Lets be honest here. Raith looked a very good team. Shame about the injury, any news?. The fife were never at the races today and we might of well just never bothered to turn up in the first half. Penalties well...both were pens and both good saves by willie.

We were lucky to get out of there with a point but that wasn't anywhere near what we can do, which is a possitve i think.

Looking good for next week.

Mon the fife !

Nice generous post. You didnt say anything about the ref either.
Big Fifer
I think overall Rovers probably did deserve the points.

The ref didn't really help us, but when you think about it, how bad does the team have to be for all you can think about being the ref's decisions. With the money we've spent and the money we're currently spending on wages(I'm assuming itas high), we should be winning these games by a country mile.

Felt East Fife suffered from a wrong team selection - the lack of pace and mobility in midfield meant Raith picked up all the loose balls. The Ref did not give East Fife a fair deal un believable that no action was taken against O'Connor and to miss the late bad tackle on Crawford was inexcusable.

I'm assuming that ever single one of the Raith fans that have commented so far are being sarcastic about Martin Charleston.

This guy is one of the worst refs I've ever seen.

After the second penalty I thought we might as well have just given the points to Wraith. It wasn't just the penalties though, it was the little decisions in the midddle of the park that he was getting wrong time and time again. He surely must have a personal vendetta against EF.

Oh and by the way, Crawford should have buried that sitter!!!!!!!!

To be honest the first penalty was never a penalty, but can't be sure about the second as we were on the other side but it looked a bit over dramatic!
I Personally think they were both soft but it doesnt matter anyway cos they were missed. East fife performance in the first half was the worst ive witnessed this season. I was really nervous about today cause i thought we would struggle but i was proved wrong. It was unfortunate for us that smith didnt play due to injury cos im sure we would have been toasting a raith victory today if he had. If i was an East Fife fan i would be worried as you have no pace at the back , i couldnt believe the size of forthingham . Up front you do pose a threat, unlike us we just cant score which will cost us dearly in the long run. The ref didnt have a bad game your team did, they didnt turn up until the last 20 mins . Mc culloch was the mom he saved your ass so many times,

Ah now to your chairman Mr Gray ! What an idot , He was bursting out of his belltent shirt waving his scarf in the air look at me boys . Your the chairman of a football club start acting like one, Show a bit of respect for your club and the opposing club. Running his mouth off in the tabloids there this !there that, He should be concentrating on East Fife and not the Rovers. The Fife still couldnt win with a promise of a big fat bonus, And quote a team full of junior/ amateur signings tut tut Mr Gray let your team do the talking and not your big fat mouth cos you can talk the talk but your not walking the walk. ur team wont be so lucky next time. Stick to what your best at buying and selling other peoples shit.

I think it was a simmilar decision to our penalty. He booked the keeper but because there wasno intent he didn't get a red. O'Connor nevergot sent off because there was no intent to handle outside the box. A yellow would probably have been fair but he took a lenient view of both keepers fouls.

It takes a remarkable degree of ineptitude to miss not one but two penalties.

And I assume the Rovers fans' comments about WG wasting his money on players are borne out of a sense of disappointment at the lack of benefit their own club's investment in the referee produced.

There can be no explanation other than simple bribery that accounts for his completely one-sided collection of decisions today.

