Stevo Fife
Having dropped 2 valuable points away from home last week against mediocre yet pretentious opposition, can the Fife turn things around and get a win at Alloa?

Hmmm

Stevo prediction - Alloa 2-2 East Fife

Al-oha are very much our bogey side. I have never saw us win through at the Recs but bogeys are there to be picked (and sometimes eaten) and forgotten about.

Here's hoping the players have their best picking fingers on and we can start to pick up some much needed points.

Like yourselves, we aren't exactly setting the heather on fire, and if we leak goals like we did on Saturday ( 2 deflections didn't help) then I see no reason why you won't be eating your greens!! smile.gif

That apart, we hope the gaffer will have learned a few things from Saturday's outing and put these to right.

Should be an interesting encounter. huh.gif

Should be a tough game, we always struggle at Recreation Park. I don't think I've ever seen us win there either.

Still, Alloa are stuggling a bit but I can't see that lasting throughout the season so hopefully they won't improve for a while yet. We've been drawing too many games so this is one we should be looking to win.

Hopefully, Linn and Fagan will be on from the start and we have a right good go at them. smile.gif

We're due Alloa a leathering, the amount of times i've watched them hump us (in the days of Martin Cameron mostly), definately a bogey team and i'm not sure i've ever seen us beat them. Think I can remember 2 draws, 1 at old Bayview in our last season there, and 1 at the Recs when Paul Mortimer scored for us (these details might not be 100% accurate as i've had a few pints since then).

That record of never seeing us beat Alloa will continue this weekend, as i'll not be there. I don't think our current squad will, or should be worried about seasons gone by though. I'm putting my neck on the line and saying 4-1 to the Fife.

McManus, Templeman, Linn, Crawford.

Ten games and 15 years since East Fife last beat us. Having said that one of the games in that time was a draw in the final game of the 1993-94 season that condemned us to the newly formed third division, I suspect the draw may have ensured that East Fife would start the next season in the second but they may have already been safe. God, I thought I had managed to expunge the nightmare years under Billy Lamont from my memory.

We really need to start picking up points but if the team looks as disjointed as it did against Stirling, and if the defence continues to throw in stupid goals we will struggle to take anything from this game. Mind you, I remember a game against East Fife at New Bayview where Marc Donachie put in a man of the match performance so I guess anything is possible.

Finally, it will be nice to see that cheating prick Willie McCulloch make a return to the Recs, ten years after he dived clutching his face to get Mark Cowan sent off at the old (sorely missed) Bayview.

I remember that game. I think it was one of my first ever away games. You're right, we needed a point to get into the 2nd division. I remember running onto the pitch at the end and getting lifted up by Dougie Hope. laugh.gif

Willie McCulloch is a legend. And yes, Old Bayview is missed. sad.gif

If its the same Mark Donaghy we had (circa 1995/96) he was a good midfielder for us.

Remember Alloa signed Gilbert Allan too, and never ever played him. He was amazing for us.

That's the one, it looks like I've misremembered the spelling of his name. He was fairly anonymous for us with his one outstanding performance being the one at New Bayview where we raced into a 4-0 lead with Donaghy pulling the strings for Willie Irvine and Martin Cameron to grab the goals. You'll be pleased to hear we certainly don't have a Cameron or an Irvine any more.

I've got about as much enthusiasm for this game as an HBOS shareholder at the moment.

Last week really was depressing. All the old defensive failings which we had hoped had gone were back. Play like that this Saturday and East Fife will have a stroll in the park. I dont know why we're not playing better than we are. We should have a stronger squad than last season but it hasnt worked out like that. In saying that we have to start a decent run sometime so maybe this is the week.

I remember a game that same season when Alloa beat us 5-1 at the Recs and Mark Cairns the Alloa keeper was voted MOTM! Alloa had 5 shots at goal & we had 15 all bar the goal Cairns actually saved!
Also mind a game in the 80s a midweek game & we were 1 nil down in injury time but got a free kick on the edge of the box. As it was about to be taken, Andrew Waddell sent off Stuart Burgess for something or another. The free hit the bar & fell for Stevie Kirk to blast home as Ronnie Lowrie stood & watched from 2 feet away! Cue many GIRUY celebrations & a wee altercation with the AYT or YAT or whatever the local neds were called! Happy days

I was at that game too and was right behind the goals. I seem to remember it was Spider that got his marching orders though, not Cowan. Like 'The Russian', a few units of alcohol have been partaken since then, so I could be mistaken.

I also recall one game when mad mental Wullie Broon wanted to get in amongst the Alloa fans at a corner for us because he couldn't take the slagging. What's happened to him? Carstairs???

Do agree with you about Bayview being sorely missed.

It was definately Cowan. My dad and brother and I were pretty late getting into that game and Alloa had just scored when we got onto the terrace. We thought it was 1-0 for ages until we found out East Fife had scored pretty much right before we did.

As for this Saturday we cant be too hopeful given the shocking performance at Forthbank at the weekend. At the same time we have a good collection of players, better than most in this league IMO, and surely they will start to perform soon. Maybe this will be the game that things start to go for us.....

And he would have taken you all as well, he was a fuckin' nutter, fuckin' brilliant but a fuckin' nutter all the same!!!

I remember him inviting the entire Cowdung support to a "square go" as well once, during a game at Old Bayview and they all shat it and ran away!!! laugh.gif

Bit of irony perhaps after the Raydale saga that the East Fife support will be the first to use the Recs gazebo. Any further word on new stand/terracing for New Bayview? Maybe Mike Mulraney can give the East Fife directors some tips biggrin.gif .

Going by the predicitions thread on the EF site the away fans are very confident, talk of a 5-1 or 6-1 victory.

Not really. They're probably just trying to cover all bases to get more points!!

Having said that, it's no good when you predict your own team to lose, you've gotta keep the faith!

Wullie Brown was a real character and you just don't get players like that nowadays. He always enjoyed the craic at the Recs and gave as good as he got. Always a hoot and wish he played for us.
Not hopeful of a win tomorrow. Probably 0-2 with Crawford geting his goal. Everybody in a crisis scores at the Recs.
