My laptop wont recognise any disk i put in, when i go to my computer nothing is there.
any advice ?
Presumably you mean CD's or DVD's?
When you click on "My Computer" or "Computer" depending on which Windows your running can you see your CD/DVD drive listed with a letter assigned (E.g. DVD-RW (E:\))?

how much will that cost ?
Depends on what you've got. Can you post the Manufacturer and Model Number of the laptop? There should be a white sticker somewhere underneath with the details.

disable the drive and restart then enable it again.

Have you installed anything recently. I installed a TV stick that had a bug in Vista where the CD drive disappeared.
