My laptop wont recognise any disk i put in, when i go to my computer nothing is there.

any advice ?

Presumably you mean CD's or DVD's?

When you click on "My Computer" or "Computer" depending on which Windows your running can you see your CD/DVD drive listed with a letter assigned (E.g. DVD-RW (E:\))?

no nothing at all there, just the hard drives

any help would greatly be appreciated

Sounds like you need a new optical drive.

how much will that cost ?

Depends on what you've got. Can you post the Manufacturer and Model Number of the laptop? There should be a white sticker somewhere underneath with the details.

disable the drive and restart then enable it again.

Have you installed anything recently. I installed a TV stick that had a bug in Vista where the CD drive disappeared.
