Top of the table clash (although since its played Sunday that could all change before the game)
no thread up yet for this game
Whats everyones thoughts on this one? I'll go for a 2-1 Ayr win (with Ayr going 3 points clear at the top on Sunday evening)

Fancy Ayr to have a 3-2 win, which reminds me, must check the odds.
2-2 would do me

2-0 Brechin with goals from Twigg ( as he's due one) and Nimmo. Somerset has been a good venue for us in recent years. This will be a tough Ayr side to beat though.

What a strange phrase that is. I had no idea that money really could talk. I mean you hear people saying 'money talks', but I always thought it was just a phrase. I wonder if money can communicate via other mediums. Mmm, it appears that a £2 coin has just written down that £100 was talking shite earlier on. Bloody heck, they can

In recent years, Somerset has been a very easy place for most teams to come to, but we're finally starting to show some form at home, and anything less than 3 points at home will be a disappointment for me.

Me for one, if I was a gambling man

. We've only kept two clean sheets out of nine games this season.. I'm on 2-1 for Ayr, but as I have said every game so far, I wouldn't be surprised if Brechin turned us over.
Oh how the rest of the league must look up at both Ayr and Brechin with admiration for their respective good starts.

im under no illusions that this will be a very very hard fixture. Weve struggled against you guys in the past few years so maybe this is a chance to change that.
However Brechin also have two strikers id not turn away from somerset in Twigg and Harty. Do you also still have that young midfielder from last year (name escapes me) who was very tidy indeed with the ball? He may even have been on loan??
I just fancy that this game will be a completely different prospect to anything weve faced thus far, league-wise.

Harty doesn't play for Brechin, do you mean Diack? As for the young midfielder, I'm not sure who you are talking about. Darren Smith is a very good player on the ball but he's our captain and is no youngster either.
Somerset Park has been a happy hunting ground for us in recent years. Only lost once there in the last 6 meetings. Hopefully we get a positive result from this one.

Don't know what young midfielder you could be talking about the only youngsters we had at the time were Calum Smith, Michael Paton and Nicky Walker. So it must be one of them you are thining about. Walker was the only midfielder out of those thought. I expect Twigg and C.Smith to score against Ayr so unless Ayr get 3 goals, I think we will get at least a point

I think it will be a very tight affair, like the first game against the Rovers.
Think that with Prunty`s scoring form, he will get the one and only goal of the game.
If Campbell is in from the start, can`t see Brechin breaking us down.
In recent games, we have been up 2-0 and cruising, took the foot off the gas, and lost a goal.
Don`t see us being 2-0 up early on Sunday!
Tight, well matched, well played 1-0 win to the Honest Men.

i expect it to be tight, but high scoring as well... if darren smith doesn't make it then that'll be a big blow to us, but we do have a very strong midfield and a lot of players capable of getting goals

haha, yes plenty of crossed wires for me on this front, i of course meant Diack, and i believe the "young" midfielder i was thinking of was Darren Smith. Apologies as i thought the guy was a youngster.
Regardless, my point stands that this will be a difficult game but hopefully more so for Brechin

like yer gonna beat Stirling
seriously though, a draw against a team who i recon will be our main rivals this season probably wouldnt be the worst result we could ask for, but were at home, in the best form that weve been in years, so we really have to be looking for a win.
As someone already said, as long as we dont go 2 goals up, then we'll be fine

Ambitious. Call of the game...we all want a 0-0 draw! I'd happily see a 0-0, we face a difficult trip to Brechin next week which we can win providing our threadbare squad doesn't cave in. Then a few weeks later we've got Ayr at home which will be a critical game providing we've come through unscaved. This league is cracking though...nice to see so many teams in with a shot of winning it.

I would've bitten your hand off for a draw at the start of the game so can't complain coming away unbeaten and still top. We were the better side to begin with but Brechin really turned the screw and had two great chances before we uncharacteristically lost a goal from a corner. Big Martyn Cambell and Scott Walker rarely lose the ball in the air but they were nowhere to be seen for Brechin's goal.
Second half was fantastic entertainment, we played some very open football and rained shots in on goal but were foiled by poor finishing, good goalkeeping and great defending. And after all that we had the keeper to thank for a tremendous save right at the death.
Lots of tough games coming up for us now, if we get through the next month with 8 or 9 points i'll be a happy man.
davidkennedyshand
Sep 21 2008, 16:33
A point was a fair enough result considering we could have been 3-1 down at half time.
However the 2nd half was good.Played some decent football and kept the ball well.
Like i said on HP though Brechin looked as though they could nab one on the break and Grindlays pouint blank save kept us in it late on.
On the balance of it i think both teams will be happy with the draw.
Nocturnal Groove
Sep 21 2008, 16:37
First 40 minutes we were woeful, Brechin were all over us, and should have been a few goals up. One moment of magic from Stevo though and the game turned round completely.
Second half it was Brechin who were all over the place, but we just couldnt find our way to the back of the net.
overall id say that a share of the points was a fair reflection on a poor game.
