Alot of Dundee fans are saying they want him in and Rae out.

If this happened would you be bothered to see him go and how do you think he would cope stepping up a division with a different team.

Yes i would be bothered! Some might not be though.......... John McGlashan is a good young manager and if he would bring in a striker on loan i would be happy enough!

With the right support i am sure John would be successful...........

McGlashan has served us well and could make the step-up.

Keep your mits off though. You appoint a fanny like Alex Rae - you are stuck with him!

Contrary to what a certain section of our support may argue, JMcG's done a fine job with us, and you only need cast your mind back to the state we were in prior to his appointment to see how far he's taken us over the past two or three seasons. He's not without his faults, and some of his decision making can still make a number of us scratch our heads at times, but that's very probably true of all managers to a greater or lesser extent.

I'm certainly keen for him to stay in charge for the foreseeable future, but I'm sure that Dundee could do far worse than to give him a chance at a higher level. Hope they don't though, and would be very suprised if they did to be honest.

McGlashan has been a great manager for us. After years of crap performances, crap signings, financial problems, and constant turmoil, he has given us stability. He likes a settled squad, so the core of the team has been the same for the last few years, with a few signings made to enhance it, rather than the constant upheaval we had before.

So he stabilised us, the supporters gave him time (something that we never gave Harry Cairney when we disgracefully hounded him out dry.gif ) to build a team, and he has delivered! It took him a while, and he has made mistakes, but he has learned from them and is definately a better manager than he was when he started.

I would be gutted if he left, but if a big full time club did come in for him (unlikely), then we couldn't really stand in his way.

He is a good person, met him a few times through my best mate. He works for barnardos driving the busses also. Would be good if he got the Dundee Job. Has did well with Arbroath and well its a step up for him and i believe he would do a good job

I have some time for John McGlashan. One underrated aspect seems to be his dealings with the media - analyses games and the situation quite well. But I think he's still untested even at this level. We've had amost three average years under his tutelage and they've been only fair to middling at best.

I'm amazed at this rumour - he'd be too big a gamble for a club like Dundee - since there are other proven lower league managers around with better records

I thought that it was Billy Dodds' name being banded about? That's if that ex Utd chap invests in Dundee.

It's inevitable that a manager who gets his team promoted and they hold their own in the higher league is going to become a target for bigger clubs (and Dundee tongue.gif ) when they are struggling. Would be a bit of a gamble on both fronts and I imagine Dundee will give Rae some more time anyway.

I would say that's possibly a bit harsh.

Like the majority of our support I've been somewhat underwhelmed with regard to the entertainment on show, something which he thankfully appears to have addressed this season to some extent, however he inherited a team in a degree of disaray and managed to clinch a play off spot in his first, less than full, season. His first full season then saw us get to within two games of winning our first title (let's cast a veil over our subsequent implosion come the reckoning), and he then led us to promotion via the play offs last year. Granted, this latter achievement only came about after a fairly miserable season where we just squeeked into 4th spot and were miles behind the top two, but them's the rules (I'm not a huge fan, but.....), so in that respect he's been succesful.

I understand the argument that finishing 4th in a 10 team division shouldn't be regarded as a huge acheivement, but his objective up until this season has surely been to clinch a play off spot and hopefully mount a challenge for the title, something he's proven himself adept at. Possibly my expectations are set fairly low, but I would regard his tenure as being a succesful one thus far.

Would have been nice to have been entertained a wee bit more along the way mind you.

It doesn't sound like the assessment are that divergent. You're summary shows that he's done OK but maybe no more than that. Whether you want to call that glass half-full or half-empty is mere semantics.

Given the revolving door of underperforming managers at Gayfield in the past 20 years (with only Baikie and Brownlie a success), i'd definitely judge McGlashan to be in the upper echelons of these ranks but not quite top notch yet - but many of them were poor so comparisons may be invidious. I did say I consider him an asset on several counts - he also lives locally.

He's young and I hope he can build his reputation at Gayfield.
