I've had my new laptop for about 5 hours, and I'm already fucking about with all its shitey settings too much...

There's a "Media" hotkey on this new Dell Studio laptop, and it was opening up Dell MediaDirect or some such bollocks. Now, I uninstalled that shit, with a view to making the hotkey open up Windows Media Player, like it does on my PC...

But I can't find out how to change, and now the button just does nothing. Any idea how I can change it?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

I'm sure this thread will feature a few more of my problems...

OK, I don't really give a shit about that problem any more, I can easily work round it.

However... is there any way to stop all these Security Warnings everytime I try to open anything in my Links menu? It's fair rippin' ma knittin'.

Cheers, team smile.gif

In the dell software, there should be the option to reassign the media key to whatever you want.

secondly, go to user accounts and safety in the control panel, then user accounts, then turn off account control. Reboot and you wont get the annoying warnings any more.

Many thanks.

Disabling account control can cause problems with some software installations on Vista.

The feature is designed to ensure that nothing can run with elevated permissions on your machine without you approving it.

Although I agree it is quite annoying, bear in mind you might have to turn it on again even temporarily if you have problems installing a specific piece of software wink.gif

How is your Studio, and would you recommend it.

Much love.

It's been great so far, but I'm not really a great person to ask. I've got very little experience with laptops, so I don't really have anything to compare it to.

Haven't been any problems with it though, other than the stuff mentioned on this thread.
