He is on fire this season 8 goals already for wolves and i think he's missed a couple of games through injury. A hat - trick today and sent off for a head butt biggrin.gif . Should he be called up again? thoughts please?
Steven
Nope! He's no way good enough.......

Didnae read the whole thread mate but Wolves are top of the championship seems to be a step up again. Don't think it would hurt for George to have a swatch, overhead kick the lot today huh.gif .Maybe he's improved again.
BluebirdTon
No.

GeeJay
It certainly looks like he's good enough, he has probably scored more than all of our current strikers combined.
Wug
I'm a converted unbeliever. He scores goals, give him a chance.
Fudge
He doesn't look very Scottish, how does he qualify to play for us...................

He was born in Coatbridge! ohmy.gif wink.gif

Considering it is the same level Miller played at for 4 years or so for Wolves and McFadden and a few others are at, McCormack too now and Boyd was rumoured to be heading to Cardiff he can't be a bad bet for a call up during a friendly.

Wouldn't stick him in a qualifier squad, but I'd give him a chance during a friendly. If he is scoring in the Championship and born in Scotland he is worth a chance in a squad to see what he can do.
Andyboy
If the guy is on goalscoring form he should be called up, simple as.
Myers
Definately think he should be in the next squad, let him train with the players and see how he does.

central staggie
Would be good in a 4-3-3 formation...

Pretty sure he was fishing...
ICTChris
I wouldn't mind him getting a call-up.
DJP
For ages I have been saying no way, but with Boyd barely getting a kick of the ball at the moment, Miller hardly setting the world on fire, McFadden on a bit of a drout, O'Conner lucky to play 10 minutes a week etc... I think he deserves his call up. Holding his own in a strong Wolves squad, 8 goals for a club top of the English Championship.

I say call him up!

RE: Fudge - He doesn't look Scottish, I wonder if the original poster of that comment will reply to that laugh.gif

S. Carter
I think Ross McCormack should be called up before Iwelumo
dubs
Gie him a shout all our out and out strikers are mince at the moment.
GOALS!!

What kind o a comment is that???

He's born in Scotland, is the most on form SCOTTISH striker in the country at this moment and would add a number of things to Burley's squad that we don't have at this time, I.E. power, pace and a goal threat.

Bring him in for a couple of squads, blood him in friendlies and then lets see what's what.

I think both of them should get a call up. The Championship is a better standard than the SPL and both of these guys are scoring freely.

Incidently, how are guys like Michael Stewart and Kris Commons getting a call up before Ross McCormack? When did Stewart become a player?

doesnt that make him Irish? huh.gif
Sir Kevin Of Kilsyth
I think he should be caled up at least as a squad player. He is in outstanding goal scoring form in the championship - obviously international is a big step up but he has goals in him no doubt.

At 6'4 he would bring a different dimension to the side even if he was coming off the bench when we are pushing for a goal.

Echoing my posts on TAMB;

I've long asked for this guy to be called up. Wouldn't like to see him starting but he would provide something quite substantial to hit if we're looking for a goal and time is running out on us for instance. Or say if a team were denying us through middle, keeping it narrow or what have you. Skopje would be a prime and recent example.

I've been surprised by his early season form at Wolves, but it's irrelevant. It's not necessarily his ability in front of goal we would be looking for, you could obviously consider it a perk though. All I know is that with his power in the air and hold up skill he's an awkward customer for defences. He would provide, in himself, another dimension for Scotland.

QUOTE
I went to the B game Vs. the Republic of Ireland at the excelsior myself and I can assure you that he was, that night at least, a total class above the rest. He won his every header, held the ball superbly well and as a matter of fact, as a technical player; first touch, dribbling etc. he seemed quite honed. Displayed a great work-rate that evening also, he was never seen standing idly in the middle, he was always looking to get on the ball. Moving into channels, running across the defence. There was a lot of intelligence about his play too. In short - Iwelumo looked to have everything you would want in a target man. I was very, very impressed that evening.

All of the above said however I'm not at all fond of coming to conclusions on the evidence of B internationals, second string affairs and the likes. They're generally nothing like the real full blooded game of football where there's somewhat more on the line. I've since seen him on a number of occasions for Charlton & Wolverhampton in the championship and his displays then have only served to reinforce what I saw at Airdrie that evening.