Now i see why East fife have been struggling its the refs its the refs. Blame the refs. Even 2 of your own fans have noticed your short comings and didnt mention once about ref. Dont try and cover up a poor performance by blaming a ref accept whats happened and get on with it and except your team just didnt play today. Just be glad we didnt take all our chances and that you have gained a point.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth. Was worried about the midfeild before kick off as Fozzy and Greig McDonald have no pace. Don't know why Lloyd Young wasn't playing in there. With McManus left isolated up front and trying to win the ball in the air against Campbell we looked like being outplayed but Raith didn't create many clear cut chances. Weir should have done much better by hitting the target when he came in from the right. Thought the first penalty was a bit soft but TBH Weir should have had an earlier penalty when Tweed was late with a challenge. Great bit of gamesmanship by Crawford made it look as though he was telling McCulloch which way to go and maybe made the taker change his mind.
Second Half, again we were on the back foot initially and when the Ref awarded the second penalty I feared the worst. Thought Wardlaw made a meal of it but the fact he was going across the box was the reason McCulloch wasn't sent off. Again he guessed right and made a good save. The game started to open up and go from end to end. Fozzy was a bit fortunate with the goal as it seeemed to be kicked against him and flew forward into the net with O'Connor not having the chance to move. A great delivery from a corner was met by the head of Ellis who put the ball away well.
Once we moved McDonald back to right back and put Linn wide left and brought Fagan on we at last started to play the ball on the deck and for the first time Stevie Crawford was much more involved and linking play. Rovers were unlucky when Weir hit the post and we then proceeded to miss twice from inside the six yard box within a couple of seconds.
To sum up, Raith look a decent side who will definitely be in the mix at the end of the season if they avoid too many injuries and suspensions. They looked sharper and passed the ball better. We looked much better after the substitutions and hopefully Shields and Fagan can start to provide more clearcut chance for the strikers. On another day we could have lost heavily, but with a little luck, great team spirit and a fantastic vocal support we took a point from one of the most difficult away fixtures we'll face. Look forward to the next Derby as the atmosphere was great.
All the best to Gareth Wardlaw - hope he returns soon.

First of all, I would like to say well done to both sets of supporters for creating a fantastic derby atmoshphere!

I feel this was 2 points dropped, but ah well, I would have taken the draw after they scored! Not much else to add, I thought we had the edge on quality, whilst East Fife fought really well.

We hammered them in the first half/first 10 mins of the second half, after which they really came into it.

Great game though, proper derby.

Oh and Willie Gray made an absolute tit of himself today.

Oh, and if anyone saw somebody running down the entire South Stand after our goal, that was me! laugh.gif

Firstly, great to have a real derby game again.
Raith were on top for the first period, no question. In the second-half we ground ourselves back into it and Raith were flagging at the end.
Off the pitch; nae contest as usual. We dominated for 90 minutes.
Raith will be happy with their point but it's not a sprint, it's a snickers... rolleyes.gif
fifepup
I thought today's game was a great advert for Fife football, and 1-1 was probably a fair result overall. We squandered as many chances as Raith, and it was a nailbiting last 10-15 minutes for both sets of fans. A competetive game at cup-tie pace. I don't think Raith dominated, but I'll admit they were a bit more composed on the ball.

We are still gelling as a team unfortunately. This game maybe came a week or two too early for us.After a poor start, we are looking better and better each week, and if that's the toughest test we will face then I'm hopeful. It should give Baikie a bit of encouragement.

That ref was never going to give us feck all. He had a shocker. Twat.

Fantastic game, fantastic atmosphere and fair result. This game had it all, and if the next one is half as good then i can't wait! A cracker of a derby game.
Raith were by far the better side for the first 55 mins. They looked fitter and quicker and got the tactics spot on. Play the high ball over the midfield, and by f**k didn't it work a treat. McGlynn obviously noted we have snails for defenders, yet that being said, Raith (apart from the penalties) didn't really penetrate. We came into it the moment the substitutions were made and Linn was the man who made the difference. Raith looked jaded and out of ideas towards the end and to be quite honest we could have stole it but that would have been harsh. Crawford had a very good game.
Hate being critical of any of our players, but Baikie took the 2 off who were struggling, and it has to be said, Nugent is a liability of a player but thats just my opinion.
McCulloch had a stormer and easily man of the match.
Overall, delighted with the point as i felt we done enough in the second half.
Not the best of home support it has to be said. I expected a lot more.
Ref was average. Didn`t think the first penalty was a good call and can't comment on the 2nd as too far away.

Summary = Cracker of a derby cool.gif

Agree with your post, apart from that Stevo. Minus the penalty in the first half, we had three one on one opportunities - Wardlaw, Weir and Ferry (where he arsed around and allowed a tackle). We were very good in the first half, and should certainly have been at least two up at the break.

Second half was more even, but I felt we just about edged it. No real clear cut chances for ourselves admittedly, but goalmouth scrambles aplenty, we hit the post and McCulloch made a few very good saves.
St. Starko
First of all, i loved the game. It had atmosphere, tension, excitment and a lot of fight from the players.

