Whilst all the decent gamblers probably will, I just find it to hard.
Only once I have done it and only a tongue in cheek £2@ 40/1 on Scotland 0-4 Sweden. As it was we lost 4-1, We got a penalty near the end and it was definatly NOT a penalty, I have never been so dissapointed to see Scotland score. Still remember it clearly, at Easter Road down the end where the Hibs fans sit (no idea what the stand is called). Was Tommy Burns game in charge after Vogts left.
But I notice quite a few posters bet quite heavily against their own sides. I could never put Scotland, Swindon or Aberdeen to lose on a coupon, nor stick large money against them to lose, even though I know I could make a few £ out of it. (sorry to use you as an example Latino mate) But I notice you had a decent sized stake against England on Wednesday and a fairly large bet on Portsmouth to finish above Newcastle. Same as Fudge betting against Stenny a bit. Whilst if a smaller bet it is a win/win situation, but to lose a fair bit due to your team winning must hurt a fair bit?
Just wondering where people stand against betting their own club and backing their rivals.

A gamble is a gamble and really little to do with supporting a team. I used to bet against Livi all the time but have recently found this to be counterproductive.

The two biggest profits I've made this season from football have both been against my own side. Elgin vs Cowdenbeath and Macedonia vs Scotland.
I have no problem betting against my own team as the way I see it is, as a fan of that team, I'm going to know when there is value in the opposition odds. I knew Cowdenbeath in the Alba cup against Elgin was an absolute certainty and the odds were very good, so I had quite a big bet on it and although I was obviously gutted that Elgin lost that day, I had made a large profit.
Your a fan of the team, so you follow them every week and know how much suspensions and injuries are going to affect them and know if the form guide is a true reflection on how your team are playing. I am much more comfortable betting against/on Elgin than I am betting on a team that the form guide says should win. This because I know more about Elgin than the bookies and can spot good value for or against Elgin more often than not.

I have no problem betting against my team. I feel as I watch my team every week I have a much greater knowledge of how the game will go than the bookies do. However, weirdly I never bet on Airdrie to win, infact today was the first time I ever have I think as 3/1 was too good to turn down. I think I don't like betting on us because if we lose it's a bit of a double whammy, but if we win, gaining a few bob really won't make me much happier.
Occasionally, if we are away to a top of the table team where a draw would be a good result, I'll stick a big single on the other team. Therefore if we win - fantastic, if we draw - good result, and if we lose - the winnings have paid for my day out and night out if I wish

I had a 20/1 double on Hull and Sunderland yesterday, trust the mackems tos f**k it up although I had £10 on them to draw at 1-0, should never have put big shots like Hull in an accy.

I don't see the problem on betting against my team. Gambling is about making money and making money only. Watching my team and the league we play in, I'd like to think I know what is a decent bet.
I had a reasonably large (for me anyway) single on East Fife twice last season when they played us, as they seemed very good bets. One of the times they were EVS and seemed a cracking bet. In the end it was 1-1 which was frustrating, but hey, it was a good bet at the time.
Tbh, if we're shite, then I may as well make some money from it.

Who says we want our team to lose? Me betting against Airdrie is more of an 'insurance policy' than anything.

Considering I support Newcastle and County, it would be stupid not too.
