In all seriousness though, I seem to remember some story in the papers doing the rounds about Buchanan's dad being investigated for drugs, coincidentally at Almondvale for the Scottish Cup back earlier this year, Buchanan's car was apparently seized as part of it.

Yes his dad was convicted for dealing and had several posessions ( a house and cars) repossessed under the POCA including a mini he bought buchanan for his 21st birthday

Looks like someone is upto their old tricks, If true im sure the authorities are paying an interest in the way he got the car

In the original trial he tried to claim buchanan bought the car himself on an apprentice plumbers wage and £50 from cowden, surprised he didnt get done for perjury

The court should have taken the whole £400,000 away if he couldn't prove where he earned it, need to be harsh with dealers especially one like George Buchannan who was obviously a career dealer.

Old, old news. If you have an pertinent information on these matters - instead of letting your arse rip on a football forum - I'm sure you'll take it to the proper authorities. wink.gif

I'm curious to know if this story has gone away, or will Thistle be dealing with something more than a fan who can't keep his mouth shut when drink is taken in conversation with a director after a particularly heavy defeat. rolleyes.gif

is fascinating. I'd be curious to know in what period Buchanan accumulated the wealth that allowed him to buy a posh house and flash cars for his family if the PFO couldn't convict him on dealing.

Perhaps he sells hi-tech military equipment to the Saudis. A noble enough venture, or so our former prime minister thinks. smile.gif

His entire adulthood up to the beginning of the timeframe in question and from the end of it onwards it would seem. Aside, of course, from the 16 years he spent at Her Majesty's pleasure early in his "career".

All in all, it seems like he's done incredibly well in a very short space of time considering he was in prison between 1974-1982 and 1987-1995, AND he's effectively been found innocent of any wrongdoing between 1998 and 2003. I wonder what sort of profession could provide such ludicrous amounts of money in such a short space of time...

Maybe he's a plumber?

Can't disagree with that TBH. Still, I'm waiting for the investigative journalists' views on the earnings of all the other players. Then we can expand the thread to other clubs. That'll be fun. wink.gif

I'm quite sure that, digging up the past aside, this is not the last we'll be hearing about the drugs issue. People in glass houses and all. You know how it is.

Yeah, Thistle/Morton would be the biggest crowd puller.  Any idea of final venue? McDiarmid Park?  East End Park?   Pity they couldn't make it Fir Park, especially if Ross County get knocked out?
Dr Koop
Hmm ... good point. I reckon that will depend upon the teams that make the final, as three are from central Scotland and one from Ross and Cromarty - or Cro-marty if you watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles ... what is that all about? huh.gif

If County makes the final the game will be played in either Perth or Dundee. If not, I reckon it'll be Fir Park. If it's a Thistle v Morton match perhaps Noo Broomfield or Deadwood.

Time will tell.

No, please, not Deadwood or Dumbdee if we're in final.     Perth if Ross County are in it, otherwise Fir Park or New Broomfield, yes.  Or are SPL grounds not included, given it's the Challenge Cup?   No doubt the SFL will screw it up, anyway ...  nologo.gif

i.e. Most of the time, but probably not in the event of a Thistle Morton final.

"The proposed amendments next refer to the position of Liam Buchanan. The interim administrator's information on his position was derived from Inland Revenue sources. What is now averred is in conflict with the petitioners' position. There is a lack of specification of the period covered by the averments. Superficially, if Liam Buchanan has had a consistent income of £30,000 per annum for some time, of which the Revenue have notice of £6,432.33 only in 2004-5, he has more to fear from investigation by Her Majesty's Customs and Inland Revenue (which must now follow) than he has from these proceedings in which bank deposits of less than £10,000 are at stake."

That's an interesting part... though he's probably just feeding HMRC a line for his dad, who'll in turn pay off his "unpaid taxes"

How intriguing. Sounds to me like Jr's well and truly complicit in the web of lies masking the big fat piles of ill-gotten gain. Seems to be a thoroughly unsavoury character.

I would just like to wish Airdrie and County all the best in the final. Oh and surely the dates are wrong with the Liam Buchanan story, surely it should be 2008 and not 2006 if its such breaking story!!

Aw here we go again. Thistle and Morton in the final - has to be wembley surely.

Let the tales begin of 15,000 each from each side wanting to go etc and how its unfair that its not being played at Hampden etc. Aye right.

I still remember a Morton fan on Real Radio a few years ago claiming a challenge cup quarter final v Clyde should have been all ticket as Morton would sell the away end out twice over. The attendance was about 2000! This was just after the "all bets are off" (or on to be more accurate) season when Morton filled every ground 5 times over (until the matches actually happened and 3 man and a dug showed up).

Get a grip for F * ck s sake, and any case fistle you wont be there so dont worry!