I think it would be an injustice if he wasn't at least given an opportunity to prove himself in one of our friendlies, preferably in the immediate future. (First team of course).

FWIW I would have both Steven Fletcher & Ross McCormack on the fringes of the squad. Too much talent to be overlooked. Clever players.
Russ.

As far as I'm aware he's had a cracking start to the season.

He ran the midfield against us last week (whilst also scoring a peach of a goal) and he also got MoM at the weekend.
Virtual Insanity
Put simply, 8 goals in the Championship must make him the in form Scottish striker of a sufficient standard. I'd have him in the squad for the Norway game.

Even with his recurring problem he has?
Virtual Insanity
What's his recurring problem, anger management? On the incident on Saturday the Preston player has gone in to the ref to tell him nothing happened, otherwise I don't know much about his history, but he's 6'4 and scores goals at Championship level, I don't see how that can be completely overlooked.

That he's black.

Can Michael Stewart be any worse than Paul Hartley/Scott Brown?

I don't think it's possible.
The Arch
I think we should have a targetman, as one of our 5 attacking options. I'm not sure if Boyd really counts as a targetman, despite his height, considering he doesn't really hold up the ball.

This is a really childish way to look at it but considering Iwelumo's team is higher up the division than O'Connor's, he's started more games than O'Connor and scored more goals than O'Connor, maybe he should be ahead of O'Connor in the next squad. Atleast Iwelumo would definitely turn up, and his form is more impressive than that of Kris Commons, who Burley thought deserved a chance.
dubs
I'd much rather see us play a big guy inbetween Maloney and McFadden/Commons like we did against Iceland - of course this won't happen in the home game against Norway.
Shengus Khan
I don't see the harm in calling him up. We could certainly do with a bit of physical prescence up front. Plus with the vast array of shite that we have used in recent years, he certainly can't be any worse.
marooncraig
I'd also like to point out that Stewart and commons are getting called up before guys like McCormack because they play completely different positions.

Also Stewart has three goals from central midfield (more than any other midfielder in SPL and one more than Miller) andhas at least two MOMs. He more than earns his call up.
korphaeron
I haven't seen much personally, but judging from the positive reports from people in this thread, as well as the stone cold fact of 8 Championship goals this season, a call up to the squad to face Norway wouldn't be undeserved.

I used to love Iwelumo, of course he rarely or possibly never scored for Saints, but you could see he would be good, he reminded me of Ronaldo at the time, id love to see him called up, he is the kind of guy we need and havent had up front for years.

We tend not to pick black players though, i think we have had a couple of brown ones before, so maybe he is in with a chance.
Fizzy Gillespie
The SFA is endemically racist, which is why Iwelumo has been wrongly overlooked for the past decade.
Fizzy Gillespie
Oh and Marrez already said it, black guys are allowed... but only as long as they aren't too black (being English is also a bonus here).

He got away with it, when we first looked at him, he said he had just had a fortnight in Spain, when they realised it wasnt just a tan, he was shot out the squad again.

yeah but he's english, so that bumps him up the pecking order a bit.
Owsley
I've been eager to see Iwelumo called up since he began banging them in for Colchester two seasons ago in the Championship. He has more skill and technical ability that Boyd that's for sure. McCormack should get a chance too but I'd never pick O'Connor again, he doesn't want to travel to places like Ukraine and Macedonia so deliberatley gets suspended or fakes an injury. He's done nothing for years anyway.

G_Man1985
Yup give him a chance
gav-ffc
He cant be called uo because well you know......

He doesnt play for Rangers or Celtic or he would be automatically called up.
drs
Darius Henderson should be in the squad ahead of Iwelumo.
flyingscot
So he got a call up for Norway....

Agreed. Iwelumo played at Dens in pre-season and didn't really stand out IMO.
Fudge
Although McCormack has 7 goals, 4 have been penalties, so his record is not that impressive at all.
ohphuq
Good call up imo, he's definitely on form at club level. Norway have a big physical squad, I'm not saying make the game an aerial battle but a player with his strength is a welcome addition.
gav-ffc
He wont get on the pitch like Fletcher.
IXI THE ONE IXI
He's on SS1 just now, seems like a good guy, and some of the goals he is scoring he looks exactly the type of player Scotland needs. Looks like a Kris Boyd that actually tries.
