I reckon we'll go with the 4-5-1 for this game, largely because Ferguson is still injured. I think any assortment of four across the middle minus himself does look a touch imbalanced or vulnerable even. Five men in that area will certainly provide a better shield for the back line which minus Weir doesn't inspire confidence, on paper at least.

I would go with;

Gordon (GK); Alexander (RB), McManus (CB), Caldwell (CB), Naysmith (LB); McFadden (LM/FRL) Darren Fletcher (CM) Hartley (CM) Brown (CM) Morrison (RM); Miller (FC).

I'm not best pleased with that XI but I don't see that we could really do much better. Maloney might be a worthwhile introduction later on or what have you, likewise Commons & Clarkson.

I wouldn't be discontented by a draw.

Im so depressed by the prospect of this match that I would now be delighted with a draw.

I'm not holding my breath for this one, the game is to be played in stifling heat which their players will be used to whereas ours won't. That likely means no lung busting runs from Miller and McFadden or box to box charges from Brown, Fletcher etc, resulting in quite a low key and indeed boring game from our point of view.

I'll hope for a narrow win, think it'll end up a dull 0-0 or 1-1 draw and in reality will probably witness us being soundly beaten 2-0 or so.

Not been impressed by our form under Burley so far and i'm not particularly confident about this one. In all honesty, I can't see us winning this match, and think it will end up a draw. Probably 1-1.

I genuinely think it will be 1-0 to them, but I am going to predict 2-1 for us, with goals from Kenny Miller and, ooh, let's say Caldwell.

I dis agree - at the end of the day he is unbeaten. Believe it or not that is the most successful start to a Scotland manager reign for over 20 years!! (Andy Roxburgh last to match this record).

If he avaoids defeat on Sat and Wed then I will be very happy with his start.

We need 3 points at the very least from these two games. Considering we lost in Georgia, a draw in Macedonia might not be too bad, but we should beat Iceland. We won 2-0 there at our lowest ebb under Vogts, so surely we can do it now.

I think Macedonia away might be difficult for even Holland.

OK so I take all that back about a good start.

Havent seen anything in Burley's reign so far to make me feel optimistic and that allied to a lot of call offs, and it would be a tough call against any half decent side. Macedonia meanwhile are exactly the sort of team we struggle against at the best of times and in the heat ( with only 24 hrs to acclimatise ffs !! ) I am struggling to find any optimism. That said if we cannot beat that Iceland team, then we really are in for a sore campaign.
If we came back with 4 pts from this double header I would be well pleased.

Burley is finding his feet but I'm sure it will be alright on the night. He's got a good nucleus of players so I don't think things are that bad. It will be a very difficult game in Skopje for sure, after all England have struggled against them home and away, but I don't think it is beyond us to get something.

A draw would be none too shabby.

Macedonia take the lead in the 3rd minute, double it in the 27th. Scotland play in a Vogts-style shambles until the 64th minute when Kenny Miller schlafs in after a goalmouth scramble. Despite most of the pressure Scotland can't pull the win out of the bag and Burley's reign gets off to the worst possible start.
