The signing of Gary Wales has made me slightly more confident but I am in no doubt that this will be our toughest test yet, hopefully we will have McGurn back and Smith will be fully fit. I don't expect Mark Campbell to play but Armstrong will do well in his place.

I dont think it'll be any harder than the game at Peehied, unless Campbell doesnt make it then I think we might struggle in defence. On the other hand Wales should add something up front

Surely not a goal threat? ohmy.gif

At least McGlynn's realised we're not as sharp upfront as we should be, the man's learning smile.gif

You never know...he might actually give Guerrero a game. Really pisses me off that, he played 5 minutes against Falkirk wearing white boots meaning he shall surely be blessed with brilliant pace (according to my mates philosophy), looks up every time he goes for a pass and looks a decent player....so we continue to play Silvestro who, is an ok player, but is the complete opposite. laugh.gif

We'd be clear at the top of the division if we had had a decent striker - scoring one or two goals from a hatfull of chances every game, while often opponents are scoring against us in their first attack, like against Alloa, Stirling and East Fife's in the second half.

We should be getting 3 goals at least on chances created, so heres hoping Wales changes that, starting on Saturday.

Aye, I'd like to see Guerrero given a shot too. The lad looks like he can pick a pass. Even if McGlynn gave him the last half hour on Saturday, see how he gets on.

It is a worry. I can't see us keeping a clean sheet against Brechin, so we'll have to score atleast a couple. Thing is, Smith can score them, it's just we don't look like threatening any other way.

That's true - Silvestro & Walker in the same midfield isn't required. I know Silvo is meant to be the holding midfielder but he does leave his position all too often, resulting in a gaping hole in front of our central defence.

Guerrero, Ferry, Walker, Silvo, Davidson, Sloan can all play centre mid. That's the biggest choice we have had for eons!

For the sake of Ferry's Rovers career, McGlyn must play him in the centre - the early fashioning of a scapegoat is being made by certain sections of our support whilst he flounders on the left (a favourite pastime of our fans for as long as I can remember).

We don't really have a naturally wide left player I don't think - was Pelosi just helping us fill the bench for one game?? If not, he should play there - Sloan is too pedestrian for that role.

So, yes, lets see what Guerrero can do. His reputation preceeds him considering we signed him on a recommendation from Prest and a 5 minute appearance ohmy.gif

I thought Sloan was excellent on the left against Alloa, I'd put him there with Ferry and Walker in the middle. The main problem we have just now is the lack of a right-sided midfielder due to Dunbar's injury. We've put Davidson out there the past couple of weeks - he can win high balls there but that's about it.

I certainly think Guerrero is worth a shot, McGlynn should give him the last half hour and see how he gets on.

Yes, Sloan can fill the left capably - it's just I think he offers more in the middle.

Davidson gives us the best defensive cover when deployed in the middle but Walker & Ferry, for me, should be there so he is either wide right or centre defence cover.

Oh, and the sig? Isn't East Fife bigger than us??!!!

This hasn't really been pointed out, but Davo has actually been playing ok despite being forced onto the wing. Puts more responsibility onto Wilson to overlap which begs the question why isn't Wilson a winger?

No chance. The ridiculous dives he gets away with in the premier league wouldn't happen down here. Imagine your Mark Campbell/Martyn Campbell/Bobby Mann going through him...he'd be scared shitless. This level of football is far more difficult to play in than the EPL. rolleyes.gif

I always look forward to the trip up to Brechin, a stop at Dundee pool with the kids on the way, almost always followed by a crackin' match after. A nice enough wee ground and *knock on wood* decent weather last few years. I rate Brechin as an opponent as they are well organized and play hard but clean. I think McGurn will be the difference if he's back as GaryO struggles mighty with balls in the box and BC will apply more pressure then most. Wales looks a promising signing which is even more to look forward to. 3-1 Rovers, Walker, Smith, and Wales. Here's hopin' rolleyes.gif

My opinion is why sign Guerrero if he isn't getting a game, it stands to reason that if he's so out of shape he shouldn't be here. I like Silvio, but he get's caught out of position far too much and can't pass a ball to save himself. On his day he is a solid midfielder and is good with the ball at his feet. But the end result doesn't really come off. I'd like to see Ferry and Walker in the middle, and Smith and Wales upfront with Weir just behind.

I'm not really impressed with Gary O' tbh, if we want to do something this season, we have to have the strongest team available. McGurn has to be restored as No1

We apparently don't have to pay his wages. Really would hope to see McGurn and Guerrero start on saturday.

I'd like to see that, especially McGurn. No offence to Gary O' but he isn't good enough for this level, he is capable with long range effort's but inside the box he does get nervous. If McGurn is still injured then so be it, just hope we do well on saturday.

Brechin will fancy there chances as they're still unbeaten, so confidence will be high.

Why? While I have no problem with him getting a 20 minute run out, I see no reason that would merit him starting. Silvestro on his day is good at stopping other teams playing, if the other team sits in, he is out of his depth when it comes to trying to distribute the play, but, have you considered that brechin are at home, are confident and will probably play quite far up the pitch? Surely the type of game where a spoiling midfielder would be useful?

Fair points. Just felt Silvestro hasn't really been his best recently, albeit he does make a large unseen contribution.

He hasn't been at his best because of the type of player he is, McG has us playing possession football, and lets face it, it's good to watch. Previous years have seen us lumping the ball to nippy wee shites on the wing, we were very much a counter attacking side and not much else, Davo and Silvio in the middle made good spoilers. Yet against EF, I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch, precisely becuase the men in yellow and black tried to come out and attack us.

Izried: I think prest is doing so in the hope that he'll come good, do a Novo and get a bigger club, while Prest makes a good percentage of any fee. Gurrero is an investment to Prest...

I'd like to see Wales start up front with Smith and Graham Weir out on the right. Him and Wilson out there will give most defences a torrid time in this league.

Would also like to see McGurn back in. I know McGlynn was criticised for switching goalies last season but McGurn is definitely no 1 and should be brought back in. Like others Gary O isn't playing too badly he just looks more prone to a lapse in concentration (saturday's pen for example).

This should be a good close game.

I heard he will be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury that requires surgery, just a rumour though rolleyes.gif

From The FFP:

QUOTE
The addition of Wales, and defender David Armstrong who has joined from Hearts on a one month loan, will help bolster what has been a thinning Rovers squad.

Gareth Wardlaw, Steven Hislop and Andy Tod are all out long term, while there is concern over the stability of Mark Campbell's much operated on knee.

"We don't have a lot of cover so this helps juggle players about," he said. "David's here for a month, and we'll see where we are at the end of that.

"Campbell's knee hasn't actually been repaired so we just have to hope it settles down and doesn't come back. It certainly gives us more strength in depth."

It doesn't say he's needing an operation, just that there is concern. Hopefully he doesn't need another one...
