ok so all the mortally wounded plastic tims are up in arms over a song, sorry one tim who managed to get the whole country talking, anyway my point is this, in the song it suggests that now the famine is over plastic tims accross the land can feel free to go home, let me explain, if i hated the British Isles, the British Army, The Royal Family and anyone who didn't subscribe to my particular political persuasion i think i would want to go home rather than bleat on about how down trodden i was, so where is the offence in suggesting this?

I don't think it's especially wrong to suggest to people who aren't happy in Scotland that they might want to consider emigration.

I think singing the Famine song, though, is absolutely appalling.

An awful large number of Rangers fans give the impression that they're not very happy with their lot on this sceptre'd isle these days, what with everything being controlled by "the cowardly hand of unseen forces" and the whole place run by jumped-up taigs who don't know their place. Do you think we should suggest to the RST et al that they might prefer to set sail for distant shores? rolleyes.gif

'Absolutely appalling' would be reserved for incidents like the slaying of Damian Muir in lovely Greenock. Not singing a song.

Don't over egg the pudding here with faux outrage, this 'won't somebody please think of the children!' routine by this tim contacting the Irish embassy is embarrassing considering the glorification of the IRA which a massive majority of his fellow supporters love to craw about.

Oh come on. That's not what I meant at all. I'm not talking about "love it or leave it" - I'm saying that if someone feels that where they live is SO far gone that they can't influence it and it's not going to improve, or they can think of somewhere else better to live, it's not exactly out of the question to say, well, why not?

I say this as someone who will be emigrating in the next couple of years, by the way.

I think you're overegging the pudding by setting up some false dichotomy between this song and a disgusting crime, and I think that basically telling an ethnic group that they're not welcome is "absolutely appalling."

Let's remember, this song isn't "If you're unhappy with your lot, why not move?". It's a triumphalist, "YOU'RE IRISH SO f**k OFF" song. It is absolutely appalling.

The song doesn't go "If you don't like this place, why don't you go home?" That's completely contrary to the lyrics. It lists the numerous ways in which the Irish are dreadful people rolleyes.gif and then says Why don't you go home in a rhetorical, not inquisitive manner.

Actually the examples that Bain raised where (tacitly) the Novo song, and the Ibrox disaster songs - neither of which are BOTOB.

If there is inconsistency in how such things are dealt with then perhaps his club could raise the issue rather than letting the foamers at the RST do it, as they will never be taken seriously.

When have I ever quoted NBM?
If I have an agenda its an agenda to be quite literal and reasonable amid the general filth and stupidity of your various bigot hordes.
The majority of people are happy to have Irish immigrants in Scotland. The majority of people in Scotland have little time for sectarianism. You're absolutely right. Going by church attendance (which is the only way to measure a religion) Catholics are the greatest group currently. There's reasons for this, but it's undeniable. If all the "Protestant" Glasgow Rangers fans actually attended the church they claim to belong to, things would be different - the Huns only have themselves to blame.

A Belfast based Rangers supporters tonight highlighted that 'Huns' is used and always has been used by Catholics as a derogatory term for Protestants. It can be argued that 'Hun' is not sectarian but then again Fenian is certainly not a purely sectarian term and Rangers have been told it must not be used in ANY song. The point he was making was Kilmarnock supporters were singing 'No Huns in Europe' which according to NBM would be a sectarian song. Do you think the SPL will be taking action?
