From the Solway Free Press:

DALBEATTIE STAR 5 LOSSIEMOUTH 1
STAR had their first ever win over a Highland League side and they did it in style in the end.
Their hero was Scott Milligan who cracked home four goals.
They controlled the game but found themselves a goal down in 25 minutes when Joe Lasley broke away and fired high into the net past helpless Graham Wright.
It was their only shot of the first half on target but disaster struck them when John Urquhart was sent off for a second yellow.
After this there was no doubt who was going through with Milligan levelling in 68 minutes with a great header and then Lewis Sloan hit the ball high into the net in 82 minutes.
Three minutes later Milligan drove home from 18 yards and he completed his hat-trick in with an 86th minute penalty before striking number five on the final whistle.

NEWTON STEWART 1 BRORA 1
A PENALTY in the last minute gave South side Newton a draw but a long trip north next weekend.
The South side, struggling in their own league deserved their draw after going a goal down in 12 minutes.
A defensive slip-up allowed John Cameron, who was making his debut, to go one on one with keeper Harry Fidler before slipping the ball home into the net.
The second half saw Newton coming more on the attack and in 50 minute Micky Sutherland's shot just went inches past.
Brora had a couple of chances on the hour mark but Fiddler dealt with shots from Cameron and Smith and then in 70 minutes at the other end a raking shot from Willie Rennie was stopped on the line.
Micky Sutherland hit the woodwork for Newton in 80 minutes before be was up-ended in the last minute. He dusted himself down and sent the Brora keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.

ST CUTHBERT WANDERERS 0 WICK ACADEMY 3
WICK controlled the match and won easlily in the end.
Hat-trick hero was Gary Weir who made sure of a place in the 2nd round after a mammoth trip of more than 350 miles.
He dumped Saints in the 25th minute with a shot from the edge of the box.
In the second half it was a repeat story and he added a second when he shot home from a David Cowie cross in the 47th minute.
In the 51st minute Mark Baker cleared off the Saints line from a Nigel McKenzie shot and then five minutes later Weir shot inches over the bar.
In the 75th minute a long range shot from Martin Gunn whistled wide of the post and then Weir completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute.
He was left clear in the box from a Stevie Cunningham cross and he stabbed the ball home from seven yards.

WIGTOWN 2 FORRES MECHANICS 2

THE tiny South side held out for a draw but they won't be envying their 250 mile trip north next Saturday.
They looked as if they might be over-awed by their Highland opponents after losing a 9th minute goal when Martin Sharp fired home from close in.
But the home side fought back and five minutes before the turn they levelled the score when Martin McClymont beat two defenders before crashing the ball into the net.
Barry White put Wigtown ahead for the first time on the hour mark when he headed home a cross from Alex McColm and a shock looked on the cards.
But Forres had other ideas and they got a disputed penalty in the 76th minute when Derek Cluckie was adjudged to have barged into a Forres player in a goalmough scramble. Simon Allan fire home the spot-kick in the and then Cluckie was red-carded when he was coming off at the end for remarks to the whistler.

Newton Stewart were fantastic yesterday, Brora had a few chances but Newton held their own well. In all honesty though, once Tucker went off, the team had more about them and seemed to have more cohesion. I would imagine the team that finished the game would more or less start it! Can see Newton taking them up in Brora, and then seeing of Forfar

Happy with a draw and the team's performance - no reason we can't do the same again next week. We have a reasonable chance of getting a game against Forfar now. If we did get through it would be an exceptionally tough match in the next round but everyone would most certainly relish the challenge.

Am glad you think I made a good substitution tongue.gif Probably a better one than your own da made against Gala last year when me and my brother were on holiday. Unlike your positive criticism wink.gif the following post was made by somebody who didn't have any prior grievances.

is this a wind up!! newton stewart are the worst team i have ever seen in my life!
they brought on a substitute that wasnt exactly build to play football (too much pie and bovril if u ask me) no exuse gala could have played thier under 17s and the score would have been about the same, should have been 15 nill, newton stewart were at full strength,

fairys to the top

Yes i was up Ziggs, was an og though not a Murdoch goal............looked offside a mile not only when it was put into the six yard box but also the ball into the box before it..........players were livid with the lino...........also ruled out a perfectly good goal from Soltys at the same end....thats football though eh?..........the home team were on top for most of the game but if you dont take your chances you will pay the price with boys like Jones, killer,Murdoch,Paisley etc against you.

I only watched the first half and Crichton were definetly not on top during what I saw.
Was quite surprised with what I saw thought the crichton were flying but seemed a few boys falling out and walking back when they lost posession - any thoughts?

Made the second half thought you were worth your draw but thought you were a bit lucky with the penalty thought it was of the soft kind from where i was standing it looked a good challenge

Good post - I agree that we merited a draw and could have maybe even won it if their keeper hadn't played so well. I thought it was a pen but it certainly wasn't a stone waller and some refs wouldn't have necessarily given it. Personally I thought Martin Sproule controlled the game well throughout. If we had lost the same penalty as they did I maybe would have been complaining like Brora did. Thats football for you though - everyone sees things through rose tinted spectacles at some point.

I think some of the committee were a touch disappointed about the financial side of things and who can really blame them. But when reality set in I think they came to terms with the fact that we still have a wonderful opportunity in front of us. Hopefully we can still say that on Saturday night. Won't be easy up there but I don't think we have any reason to travel thinking we can't still win the tie.

Are you saying some of the committee would rather you lost than fund a trip to Brora huh.gif

No but if we were to lose the tie we would have spent nearly all the money received from the SFA going to Brora. For small clubs like Newton Stewart the Scottish Cup cash represents a fairly large chunk of our annual budgetted income. They were desperate for us to progress without the need for an extra match - I think thats understandable really. Doesn't mean they were not delighted that we got a late equaliser in the end up.

Totally agree. As a fan you want to win but as someone who funds the club it must be a nightmare having to go all the way to Brora. Same goes for Wigtown. I'm happy they drew with Forres but a replay to an HFL side is a real pain in the arse.