Second, Wullie Gray really showed his mental age today. I actually feel sorry for the East Fife fans who have their club run by such a immature person. Really is dangerous ground.

Third, it feels like a loss. We once again didn't take our chances and the penalties...well it just fucking hurts tbh. However, that's the way it is and no matter who we were playing, by missing all those chances it was inevitable that the opposing team would start getting a bit of confidence and producing chances themselves.

It feels like 2 points dropped and maybe it is, but the truth is EF could have taken all 3 back to Methil when they hit the post and Stevie Crawford? whacked the ball over the bar from 3 yards.

As for East Fife...mid table obscurity awaits them. Whether Wullie invests another year of his "hard earned cash" is another story.

I think we really missed Smith today. He's a good finisher and picks up the scraps and puts them away.

O Connor isn't good enough, but the goal conceded was not really saveable.
Wilson was superb. I have not seen him take on players and beat them that much is months.
Campbell was solid as usual but was at fault for the goal imo.
Ellis was solid and scored a great goal.
Cook although still adapting to this level was very good.
Silvestro was his normal bulldog self and battled hard
Davo saved our asses a few times and had a good game. But he's NOT a captain! No encouragement to his team the whole game!
Ferry played much better than he has all season. Really got stuck in and had a great game.
Walker looked a bit quiet today and didn't get totally involved. Maybe needs a kick up the ars?
Weir battled hard and although i say this most weeks, he deserved a goal.
Wardlaw was fantastic and really looked like he would get a goal till his painful injury sad.gif
Bryce didn't do an awful lot and Tam wasn't really on long enough.

Good crowd from East Fife....although you did get the feeling it was their cup final. They played ok, but with the highest wage bill they should be ashamed of themselves.
rw89
Wilson was bloody fantastic. As other have mentioned, we're going to struggle to keep hold of him.

You did deserve to win over the 90 minutes, but you didn't! Has to be said, your an experienced 2nd division outfit and you look nothing special. You run out of steam and ideas second half and lack firepower up front. Apart from the penalties i didn`t see much to suggest you would beat us convincingly, and the first half was mostly route 1.
We shouldn't fear anyone in this division if Raith are one of the "best sides", but we will improve. Certain players (as with most teams) are out of their depth at East Fife, and if we hope to cement our status as a second division club on the up, then i would expect a few new faces next window. cool.gif

Well have to admit to feeling a little bit disappointed tonight after that game, I thought we really didn't do ourselves justice, the reason why we didn't play with a midfield until the 70th minute still escapes me, Fozzy isn't mobile or creative enough and Big Greigie is a defender being played out of position, we didn't look effective or cohesive as a unit until Fagan went into the middle and The Boabie came on (although in my opinion he should be starting). With that in mind I would warn the Wraith support in against over-praising their own side when the couldn't score from open play against a not very mobile back four and a non-existent middle four, yes you had the bulk of the play in the first half but I reckon, penalties aside, O'Connor made as many saves as McCulloch did today, just probably not as composed, and at times, not as photogenic as Wullie's efforts!!!

Like I said it wasn't until we upped the ante by taking certain players off and putting other players into their correct positions did it look better from our point of view. McManus was not as effective as he usually is but when he went off Crawford did look a different class when moved into a more direct "up front" position at least 3 or 4 times he tore the Wraith back four a new arsehole, but just couldn't help but think it was too little too late!!!

As for the penalties well by my reckoning there were five Penalty decisions for the referee to make and he fucked up everyone of them bar one, the two that Wraith got were not penalties, the one they didn't get when Tweed took the legs from a player was as stonewall as you are likely to see Crawford in the box near the end was a penalty of a similar sort, in my view McManus' second half dive was the only one he got right, but then again these decisions didn't really matter at the end of the day as Wullie decided to hold a master class!!!

At the end of the day I thought both sides were really not all they are cracked up to be, the Rovers are no great shakes and we are definitely a work in progress, but it saying that it was a fucking cracking game, the atmosphere was tremendous, as it should be at a local derby, I even found the Willie Gray stuff funny, as did the majority of Wraith boys and probably Wullie himself!!!

