Clubs got travel costs paid for by the SFA last season didn't they? Is that not happening this year?

There is an element of travel paid by the SFA, it doesn't always cover the cost, some of these ties will also incur accomodation and meals, best part of a grand, and some possibly.

Would be one of the only teams Pollock would have wanted to avoid I'd think. Saw Spartans pre-season and didn't think much of them.
Think the draws been ok to the South teams. Wigtown got thebest draw I think watched Forres last year at Girvan and they were wrotten and I the long journey wont help them I don't think.

where are the crichton in this draw or are they auto into next round
HibeeJibee
Crichton get direct access into R2, as SOSFL champions. They could draw any Third Division sides (including Annan...), or Whitehill (EOSFL champions), or Cove or Keith (champion and runner-up of HFL). Plus anyone who wins in R1. I'm unsure if Hospital Park passed its SFA inspection though.

Purely tongue in cheek. I do hope you win, I had this feeling that fate would bring Annan & Spartans together in the Cup, if you had to pick a tie to avoid that would have been the one. You've had tough draws in the last three years, Linlithgow and Pollok, I think you met us in the Qualifying Cup the year before that with Grant Parker scoring the only goal.

Nice earner for Crichton. Guaranteed £4,000, proceeding to Round 3 would see that reach £10,000.

That's the romance of the cup I suppose - there are a few ties in R1 where both the teams are reasonably poor (no I will not be naming them wink.gif ). Draw them and it could be a big R3 pay day.

There's also the attraction for players / managers - a trip to Hampden, Cappielow, Stair Park etc.

Aw c'mon Jamie, we all sent Annan Get Well Soon cards!

Galabankie just wants us to get through so they can draw and hump us in the 2nd round (I think)

Gordon Smith might actually be on to something, a tie between Pollok and Spartans in the first round should really open the competition with a bang - and that is not taking anything away from the other tasty ties before the Spartans dissin continues.

I'm sure you're jesting but Wick Academy have no school connections, despite the name! laugh.gif The name doesn't even have origins from a school either, they were named after a cricket club for some reason, way back in 1893.

Crichton are not breaking any rules by being in the 2nd Round.

QUOTE
6. Eligible Clubs
Entry to the Scottish Association Cup Competition is available to clubs in Full or Associate Membership of the Association. Clubs in membership of the Scottish Junior Football Association, the East of Scotland Football League and the South of Scotland Football League may also be permitted to enter the Scottish Association Cup Competition

QUOTE
Round One
The clubs which, in the current season, are members of The Scottish Premier League and
The Scottish Football League, shall be exempt from playing in Round One.

Round Two
The clubs which, in the previous season, have won the Scottish Highland Football League
Championship, the East of Scotland Football League Championship and the South of
Scotland Football League Championship shall also be exempt from playing in Round One,
as shall the runners up in the Scottish Highland Football League Championship.

I admit I can't see how they could become Associate Members of the SFA though as they have ZERO chance of getting Crichton Park passed as Associate standard as they don't have floodlights, cover for 500 etc, but that has no effect on their being allowed in this season's Scottish Cup where the criteria to play is winning the South title and having a roped off pitch.

More unprovoked childish digs............yawn.

The BP youth cup team has never been our responsibility - I do agree that 'prior thought' has been lacking in previous years. This had been adressed this year though and Ian Thomson seems to be doing a real good job getting the team ready. Away game at Stair Park won't be easy mind.

Yeah fair enough, not meant as a dig against Wigtown youth team or against anybody involved in running the set up.

Well done to the Newton Under 19s, put up a great fight in what was a very close run exciting game. Full credit to the boys and Ian Thomson for managing to give a club who has the pick of players from this area a real scare.

They used to pay up to £300 towards the travel costs. I remember if we had a long away trip we used to end up well out of pocket. Committee members used to have to drive 17seaters etc.

Saints' club bus passed away a few years back due to massive holes in it's bodywork. So we had to hire 2 minibuses to go up to Dingwall for SFA youth cup game. It was held on a sunday for some daft reason. I was on the committee and had to drive one of the buses there and back. We got back home at about 1AM. Poor kids had school the next morning, we got beat 3-0 and I couldn't have a drink!!!

The whole trip left the club about £300 out of pocket.

HibeeJibee
In fairness, you can't have your cake and eat it. Membership of the SFA gives high rewards in both finance and prestige - in return, you have to make 1 or 2 long journeys a year. The Youth Cup is an important tournament (albeit only open to SFA members... and even then some of them don't enter), and is divided regionally in the early rounds. If you want to reap the rewards of success, you have to be prepared to pay the price sometimes as well. Loads of clubs would bite your hand off to be in SFA.

Junior clubs can make numerous journeys across the country in their Junior Cup (which is 8 rounds long, with replays, and is nationwide all the way through). And they get hardly any sponsors cash. So although I'm sure journeys over long distances can be expensive - at least some money is available.

Remember as well that Scotland is not a huge country - versus Germany, Russia, Brazil, China etc.
