Looks a great new version hopefully bug free in the orignal, but I doubt it either way gonna be game of the year imo as usual.

Looks a really good game, will be interested to see what Man City's budget is.

That would be impressive considering the details were only released last Wednesday.

Nope. The new version deserves its own thread. At least until such time as its proved to be another bug ridden, slight upgrade to the previous version. At which point I'll merge them wink.gif

There has already been talk of FM09 in the FM thread since last wednesday though, there is nothing in this thread that hasn't been said in that one. You're ruining an FM legacy!

But this is the first offical "news" so it seems an appropriate time to start a new thread.

To me it seems like they are getting further away from what Football Manager should be. All of this press conference, and media relations is usually boring as hell, even the team talks were duf in '08. For me Championship Manager 01/02 will never be beaten for playability, the way it looked, and the simplicity of the game.

I'll still buy it though I bet, no matter how many times I need to patch it afterwards. huh.gif

I'm playing CM 93 just now and finding it far more addictive than FM 2008!

I start a career in FM 2008 for a few seasons then get bored far too easily!!! sad.gif

The thing about the older ones was that it was so easy. You just sign players, who normally have about 5 attributes that you have to look at and after 15 years or so Man United are in the 3rd Division and Barnet are championship challengers in the Premiership.

I prefer it to be a little more realistic and difficult. Championship Manager 01/02 was great at the time and the first one I played regularly but I couldn't play it now.

Strangely enough I'm Barnet in my game laugh.gif currently in the 1st Division looking to get promoted to the Premiership cool.gif

I just find Football Manager too time consuming while CM93 or CM 97/98 you can get into a game much quicker smile.gif

3D? Nice to see that they are appealing to the Fisher Price mob. dry.gif

I knew this was going to come at some stage and if it's at the cost of the match engine and the 3d system, then I'll be posted the game to their fucking door step.

I'm sure the spotty teenager who works in game has all the latest inside info on FM, and indeed all the top releases this year rolleyes.gif

It's out mid November. From past memory beta testing for the research folk usually starts about two months before it comes out - and I'm supposed to have my copy of the beta in the next week or so.

It's horrifically overpriced and staffed with idiots that know nothing about games or computers / consoles (a few months ago one of the managers assured my mate that his "inside info" was that MS were ready to withdraw the 360 from sale as they were conceding defeat to the PS3 laugh.gif).

EDIT: Just had a look at their website. They're still trying to sell Halo 3 for £39.99 (and are advertising it as "saving" £10 as the RRP is £49.99) even though you can get it from Blah for £15.89 delivered!

To get a decent amount of points on the Game card you have to buy a ridiculous amount of overpriced nonsense in the first place.

Im not going to argue about the staff, but as a high street retailer its no more overpriced than any other.

I've saved lots of money with my loyalty card and trade ins - I got Guitar Hero 3 a couple of months ago for £24 by trading in a couple of games I didnt play anymore, for example.

As for online, again they're no better or worse than any other, IMO. You quoted Halo 3 on Blah - but if you check Madden 09 for the Wii, its actually cheaper on the Game site - and in stock, Blah dont have any. Tiger Woods 09 is £29.99 on Game but isnt even listed on Blah.

I just think it's ridiculously overpriced. The problem I have with the Game card is that the stuff you buy from Game to get points is by and large sold at a price higher than what a person needs to pay. They also offer a pittance for trade-ins.

You're right, it's no worse than most High Street retailers, especially as Gamestation has went the same way since Game bought it.

I use Find Games to, er, find games - and almost always find things cheaper than game. I used Blah as an example for Halo 3 as they were the cheapest. You can get Madden 09 and Tiger Woods 09 for £29 each on Zavvi, cheaper again than Game.

Maybe I just hate high street shopping laugh.gif

Strangely enough I'm Barnet in my game laugh.gif currently in the 1st Division looking to get promoted to the Premiership cool.gif

I took them to the brink of the Championship, jumped ship to Nottingham Forest took them to the Premiership and battled against relegation for a season. I was then joined by Barnet who proceeded to spank my arse 4 and 5 skud with a team of youngsters I had signed who had turned out to be pretty much Champions League standard (ironically, the majority of them had me down as one of their favoured staff - and they all loved Barnet).

I pretty much chucked it after then, the grass is never greener etc etc.

Which version had the bug where you could be offered assistant manager jobs only to be sacked on the spot? I had a game where I accepted assistant jobs at Man Utd (twice) and Liverpool in the hope I'd get to control their reserve sides rolleyes.gif
danelder89
TV View - Watch your matches in new full screen TV view and customise your match day screen with widgets to view the information you need as a football manager, be it player performance, match action zones, pitch radar, latest scores and many more.

Assistant Manager Feedback - Pre-match and in-match feedback from your Assistant Manager on how the team is performing and your player's motivation levels, as well as hints on how your tactics are working and how you could outwit the opposition's tactics.

Press Conferences - Attend pre-match and post-match press conferences with local and national journalists and build up relationships with them over time, but choose your answers carefully because they could come back to haunt you in the media at a later date.

Transfer System - Completely new and re-written transfer system code, providing an even more realistic simulation of real-life football transfers.

Transfer Rumours - View the latest news on what players are being speculated on, and who's said to be interested in securing their services.

Board Confidence - Following on from its addition in Football Manager 2008, board confidence has been expanded and improved. In addition, the board will now also offer feedback on your squad harmony and your club's stature in the football world.

Preferred Moves - Train your players to learn 'preferred moves' to add to their game. For example, train central defenders to not dive into tackles, or wingers to do step-overs before crossing the ball.

Female Manager - For the very first time you can now play as a female manager. All of the text in the game now also has a female gender so the game represents female managers and staff in the game in the correct gender.

Football Manager 2009's match engine has seen more testing than ever before having been extensively beta tested in Football Manager Live for the past year.

The famous Football Manager match engine can now be viewed in full 3D with motion captured animations for the players. Sports Interactive has been working on the 3D match engine for nearly 3 years with the support of SEGA Japan's Virtua Striker team who provided the motion capture data and some of the animations. You can now watch your matches in 3D from multiple camera angles and re-watch any part of the match by fast forwarding and rewinding the action using a new match time bar that flags the key moments in the game. The old 2D view of the match engine is still there, especially for those people whose computers aren't powerful enough to take advantage of the 3D views.

As a result of usability testing on Football Manager 2008, this year sees widescreen support for the game for the first time, as well as lots of tweaks to the user interface for easier navigation.

Football Manager 2009 is fully updated for the new 2008/09 football season with all the latest league, club and player data, featuring over 5,000 playable clubs from over 50 countries, and around 350,000 players and staff from around the world, drawn fresh from the famous Sports Interactive database.

Sports Interactive have worked hard to reflect the greater impact the media has been having in recent years on the world of football, in the in-game dealings with the press. The game now features more news stories, more detail and greater media interaction than ever before, creating an even more realistic simulation of the football world.
