...So why does George Burley play him up front on his own?

Not a pop at Burley here, I thought the formation worked a treat last night, but McFadden is far more effective when playing off someone, on the wing or just behind the strikers.

He's our most talented player and can create something out of nothing, but you can't expect him to beat 4 defenders on his own. He just didn't look like the McFadden of last year last night.

I'd disagree. The 4-3-3 formation with the two wingers was the right formation, and with Kenny Miller not fully fit, Mcfadden was probably the right choice. He wasn't totally alone as we were playing with attacking wingers. Maybe Boyd should have started I suppose, as he can be good in that role. Let's just hope he gets the tactics and team right for the next few games nologo.gif

Spot on. Big strong boy, good in the air and has an eye for goal. Perfect for the 4-3-3 formation.

McFadden has to start, hopfully where he is most effective though!

I would have played Boyd up front with McFadden and Maloney playing an attacking role on the wing. I dont think we can afford to not play Boyd as often as we can!

i would have liked to see steven fletcher play... even if it was coming on instead of kenny miller in the 2nd half

I think McFaddens confidence is down a bit just now. I think when he starts scoring for his club regularly his confidence will boost and that will show in a Scotland jersey. Thought he played well against in Iceland but the thing that pisses me off with him is that he holds onto the ball to long where he could shoot instead.

He's going backwards i think, he's trying to beat 10 men first before shooting again. Miller and Boyd have started getting a really good understanding together at Rangers, i'd start them two against Norway and use McFadden as a sub if we're needing a change of attack.

If Boyd actually started games for Rangers he would be in the team straight away IMO as he's a proven goalscorer at club and International level. Think he's scored in all the games he's started for Scotland? Could be wrong. If he did score he better not pull off that dodgy celebration that he done on the weekend.laugh.gif

He's started all but one game for Rangers this season in the League.

The celebration has the making of being the best celebration of all time, its not the fact its a forward roll...its the worst forward roll of all time.
