I'm having trouble connecting to the internet on my laptop. It connects to the network but comes up "Local Only" I've checked my firewall but there's nothing there that blocks a connection(I don't think) Anyone got any ideas what my problem is?

unplug your router from the wall for 30 seconds and then plug it in again...

if this doesnt work then

right click on the network icon on the system tray, select manage network connections to bring up your lan/wireless connections. right click on whatever one you're using and click properties and then right click on ipv4 and make sure you have set up the default gateway... it'll probably be 192.168.1.1 or something like that...

alternatively have it automatically assign an ip address.

Or right click on your wireless Icon and press repair.

I've tried the repair. It comes up about my firewall. Query User or something. Will try some of your suggestions FG, Cheers.

This time it connected. But never allowed me to do anything. Said I couldn't connect to my DNS or something? I hate computers for life.

This used to happen on a work wireless router and just started happening at home to my gfs laptop on our wireless router.

I have to confess the only way I've found of getting round it is by manually assigning an IP address.

If you dont know how to do that, post on here and someone will try and talk you through it.

Sounds the same problem. The weird thing is I can connect to my neighbours internet with no problems. But ANY other network I can't.

And no, not a scooby doo how to manually assign an IP address.

Vista. I was on other PC forums just there, every thread is full of people complaining about it but has no solutions. It's becoming a pain in the ass when at work etc, as I can't connect to the networks.
