We play well at Palmerston, Queens play well at Cappielow - that seems to have been the pattern since we came back up to the first div.
On Sunday we had pretty successfully plugged the holes at the back from the Airdrie debacle (please, please, give us them at Cappielow in the next round because we have a few scores to settle!!) and it was one of these games where Queens had quite a lot of possession but could have played all night and not scored. They threw a lot of high balls into the box for Kean and Dobbie - both decent players but neither renowned for their heading ability. It might be different on Saturday if O'Connor is back.
We have signed a decent young left footed left back - thats pretty novel at Cappielow - and with Alex Walker at Right back, all of a sudden we have a pretty decent back four. Midfield is still not the finished article but Alan Jenkins is nearly fully match fit and when he came on for the last half hour on Sunday he dominated the midfield. Plus, for all they have been hot and cold, we've scored a few from midfield this season.
Wake is scoring and so is Russell so there is a bit of a threat up front.
All in all, I am hoping for our first league victory but not all that confident. 2-1 Morton will see me home happy!

If I was a betting man I'd go for a Queens win.

I thought Queens best players on Sunday were some of the old hands. I was not that impressed by the new boys - Kean, Weatherston, etc. Parratt appeared to go missing for our goals which both came from his area.
I also thought some of the subs a bit strange. McFarlane was one of the better players but he got hooked and at the same time roughly Morton brought on Jenkins. Whether it was Queens sub or Jenkins or a bit of both, after that Morton looked far more comfortable and largely in charge of midfield.
If Harding and Shimmin can look after Kean/O'Connor/Dobbie - whatever front two are on - as well as they did on Sunday, Queens will find goals hard to come by.
On the other hand, we are playing at Cappielow and everyone scores at Cappielow!! (well except us quite alot of the time!!)

i am hoping that we can at least get a draw. if we play as poor as we have in recent matches i cannot see us coming away with anything.
start playing a bit better, passing the ball around and using the midfield, we may just squeek a win 2-1.
play as we have in past few games 2-0 morton.
Hard game to call. Having shown that they can grind out a win while playing badly against Ross County (and getting worse as the game went on until that well-taken late goal), Queens were beaten by a Morton team not really firing on all cylinders for most of the game. With home advantage and probably a similar line-up, Morton should be able to win, but we are talking about Morton here. Much may depend on whether or not O'Connor is playing because without him Dobbie seems a bit lost. I reckon Queens are title contenders this season if injuries don't hamper them too much.
However, logic says to me this one could end 1-1 or 2-2, although I think Morton are going to improve now that Jenkins is nearly fully fit. He is what has been missing and should make Morton much more than the sum of the parts. I see a steady climb up the league, hampered by not having a top notch out and out striker - although Weatherson may solve that now he is back to being a forward. I emphasize may.
Even with no injuries and in our best form, I would be reluctant to predict a victory. Apart from anything else, our good run at Cappielow is bound to end sooner or later.
If we play like we did for 75 minutes on Sunday, defeat is assured. I think we are in a false position in the league because we were quite lucky against Ross County and Thistle (apart from the opening 10 minutes). Over the piece, both deserved a draw. And I'm still not convinced about the centre of our defence, despite the changes.

Our midfield simply disappears when we take Macfarlane off, yet Chisholm seems to do it without fail during every match. The fact he replaces him with Scott Robertson simply adds insult to injury.

3-1 Morton, Brian Wake hat-trick within the first 18 minutes of the game. Queens pull one back just before half time and then miss a penalty just after the hour mark. Scott Robertson sent off on 84 minutes for a crazy lunge at Ryan Mcguffie.

It's one of the most stupid sayings ever in football! The only time a team needs 3 points more than another is if it's the last game of the season and one team is 2 points away from safety and the other is sitting mid-table 4 points away from the team above 4 points away from th team below. Just because we are second and you are bottom doesn't mean you need them more! We need them just as much as Morton to maintain a promotion challenge!

Bit silly to talk about desperation for points at this stage of the season, but I'd be inclined to suggest that relegation to the Second Division would be infinitely more disasterous for us than failure to win promotion would be for Queens'.

I have to say I find that statement astounding, Morton are struggling at the bottom of the league and desperate for our first win to kick start our season. Queens are looking solid and hoping to mount a title challenge.

I just don't see how you can justify Morton needing the points more than us 5 games in!? Just because you are currently bottom doesn't mean you need them anymore than us! We are looking towards promotion (it seems) and you are looking to finish mid-table. We are currently second you are tenth. At present none of the clubs are reaching their targets therefore they both need the points as much as one another.

Ok, here goes, Morton don't need the points more than us because an extra three points won't make any difference - they are going to finish bottom anyway and be relegated to the Second Division, where they will spend one season before being relocated to their natural home in the Third.