The two things that did disappoint me off the pitch though is the quite disgraceful form of apartheid practised at Starks Park, namely not allowing the away fans to light up behind the stands at half time, quite funny though watching the Security guard trying to make around 30 guys stop smoking as they puffed away on the concourse, I honestly thought he was going to start crying as he was ignored by all and sundry as he went about telling everybody to put them out, he finally got the police round to enforce the draconian regulations but by that time the teams were walking out again and the Smokers Protest Group had finished and were heading back up the stairs leaving him to get a bollocking from the Police for wasting their time and dragging Officers away from their posts for f**k all, but it was quite annoying to walk back up the stairs and see the nicotine refuelled Lino-Lickers up the side of the stand puffing away to their hearts content blethering away to the stewards!!!

The other thing that annoyed me was the "Fozzie is a racist" chants from the away fans, without opening up that whole can of worms again, having spoken to Fozzie I know he holds the Wraith support in the highest regard, pity for it to be tainted or perhaps ended by that quite frankly pathetic chant, I know from this Forum that a lot of the Lino Lickers support Fozzie in his defence of this allegation and it really just smacked of desperation and patheticness in attempt to upset an opposition player!!!

So at the end of this long winded rant, a draw was fair enough but both teams really must improve before the next meeting!!!

Not egos mate, more quality. We're good enough to survive this league but not good enough to win it. Maybe next season with a few new younger faces.

Mon_The_Fife
Well well.

A point a piece was just about right. We never got going in the first half and Raith dominated without rarely threatning us. Weir was causing us the most problems but he spends to much time on his arse. The 1st penalty was a bit baffling but a good save from the very impressive McCulloch.

2nd half we were more organised and began to threaten more. Charleston had a complete nightmare. Gary O'Connor handled the ball outside the box and yet that doesn't merit a booking?

The 2nd penalty was a stonewaller but again McCulloch made a great stop. We did take the lead against the run of play but disappointed not to hold on to it for a bit longer. When Bobby Linn came on the game was end to end with chances galore and both teams had chances to win it.

In the last few minutes Greig McDonald hit the bar only for the rebound to be blasted over by Crawford. It actually looked harder to miss than score.

Good atmosphere and a good game to watch. Roll on November.
Gordon EF
Can't really disagree with too much that's been said. Raith deserved the 3 points over the 90 minutes, but as a Raith fan commented when we said the same thing against Brechin, 'results don't lie'. We got the point because your strikers are pretty poor, you couldn't score from two penalties and Willie McCulloch had a stormer.

Raith looked OK, as I said, their strikers are pretty pish, plenty of bustle and pace but no end product.

We played OK for spells, Fagan and Shields look like they can be good additions, hopefully we begin to click a bit more soon.

P.S. If you don't know what I'm on about, I got warned by 2 fellow Rovers fans today that I had to stop putting videos from the games on YouTube because the highlights of the game are copyright of the SFL or something like that huh.gif And I was going to get the club into trouble unsure.gif

It was the home fans tongue.gif . Anyhow, it was tongue in cheek with Fozzy. He still has a lot of respect from guys at Starks. Unlike the slagging Merc.manus got, which was from the heart.............. smile.gif

Anyhow, cracking derby. Much better opposition in a derby than Cowdenbouf ever were.

Sorry about that, but because we effectively took over the ground and made so much more noise than your mob it felt like a home game to me!!! tongue.gif

Surely I'm not breaking any laws by posting this up, it's not as if it shows any football being played ph34r.gif

Isn't that the problem of the individual? Keep putting up the videos anyway. Was this on fantalk or at the game?

Great, put them on. I cant see how the club can be held responsible. What would happen if the folk in Pratt Street took the videos from their living room window?

Fukk the SFA.

If they want you to take them donw they will ask you or YouTube to do so. Until then, post away!! boldblue.gif boldblue.gif

I think the East Fife fans will find that they think they were louder because of the distance between stands. At times we were singing "It's Nice to Know Your Here" because it sounded as if you weren't singing a lot. Although I did feel we stopped singing a lot during the second half. sad.gif

Even when it went quiet it was because we were nervous about the ball being up the other end. It was never dull.

i think it was the best atmosphere at Stark's for many a year.
