didn't have a family here and the right job came up over there.
Andyboy
Links Park has by far and away the best atmosphere on the whole planet....
kiwififer
when filled with a decent crowd, old Bayview. The best example of a small ground I have been to, loads of fans miss it, not just us...

New Bayview is a legoland stand, with no soul, I seriously hate it with a passion. If the Devil designs grounds, New Bayview would be his design.

Known as Capa's.
British stadium atmospheres have gone down because of over-policing. If they let their hair down a bit then they would be just as good.

That I've been to:

Luigi Ferraris (Sampdoria)
Stadion Partizana (Partizan Belgrade)
Parkhead
St James Park
Anfield
Paisley Plumber
Hard to choose but here's x5 off the top that I've been in whose atmosphere's are memorable for different reasons.

Hampden is ok but, preferred old one for atmosphere.
Elland Road, saw them play Liverpool, really evil atmosphere. Fans were arseholes, chanting "Riper Utd" dry.gif
Somerset - Saw them beat the Huns with 25k in ground and Ayr won... happy days at the old place biggrin.gif
Camp Nou Barca, found the sheer scale of the place incredible.
Forthbank - Think their ground setup ideal for us at Ayr.
The Minertaur
Nothing beats Central Park.....
DAFC
.....for stock cars.

great post mate, you are absolutely right. the support in germany and great britain is different: on the islands people tend to sing real song whereas in germany it's all about being loud, clapping and shouting easy but effective chants (like ole..., or schalala...). all in all, seen over 90 minutes, the atmosphere in a german stadium is much louder than in a great britain one

You've not experienced British stewards, you are not even allowed to stand up dry.gif

well I've already been to parkhead and i was very disappointed because the support and atmosphere in a normal league match is crap. i had expected it to be much better.

Farum Park, Farum, Denmark. Best atmosphere I've ever witnessed. biggrin.gif

Nothing matches Tynecastle in Scotland, although I would say that... I'd imagine Celtic Park must be pretty special on a European night but I hear nothing when I am there. St James' Park is brilliant when the Geordies are up for it, but it was a weird place for the recent match vs Hull City.
Dunning1874
John Rowbotham, who reffed a fair few Old Firm games and I believe European games too, commented after he retired that the best atmosphere he'd ever experienced was at Cappielow, so there. tongue.gif

Best one i've experienced was Man Utd vs Barcelona in the Champions League Semi Final at OT. Place was bouncing, especially when scholes put the ball in the top corner, never experienced anything like it, and prob will never again

That I've been to... (when full or for a big game)

2) Bramall Lane
3) Craven Cottage
4) Cappielow Park
5) Hampden Park

1. Hampden - The stadium itself is dire, but the atmosphere at the recent games against Italy and France were unforgetable.

2. Parkhead - I was really impressed by the stadium when I first went there when Scotland beat Latvia 2-0 to qualify for France 98. An excellent atmosphere generated that day. However i've been disappointed with the atmosphere any time I have been to a domestic game there.

3. Bramal Lane - I went to see Utd v Watford a couple of seasons ago when they thought they were going to stay up after winning the game 1-0. The ground was bouncing that day. I was particularly impressed with the noise coming from their Kop.

4. The Hawthorns - I saw WBA play Burnley in season 01/02 in a fairly run of the mill league game. The home fans made a good noise throughout and managed to stay behind the team although they were playing poorly. They eventually scored to win 1-0.

5. Tynecastle - Cracking ground. The crowd is right on top of the pitch and we were lucky enough to play them in the cup there, twice in recent years and even although we lost the 2 games the atmosphere at both ties was magnificent and I really savoured it. I'd really like to go to an Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle at some point in the future.

TheLip
I'm only going on atmospheres I have experienced.

1) Hampden
TheLip
I can only go on atmospheres I have witnessed for myself.

1) Hampden - In the 1970's with the crowd exceeding 100,000 big European nights and International matches were absolutely amazing.

2) Parkhead - In the 1980's in particular the atmosphere was really special a quarter final victory over Real Madrid in 1980 was amazing. Never experienced that kind of passion in club football before or since.

3) Nou Camp - Barcelona v Real Madrid I've been to the Nou Camp three times now but that was my first match and I'll never forget it.

4) Tynecastle - A First Division match between Hearts and Airdrie in 1980 as the fought for the title, Hearts eventually won it by two points, but the atmosphere that night was absolutely electric and fabulous entertainment. I went through that night on the Hearts supporters bus which left from the Lorne Hotel in Glasgow.

5) Edgeley Park - Not long after I moved down to Manchester I got friendly with a couple of lads who were football mad and went everywhere abnd anywhere just to watch football. I went to Oldham, Bury, Bolton, City, United, Liverpool and Everton with them, but the best atmosphere I experienced was at Stockport County. I think it was 1996 and they had gone on a wee run in the League Cup and were knocked out in the quarter finals by Aston Villa. Then in the fifth round of the FA Cup they went to Everton and drew 2-2 so the Wednesday night at Edgeley Park 10 days later was immense. The game went end to end and it was impossible to hear yourself think for the noise, Everton eventually scraping through 3-2. absolutely brilliant. The following season was even better, in the League Cup, Sheff Utd, Blackburn, West Ham, and Southampton were all put to the sword at Edgeley Park before they went out in the semi-final to Middlesbrough. Even in the semi-final though they lost 2-0 at home but won 1-0 away in the second leg and Middlesbrough were hanging on at times.
