How many players have scored a hat-trick for Scotland?

Also, which player has scored most goals for the national team in one competitive match?

Regards Napoli
Whistle Blower
Henry Morris (East Fife) scored a hattrick for Scotland in his one and only appearance.

In the very early days, it was common for hat-tricks to occur. Peter Campbell got the first '4' in a game v Wales on 23/3/1878 with the first '3' having arrived a few weeks earlier, on 2/3/1878. On that occasion, John McDougall got 3 in a 7-2 win over England.

I'm pretty certain Colin Stein got 4 against Cyprus in a World Cup qualifier. Must check up.

Edit - I was right. May 1969, result 8-0 at Hampden. Those were the days.

RS McColl scored hat-tricks for Scotland on successive Saturdays in 1899 against Ireland and Wales, and then he also had a first half hat-trick against England at Parkhead the following year when we beat them 5-1.
Gypsy till I die
Kevin Harper scored a Hat-trick for the U-21's at Broadwood in a 5-0 victory IIRC. I think it was against Finland.

Hugh Gallacher is a name I seem to remember from a book I read ages ago. Think he got 4 goals v Northern Ireland in the 20's

This was also the last hat-trick scored in a full international for Scotland, although we've had hunners of doubles since then!!!

Yeah, I remember we did really well the 1970 World Cup Finals that we didn't qualify for.

Incidentally West Germany beat Cyprus 12-0 and Austria beat them 7-1 so that result was hardly a stand out, Cyprus were just pish back in those days.

Denis Law scored one hat trick for Scotland....and also scored two 4's!

Got 4 against Northern Ireland on 7th Nov 1962;

bagged 3 against Norway on 4th Jun 1963;

then got another 4 against Norway on 7th Nov 1963.

All in all the fairly decent strike rate of 11 international goals in 3 matches!

Slightly off-topic but Denis scored 6 in a cup-tie for Man City but the game was abandoned so they don't count. What a goal machine!
