There's no doubting he's talented but does anyone else think he's too greedy? At 25 he should have matured into more of a team player but all he wants to do is to try to win games on his own. If we could afford to I'd drop him until he learns how to pass the ball to his teammates.

Thoughts?

He's the only player we have who can go past a player with a wee trick, he's got a bit of pace, and a bit of imagination. We can't afford to leave him out.

His individuality is what makes him a great player. Kenny Miller is a team player. Faddy is there to give us that spark and bit of creativity.

You're barking up the wrong tree here pansy.
If it wasn't for McFadden, we probably wouldn't have created any chances on Saturday.

I admit he sometimes tries to do too much but you can hardly blame him given that no-one else seems capable of doing anything.

We didn't look like we had worked on anything attacking-wise before the match - for me, the blame lies firmly with the coaching team.

Although he has to be in the team for that, he also has to learn to pass once in a while. (or pick out a team-mate with a pass).

Yes.

Yes i should.

He is greedy but he has the talent to back it up. Unlike if Broadfoot tried the tricks and flicks.
Sir Kevin Of Kilsyth
Can be greedy yes but he is the only player in the team that can create something out of nothing. He has been brilliant for Scotland and I definetely wouldnt drop him on Wednesday.
DJP
One of the few flair players we have. But I have to admit his greediness at times drives me mental. But can we afford to leave him out? Probably not, as he shows as much passion as anyone and has the ability to turn the game around, without putting to much pressure on the lads shoulders. I do like Miller up front for us as well, but as a pairing, I don't think Miller and McFadden are upto it. Would rather see Boyd/Fletcher partner McFadden, or move McFadden to the wing, but I fear he will have little impact there.

DancingInTheStreets
I would quite like to see McFadden, Miller and Boyd all play in a 433 / 451 system.

I'm fed up seeing Boyd come on too late to get himself any chances.

To be fair... If I was playin up front with Kenny Miller I wouldn't wanna pass to him either!

He is severely over-rated.

By whom?

We all know his shortcomings but he is still our most creative player by a distance.

How he has been dragged in to this after Saturday is a mystery - he was one of our best players and tried everything he could to break down their defence, as he always does.

Just imagine life as a Scotland supporter without the Holland (h), Ukraine (h) and France (a) results in recent times!

By Scotland fans in general really.

He was terrible on Saturday always looking to do the hard thing, looking to go himself and shooting from ridiculous angles when a cross or a simple pass would suffice.

We all know that he can be a decent player and when he wants he create chances from virtually nothing but the games he shows it are few and far between and he's just not nowhere near as good as he's made out in Scotland.

You're right he scored 2 good goals that makes everything alright smile.gif.

No he wasn't.

I can name at least 8 other players who were worse and that's not including the subs.

I think McFadden should be a definite starter but put him in a "free-role".
Sir Kevin Of Kilsyth
I dont think we can afford to be putting people in free roles in away internationals to be honest.

Exactly the same as now? Those results are meaningless because none helped us to qualify for a Finals.

McFadden wasn't even a first pick until France away and he only played up front on his own because Miller was unavaliable.

He should look at Joe Cole for inspiration. He is extremely talented but didn't play regularly in his first two seasons at Chelsea because he had no end product. When Mourinho came in he learned to play for the team and not himself and is now a much better player. McFadden thinks he's still playing in the playground, you could argue that he's our biggest underachiever.

He has a broadly similar goal scoring ratio to Dalglish achieved in the poorest Scottish teams inliving memory against often very decent opposition. He is far from perfect but we dont have anyone doing any better in terms of goals. Boyd has done well when used but has been used sparingly, so would be interesting to see him getting more game time.
drs
Championship level player at best who needs to learn to look up from his feet and pass the ball. He continually loses posession and you can't have players like that at international level, he's nowt more than Kenny Miller with the ability to dribble.

Totally agree doonhammer. He is one of Scotlands best players but I think the Paris goal and all the attention afterwards has put quite a bit of pressure on McFadden and he feels he has to something out of the ordinary every time he plays for Scotland. If once in a while he laid the ball he would keep defenders guessing when he got the ball. It is sometimes easier for a defender to mark a man when he knows that he is always going to try and beat him.
calum_gers
Miller and mcfadden or boyd and maloney, given a choice as a manager i know which stirke pairing i would choose.
The one which we will have sat on our bench for every game. huh.gif
