Whilst I hope Villa finish in the top 4 (sad sign of the modern times when you want a club to finish top 4) and like Carew and generally speaking, wouldn't wish injury upon him but.... As we are without McManus for this clash, I hope that injury from last night rules him out for the game v us. Anybody know the extent of the injury yet?

You make that sound like it's a bad thing.

I don't mind the player to be honest. Must be doing something right to be captain of the league champions. Plenty of experience at European level as well. I can only assume Broadfoot will play centre back with Hutton hopefully back? Whilst I understand people will be screaming for Barr, I would rather see and tried and tested player. (Broadfoot playing under the spotlight most weeks, European experience @ club level etc... gives him the nod).
Since heard, Carew probably only out for Villa's UEFA cup match

Both are miles better than Broadfoot. Infact both of them would do better than McManus

I can't really speak for Barr - don't see him enough - but if Berra was to go to either of the Old Firm he'd be made a scapegoat in no time. Very average player, take off the Anti Old Firm blinkers.

Ive not got anti old firm blinkers. Broadfoot just isnt good enough. Mcmanus in my opinion makes to many mistakes. I think Caldwell has proven recently to be our best centre half.
McManus is a very good centre half, who would easily cope playing Premiership football. He is at least on a par with David Weir, who was one of Everton's best players in the time he was there.

Why are they playing with dross teams then? (relatively speaking)
Broadfoot has been slated throughout his St Mirren and Rangers careers and yet he keeps proving everyone wrong. I say good luck to the guy, hes done well to get himself where he is.
Darren Barr has absolutely no chance of being a Scotland regular, face facts.

I cant see why he cant be a regular. Scotland dont have any great centre halfs the now. Barr will get a move soon. Theres also Reynolds at Motherwell. Hes a good player aswell hes worth a shout aswell

It's a shame we don't have McManus vs Norway, we'll need someone good in the air to mark Carew.
I'd rather see Barr at center back ahead of Berra or Reynolds any day! I don't think Broadfoot would be bad, he's not as bad as a lot of people make out and he'll be full of confidence right now.
Anyway, I reckon David Weir will partner Caldwell vs Norway if he's fit, with Hutton hopefully back too.

Weir won't play for Scotland again imo, he will leave the National scene shortly because a blue nose isn't in charge. Although him and Caldwell would be the partnership I would have choosen with Mick out.

What makes you say that? I don't see what that would have to do with anything.
He played for Everton for all those years with David Moyes (a former Celtic player and probably a Celtic fan) in charge, so what's the difference?

Moyes is/was a rangers fan. And weir will be gone soon, because he's too old and too slow to play for Rangers never mind Scotland.

McManus is a good defender, but he's hardly a guy on any thing resembling good form. Hope that Berra starts, it makes sense that he will, as he was included in the Scotland squad before either Broadfoot or Weir were.
Anyways on topic, it would definitely be helpful if Carew missed out. He's the kind of guy that can give any defence a torrid time.

He left the team when we needed him under Vogts, and came back when Watty was in charge. He never pulled out of a game under him or McLeish and now look......

You do have anti Old Firm blinkers. Berra is a very average player, and that's from someone who's quite possibly watched him in every competitive game that he's played.

Anyone know how Anderson is doing at Burnley? I heard he had a great second half of the season at Plymouth but I don't watch or follow the Championship so I have no idea other than what other people tell me.
If Carew plays against us we need someone who can compete physically with him and out of the current crop of defenders with who've played for Scotland Lee Wilkie is possibly the only one capable of doing that.

Yes and he hasn't been on form (he did apparently have a good game against Hibs but I wasn't there so can't judge) but that doesn't stop him being the best header of the ball out of the current Scotland centre backs who have international experience. I don't think Wilkie would deal particularly well with Carew but at least he'd be able to win a header against him which all the other potential players would struggle to do considering the size of Carew.
I think it's time to find out if James Sharpe has any Scottish grandparents.
