Proteus Maximus
Should this song be allowed to get played at porkheid? Clearly an Irish rebel song but was played before the OF game last month.

This is a perfect example of why we ask them "why don't they go home?"

For those who are in love
There's a song that's warm and tender
For those who are oppressed
a song you can protest
So liberate your minds
And give your soul expression
Open up your hearts
And I'll sing for you this song

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battle cries and songs of hope and joy
So join us hand in hand
All across this ancient land
Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

It was back in ancient times,
The bard would tell his stories
Of the heroes, of the villain,
and chieftiens in the glen.
Through Elizabethian time
And Cromwellian war and fury
Put our pipers to the sword,
Killed our harpers and our bards.

Let the people sing their stories and their songs
And the music of their native land
Their lullabies and battle cries and songs of open joy
So join us hand in hand
All across this ancient land
Throughout the test of time
It was music that kept their spirits free
Those songs of yours and of mine

Ireland, land of song,
Your music lives forever
In its valleys, in its mountains,
In its hills and in its glens.
Our music did survive
Through famine and oppression.
To the generations gone,
I'll sing for you this song.

Celtic fans received more arrests and fines in Barcelona than Rangers did in 19 games in Europe, but the footage of English casuals is too tasty for anyone who can't think for themselves to be mislead.

Which part in particular is it that you object to? The Irishness, or the alleged "rebel" aspect?

Mr Beyemystic, would you agree under the previously recorded `Bhoys against Bigotry` stance which Celtic had undertaken some years ago, it would indeed serve us all better if they refrained from playing such songs at Celtic Park?

I say this with thought that such songs could indeed be a catalyst to sectarianism itself and would easily provide a green light (excuse the pun) within the minds of others. Indeed, such minds may even think Celtic Football Club themselves actually endorse such bigoted opinion by allowing these songs to be played at their football ground.

Of course, I`m sure Celtic Football Club do not intend any such incitement and indeed wish the entire opposite.

However, unfortunately, such songs in relation to traditions and heritage are very easily misread to mean something completely different by the lesser educated within the ranks of a football club`s supporters and as such can ignite a dangerous patriotism which in turn projects hate! sad.gif

Most assuredly not.

There is certainly nothing wrong with the song above. As Europeans in the 21st Century we should all be looking to outgrow the idea that any and all Irish stuff is "a catalyst to sectarianism".

I take your point Mr Beyemystic regarding Irish songs but any song whether at Celtic Park or Ibrox which portrays rebel tendencies and aims to remind us of our country historically being chief offender will indeed encourage a tit for tat response from those who oppose such songs.

And I say this as a generalisation of such songs and not anyone particularly mentioned within this thread.

From a parallel perspective, it could be said our own current national anthem `Flower of Scotland` is of similar ilk and would stir up ill feeling with our neighbours in the south!

Now, as you and I both know, there are a number of people who love such rebellious tunes for it allows them excuse to retaliate and pent ill feeling.

Hence the nature of the two sided bigoted beast which continues to surround us in this country and across the water in Ireland! sad.gif

There are few songs less offensive than 'Let the People Sing'

You'd have to be a bigot to think otherwise. Let the plastic Northern Irishmen complain.

Actually, it relates to a religious grouping, a subset of the Protestant faith, and thus the Celtic fan's usage of the term is sectarian, indeed more so than "fenian" which denotes an Irish rebel terrorist or warrior.

Is this yet another show of hypocrisy from you, Mr. Maximum? Surely discrimination against homosexuals is in the same category as the racism which you are constantly accusing John Reid of.
