Callum Smith will I imagine be gutted! This was a disgrace. Callum came on last week and scored the 2 goals that won us the game after not being in the starting 11 for ages. This player deserved to start. There should be no arguement about that. I too cannot believe we have Paton back. Callum is and IMO has always shown himself to be the better and more clynical striker of the 2 even though he hasn't played that much. I think this is an injustice to this young lad and we had better be careful we don't lose him. He must be sickened! The Manager has built up his hopes in the press only to destroy them in one fell swoop. I for one cannot understand this. As I have said before, you have to build a players and teams confidence. I just don't see the point in having Paton when we have a number of good strikers already at the club?
Is Murie injured? He had a really good game last week.

Thought I was seeing things when I read Paton was playing But read your post Steven and that confirmed it.

At last some agreement. I don't want people to read my comments and feel I am trying to single out Paton, the fact is it would have been the same had he signed any other young striker on loan. I have read in various articles about C. smith not being the finished article, of course he isnt he is 20 years old and players are learning all the time. But no one is honestly going to come on here and say Paton is the finished article. Lets face it should we not be developing our own youngster who wants to play for us, rather ran bringing in an even younger striker to give him some experience so he can either go back to aberdeen and play or get a club elsewhere. I just don't see the point. Muire was not injured from what I seen during the warm up. Agree with previous comments Seeley won everything in the air but looked a bit shakey at the back, that said I still think hes a decent player.

Still think we need a decent striker as Williams is struggling right now and Gormless just isn't a player. Easily worse than Stuart Boyd, in fact, I'd go as far as to say I'd rather have Wardlaw back.

You have GOT to be joking

Did it not occur to you that we were getting more joy up and around the box when Gormley came on? The guy is the strongest out of any of our strikers and that strength allows him to hold the ball slightly longer to let others support and/or get into positions. Just because he hasnt scored yet doesnt mean he doesnt bring anything to the team when he comes on.

Sometimes I wonder if im actually wayching the same sport
davidkennedyshand
I concur with Jeffs assesment of Gormley.

He may not have the finishing ability of Williams but has a far better football brain and his link up play is a lot better than Ecks.

To compare him with Stuart Boyd is bizarre. We looked more dangerous when he came on both in the Brechin and Stranraer games.

Cross between a computer geek and Carlos Cuellar, yes.

I thought he had a touch of the Andy Murray about him.

With regards Gormley, I've been impressed but would like to see how he performs over 90 mins.

Can the City fans here stop jumping to conclusions? I'm sure O'Neill has had a long chat with Smith and at this point in time, Paton is a better player than Smith and so he's in the team instead.

It would be pretty ridiculous to loan him for a month only to have him on the bench.

It's unfortunate for Smith but I have full confidence in O'Neill to give Smith his chance in the starting 11 in the future.

I think its ridiculous to to loan him at all because that is the one department we are well covered in. Paton is nowhere near as good a striker as Smith. Unless Paton has worked extremely hard on his finishing. They are both still young and learning their trade but Paton is obviously going to develop faster by playing more games, if smith is given more starts I'm confident he will improve quicker.

and Diack and Twigg are better than both of them. Both Paton and Smith have potential, and they both have very different styles of play. Its ridiculous to say that 'starts' determine a players devlopment rate, as any minutes on the field will help. I do feel that Paton is more suited to starting a game though, and Smith is more effective coming off the bench and giving 130% for 20-30mins than his 110% he could give for 90.

I personally think Paton is better than Diack and Twigg too.

Paton isn't a better player than Smith. The only department that Paton is better in is pace, which admittedly has most defenders breathing out their arse after 5 minutes.

For what it's worth I don't think Smith has been affected badly by this. Sure he'll be dissapointed but if you just watch him and the substitutes at half time his morale is still high and I'm sure he will continue to work hard for a first team slot.

Diack and Twigg are twice the players of Paton.

Smith is a better player than Paton. I agree with you there but I know someone who works beside Smith and I can assure you that this young player is gutted about this and why shouldn't he be. He did more than enough to at least start the game and I know a few supporters who, like myself, cannot understand why we have Paton on loan when we clearly do not need the cover up front! Why do we have him? Callum has never been given a proper chance. He had a run in the team playing up front with Chucky last season and they did really well together. Now, I realise that the Manager had injury problems at that time and some strikers do not work well together but Callum not being given his due start last Saturday was not right.

Only if Stuart Boyd had a club foot, only then would a comparison with Gormley be fair. Gormley makes Bilsland, Kean and Wardlaw all look like players. Typical Ayr fans, strikers who run around all day doing hee haw win plaudits, guys who bang the ball into the net with regularity and offer not a lot else, get panned. On Sunday, Gormley dived in for balls after the defender had cleared it, the only danger he presented was to defenders ankles, the onion bag was never in any danger.

Bilsland..the powers got to your head Shanter.
However you dodged the point in typical politician style about us looking more dangerous when he came on as his link up play is decent.

Do you mean Williams is being slated?I think he needs a couple of weeks rest as he looks like he hasn't fully recovered from his injury.

No point dodged at all Mr Kennedy-Shand, I thought my statement about the onion bag never being in danger, meant that we didn't look at all dangerous when Gormley came on. He reminded me of Wardlaw in that they both share the ability of not being able to read the game and they both have the reactions of a mongoose, unfortunately it is a mongoose which appears to have had a stroke.

In summary, he's shite.

I can confirm Tam did indeed play the game and was in the same team as myself a few times.
He supplied a fair amount of eh dig in the midfield..or he was just a dirty hacking kant i was never sure. However he was never as cynical as Reynard. He just blatantly booted the opponents silky players at least Shanter tried to disguise it as a tackle.

Just got back down South after taking in the game and some family stop offs on the way home.

Draw was the fair result I thought, City were very well organised and had the chances before half time to kill the game off but didn't have their shooting boots on.

Cracking turn and shot onto the post before the headed goal from Twigg.

Excellent strike for the equaliser to, although from where I was stood (on the side pretty much level with the Ayr player) Nelson reacted a bit late, (Perhaps unsighted?).

2nd half saw Ayr have most of the possession and a few reasonable chances but I wasn't ever that worried that City wouldnt get something from the game.

As for that last minute miss....

Thought Ayr's no11 was a donkey who was one footed and struggled to control the ball with that one, and that the no 15 when he came on gave Ayr something different and impressed me.
