The Fantalk on the Oficial Rovers website has been ditched. There is an unofficial one now,. Raith have followed Aberdeen and decided that enough is enough. So any opinions, either a good idea or bad????????
Can Anelka not handle criticism then
It is, to all intent, the same board - just with the word 'unofficial' prominent and hosted under a different domain.

East Fife got rid of the forum on their official site too after a few, apparently, "libelous" comments were made.
In fact, I think the incident on that forum forced the SFL/SFA whoever it was to force much stricter control of official forums and I don't think many clubs will allow official forums from now on.
As long as it's the same forum and you've still got a forum, I don't see the problem. I've read it quite a bit recently and some people really aren't happy.

Don't be suprised if all official sites, remove all links to unofficial sites that have message boards as well.
The SFA/SFL in there wisdom are holding clubs responsible for any inflammable comments at all, if they supply a link to the said website.

Saints got rid of theirs too after the heat became too much.
Also, someone "started" a malicious rumour about a player that was entirely uncalled for and out of order
Is it just me or did anyone else think that when they 1st read the topic heading that it said "Falkirk no more"? Or am I just spouting pish again?

That'll save JC getting it shut down then
He was "unimpressed" by some of the comments on ours last season. It disappeared soon after.

I knwo I post on the Clyde official one, but I honeslty think that having forums's on official sites is just plain daft. The clubs are, afaik, liable for what is posted on them and this isn't particularly a good thing.
Ofcourse, names on these forums should be kept hush hush by the admin/moderators.

Just days after our official fan talk is moved to another server and its official status revoked - we lose it completely!

2711 Fan Talk The administrators of this web site today received a message from one of the users of 2711 Fan Talk threatening legal action against Raith Rovers Football Club, specifically with regard to Fan Talk itself.
After consulation with legal advisers, Fan Talk has been indefinitely withdrawn due to this.
We regret this decision, but are unwilling to force Raith Rovers Football Club to endure legal proceedings regarding this forum.

What are we gonna do now!!

And who's the nonce that was threatening legal action?
This is going from bad to worse. We have:
- an Agent posing as a Manager that bought the job.
- a Scout posing as an Assistant Manager (and a convicted criminal to boot)
- a team comprised of promising Scots youth that need time to develop and a bunch of foreign diddys from the French fleapit league.
- an ongoing feud with the Sunday Mail that gives us some real bad publicity
Plus,
- We've got no more FanTalk on which to vent our spleen
- Our most experience coach left for Dens park.

First of all RRFC do away with fan talk on the official site, because they don`t like people critcising them, now the plug has been pulled on the 27/11 "unofficial" site, because of threats of legal action. Nazi Germany is alive and well in the Lang Toun.

FanTalk was getting pish anyway, some decent links were appearing in The Black Hole though

Its not fair though, bloody ponces!
Would it not have made more sense to post this in the Div 1 forum?
Laid Back Maverick
Aug 18 2004, 20:38
To be honest, the Black Hole is usually what I looked at. Cant think why anyone would threaten legal action - if anything libellous had been written why not just remove the offending post and/or reprimand the author.
The Rovers conspiracy mob will probably claim that its an effort by Anelka to stop the fans talking about how bad a manager he is!
Bring back Fan Talk!
Liam
PS. Meant to post it in 1st Div, but I arsed it up. Or maybe I'm trying to kid myself that the Anelka revolution will get us back in the SPL...aye right.

Dysart - you really are an arse. All clubs are looking into doing this, because a rule change now means that the clubs are being held legally responsible for comments made on forums on any official website.
Some of the comments recently could have had serious reprisals for the club, so the decision was mde to move to an Unoffical Forum. This was just common sense on the part of the club - and not any attempt to supress "free speach".
Today, this new unofficial forum has been clsed down, and the following posted.

Again, this is is not the fault of the club - but rather a result of abuse by some of the forums users. You should be venting your fury at these users - not the club.
Are you so backward that you cannot understand the difficult position that this minority of "fans" have subjected the club to? Do you feel that the club should hae continued to associate itself with these comments - and potentially end up with a court case and damages awards which would mean the end of the club you support?

I think that the issue here was probably because the unofficial website was accessed via a link on the official website. It was in essence the same forum - onlt the word Unofficial had been added to the web pages.

I didn't see the comments that have lead to the withdrawal of the forum. However, there have been all sorts of allegations made recently against employees of the club, and board members. I reckon that the recent thread making allegations about the physio was enough to trigger legal action.
I guarantee you that if the club had not taken this action, and a court case had resulted, you would be one of the first to criticise the Board for not taking the correct action. No matter what the club did - you would be critical of the outcome.
